I mean, is it really that good? I've been thinking about it as I have a lot of long plane journeys coming up, but don't really know if it is worth it. I enjoy realistic racing games - are there many good ones on PSP?
Thanks for any replies.

i like the psp for many reasons, gaming being the smallest. It got a few good games eg killzone liberation, but as far as racing games go I duno.
is there any point buying a psp? YES if you like gadgets, as far as i'm concerned its the best gadget out there 2day. video player, mp3 player, photos, camera , web browser , gps , internet radio , skype , rss reader, instant messanger, portable tv , remote play and who knows what a future update will add to this
You should definately get one. I just bought one 2 days ago and I'm amazed. I had a DS before and although it was OK to start with, the PSP is sooooooo much better. I highly recommend one, if not only for games, but for movies, music, Skype, Internet, and whatever else you want to do with it.

I bought a slim PSP in April, and I have no regrets. I first owned the original back in 2005 and sold it due to lack of games, and it having a "stuck" pixel. The one I have now (Ice-Silver -- bought Daxter entertainment pack) is great. In addition to some of the games I missed out on after selling my PSP, and those I want to get back, there are quite a few games coming out or fairly new I want to get. Among them, Crisis Core (which I may pick up today if it's in stock) and Chains of Olympus. I downloaded a demo for CoO, and I am just blown away by the amazing transition from PS2 to PSP. Games like this make me feel that it would be a tragedy if the PSP goes under, because as much as I love my DS, and as unique as some of the games have been, the PSP is an incredible system as far as portables go. It can produce graphics unlike any I've ever seen in a portable prior to this.
I know the time will come when the PSP is outshined by a new handheld in the power department, but for now, the PSP is as good as it gets. I already have 9 games (although one came with the system) and by the end of the day, I could have a total of 12 if all works out (Crisis Core being in stock, Dracula X comes in the mail, and I decide to buy and downloadv TM:H-O from the Playstation Store).
So, I'd say there's still some good reasons to buy a PSP, and maybe with some of what Sony's been doing, the system will continue to stay afloat for a while longer.
of course many games already released, good ones coming out... extra multimedia features..
But if you can wait, i suggest let E3 come, maybe there will be further announcments of new games which you might be interested in and then decide whether to get one..
Had mine since last December and i couldnt be happier with my choice..
There are some decent games (and a huge list of really bad games), but the great games make it worth buying. the music and video option is nice to have but if you have an ipod theres no point in using these options on the psp. The online is nice but you cant use it everywhere (i.e. bus, metro where I always use my psp).
Of course you dont need psp but its a nice gaming device if you have money to spend

Flatout head on is sorta realistic with tons of damage modeling (kinda like burnout but sorta different)
also there is Toca Race driving. I have a demo of TOCA3 and its pretty sweet, sorta like Forza, but i havent seen the game in stores. also i highly recommend Wipeout Pure (download for $10.99 on playstation store) OR Wipeout Pulse (new $29.99). Burnout Legends is supposed to be good, but i havent played it yet.

Actually, Wipeout Pulse is only $20 at places like Walmart and Best Buy. I also think, just even from the demo, it's a better game than Pure. Though, maybe it's because Pure has been frustrating the **** out of me! In the demo for Pulse, I noticed in the custom race mode, you can select weapons on or off. Also, I know Pulse has custom soundtracks. Nice touch. Though, it wouldn't be worth it if it's as much a pain in the ass to play custom sdtks as it is in Liberty City Stories. Just seems like too much work.
I really like the PSP. It's evolved quite a bit since the last time I had one back in Summer 2005. Since March 2006, I had just a DS, and it is a great system. I've put quite a bit of time into many DS games, so one could say I am quite the DS fan. Yet, I do love the PSP. So many great games. Hopefully, there will be more to come. I wish Sony and 3rd part devs/pubs would realize if a system has top-notch games, people will buy it. The extra media functions are great, but they seem to be more of a "wow, I can do this stuff, too" type thing. After buying my first 13 games, I only bought my first UMD movie this weekend. (One of my all-time favorite movies; Snatch.) Sadly, I noticed the UMD movie scene is about dead. Best Buy was where I got Snatch, and they're the only ones I've seen who still cary UMD movies.
I still think Midnight Club : Dub Edition, is one of the best racers to date for a tuner fan. It sure as hell beats NFS:Carbon for 360...But Grids out today so we shall see.
Portable versions of Puzzle Quest/Crisis Core/God of War/GTA...If that's not enough I dunno what is. Had mine since launch and I still love it.
If any of these titles interest you go for it. Note, these aren't even all of them.Lionheart08
I absolutely love that mosaic! I had to download it!

Dude that is AMAZING! And I think if you are looking for a handheld PSP is by far the best choice, it has everything as many guys in the thread have already said. I've owned mine since launch and still love it.
First, I want to state ahead of time that I am not trying to make this a PSP vs. DS thread by any means, but since Roman_Irishman commented on PSP being the best handheld, it brought to my mind a beef I've had, and I need to get this out.
Alright, GRID has come out. It looks like an awesome game. It was put out by the same masterminds of the Race Driver series, which is my absolute favorite sim racing franchise over both Forza and Gran Turismo. What I don't understand is why GRID is being released for the under-powered analog-less DS and yet, not for the PSP. Yeah, the PSP's analog nub is not the best, and is only moderately better than the analog sticks from the original Playstation, but it's still better than the straight D-buttons of the DS. So, why is GRID being released on the DS, but not the PSP??? The PSP is far better for racing games than the DS. The DS is better suited for FPS's and RPG's as well as some point-and-click-style adventure and strategy games previously only suited for the PC's mouse.
Come on!!! I want GRID on my PSP!!! :o

I made it in response to people saying there weren't any games worth playing on the PSP. Even though some of the titles an be found on the PS2, they tend to end up being crappy ports anyway. :P
Yes There is still a point to buying a PSP. I had the Original Black PSP but I sold it. I recently picked up PSP Slimline or Slim and light. I actually missed PSP. Had 20 games for it played 8 of them regularly. I couldn't beleive I missed PSP enough to buy another. Try it you will like it. These days it is way cheaper.
if the only games your gonna play are realistic racers you shouldn't get one. But there are plenty of other good racers and sports games are all great on the psp.
