I prefer to stick with name brands. Companies like this often disappear which leaves the warranty useless. If I was you try taking a look at Tiger Direct. Often they have pretty good deals.

Never heard of that brand before. Do some research on the brand if you decide to buy it. You never really know what you get with random brands.

Never heard of this brand - ever.

My advice to you is to go with a popular brand: Either Toshiba (my personal favorite) or Sony. Every television I've ever bought has been Toshiba.

You can find a 32" Toshiba in that price range but it won't be 1080p

This thing is a absolute beast! Try to get a refurbished one with warranty, its cheaper.

Even if that tv was from a well known brand, I wouldn't buy it. Its contrast ratio was 800:1, which is pathetic. I think your best option would be to go with the 32" sharp aquos 1080p lcd. It's on amazon right now for $1029 with free shipping. It is a sexy looking tv and I have heard nothing but good things about its performance.

The general consensus of everyone I've spoken to is that the best makers of LCD TVs are (in no particular order) Samsung, Sharp and Sony. After that, Toshiba and LG make some pretty good ones too.

Toshiba believe or not is actually right up there with sony in quality and performance. Most TV's from manufacturers injapan come from the same factory anyways like sony and samsung. I've researched big time about tv's ever since i got a ps3 and i have to say that Sony Toshiba and Sharp are very very good. the new Sharp 32" 1080p is actually my favorite right now, i saw it right next to the 32" sony and 32" samsung and the sony and sharp looked amazing while the samsung wasnt as bright with colors but still a good tv. I say save up for the sharp or wait a little longer and save up for the more expensive sony.

P.S--The sharp 32" 1080p has 10,000:1 contrast ratio and 6ms (destroys the sony and samsung specs).

If your getting anything less than 50" then don't worry about 1080p. You won't notice the difference. Also if your primary use for the tv is gaming then stay away from the lcds. Plasma or rear projection is the only way to go. I know you guys are going to talk about the sharps having a 4 millisecond refresh but that's still slow. Dlps have a 1 microsecond refresh. You can also get them at larger sizes and higher resolutions for less money. Why is it then if you go to any store they will tell you to get a Sonylcd? It's because Sony is paying them extra to sell those tvs. Sony paid for my tv and surround system because I sold alot of the XBRs. I'm not saying it is a bad tv, I'm saying you can get more for less that works better for gaming. Oh and the Sharp LCD is horrible.

First Akai is NOT a small brand. They just usually have made their name in the audio receiver market. They are a decent company - not top of the heap but not the bottom either. I think this is a GREAT price for a 1080p TV. What I would suggest is heading over to www.AVSforum.comand check out what other owners have to say about that model.

:)

Wuuut my brother got a 42" Sharp (1080p) for 1200$ at Sears.

Anyway on topic: of the unknown brands, Vizio and Westinghouse is suppose to have a good reputation. I've seen 42" Vizio's (1080p) for 1000-1200$. 37" Vizio costs around 750 at walmart afaik. 32" costs around 600 at various stores. The last two are 720p, though at that size it wouldn't have mattered if you had 1080p...

AKAI is a good brand, here in the Netherlands. It isn't a small company soyou don't have worry that the company disappear. AKAI makes good quality sound systems. But they"probably" make decent TVs.

For the price you people are talking about I got a 61" and it's less a better and smoother picture than all the ones you mentioned. Have fun paying too much for wal-mart junk.

I spotted that same brand "AKAI" but different size at my local Sams. They had the 42" 1080P sets for $799 on clearance. I stayed clear because the PC input only goes up to 1600x1200 resolution and not the full 1900x1080. I would stay clear especially what walmart is asking for.

Sure it would be 1080p, but it wouldn't be enjoyable if the contrast ratio, sound quality, picture processing, and color were not up to par with more trustable brands.
