First about the fans Im wondering a thing. When I start the Ps3 the fans/fan(?) sounds ZOOOOM then they go completly silent so you cant hear it at all so lets call that noice level 0. After that it takes like 10+ minutes for it to go to noise level 1 and thats fine because its not as loud as PS2 or even the Gamecube. When playing a game like Resistance for maybe after 15 or something minutes then the fans goes to level 2 and that sounds fine but I wouldnt want to watch a dvd when its on the fan noise level 2, too loud to enjoy a movie I think personally, Sometimes it goes as loud as even higher than 2 lets call that level 3, one time I was going trough the internet browser and the fan went from 1 to 3 in like one second, I was like "huh?" turned it off and restarted then it was normal.

The thing I wonder though is that arent the Ps3 fans/fan supposed to go back in noise level after a while, say if its on level 2 while playing I shut off the game and let it be in the dashboard, Its not going down in noise it just stays on that noise level. Is that normal behavior? or should it go back to level 1 or maybe even 0?

And a second thing, 2 times in 2 days the ps3 have just shut down by itself and every little red lights on the controller flashes like crazy, I cant press the little round button to start the console again so I have to go and press the start button on the console for it to go back as normal.

Its only these 2 things I wonder about, other than that the Ps3 is normal, except that is has froze once in internet browser and once when I first put in my Username when I was setting up the console first time after buying it. Hope you understand my bad english ^^

The PS3 shouldn't loud, it should be quite silent. I would either give Sony a call or take it back to where you brought it from and get a replacement.

Hm... I don't know. I sit about two to three yards away from my PS3, so I can't hear the fan. However, if I get closer, I can hear it. I think it's normal. Just don't sit so close to it.

I found that if the fans tend to come on to often is if a person stands the console up vertically. By doing this it get's rid of a lot more heat this way. The dome shape of the top of PS3 can hold some heat (actually if you notice the way the Playstation name is ingraved into the console it was ment to be standing vertically.

one thing that helps is put it on a open hardwood surface vertically. the open air keeps it from slowly reusing the same air, the hardwood is not much of an insulator and with it vertical it keeps the heat off it and has more open surface area to breath, so-to-speak

least it's not as loud as a jet engine (other console)

It sounds to me that you are close to your ps3, and that it doesn't have enough room in the back (where the most air is blown)

Sure you could have space above it but what about away from it, and the same thing reversed.

I dont understand if my PS3 was acting like yours I would be ringing Sony's phone off the hook....who cares if I have to wait in line, turn on speakerphone and do something else for awhile.

I mean you paid 600 bones for a system and obiviously it is malfunctioning, so instead of asking a bunch of ppl on a message board, CALL THE PEOPLE THAT MADE THE SYSTEM!!!

seriously

I think i have to do that tomorrow or so. today it froze like 3 times. 2 times playing motorstorm, 1 time when idle in the dashboard.
