MGS4 was great but not perfect IMO. I found the controls a bit awkward.

Depends on taste solely, IMO MGS4 is just about average :/ That said, there are tons of games I I think are better than MGS4 :/

MGS4 was 70% cutscene 30% gameplay. however, despite my disappointment with the single player, MGO is still the best game i played so far this gen.

i dont think there will ever be anything close story wise why? cuz these days is more and more about online online online, devs care more about multiplayer than the single player campaign look at COD for example, i have mw 1&2 for pc and never got on a multiplayer match, why? not only i dont like it for start but its filled with people with way too much time on their hands that will just destroy you before you can even blink MGS saga remake please :P

Wow.. all the MGS4 hate in this thread is astounding.. Did all you haters even play the other MGS games? if not then the magnitude of the story was probably lost on you... MGS4 was the single best gaming experience i've had so far this gen, and I buy every major release that comes out...

The day that a game comes out that I'll play the Single Player twice in a row back-to-back without even a break is the day a better game will have come out for me this gen.. and i don't think thats bloody likely gonna happen anytime soon...

Unless some devs step it up, or if Mr Kojima comes back with soemthing very interesting, MGS4 will remain on top this gen.

Everything was so much better in MGS3 than MGS4. I've played MGS3 about 12 times and love the game to death. MGS4 on the other hand, it was a struggle for me to play the game once.

Every MGS game is amazing. Ihave almost memorized the guard patterns in the first. It was my first video game. =D I beat MS2 about 20 times... MGS3 was about 12 times. And 12 for MGS4 as well.. They are always great games.. Only a Kojima game can top a kojima game..(AC!D and Ghost Babel don't count)

I mean it was a really good game and all and it was one of the best, if not THE best PS3 game when it was released a couple years ago, but I think it's just kind of dated now. Yeah it still looks nice and it's still just as fun, but the controls leave something to be desired. Especially after playing other games that have come out in the past several years. In my opinion I think there are already better games out now. Honestly there's so many that I'm not even going to bother listing them all...

It depends on taste. I don't consider it the best. LBP and Demons Souls are my favourites for this gen. LBP is very innovative, full of value, and I love the challenge of creating something that requires a few work arounds to get done. Demons Souls because it has amazing gameplay, the best RPG gameplay I've played, brilliant level design, and creative online elements. As far as shooters shifting towards multiplayer? I'm fine with that. Some shooters will focus on a story, which is fine when done well (although at least 20 hours and replayablity is required for me to consider purchasing), but Online is great fun. The trick is making the online complex, balanced, with a wealth of modes and a good progression system. MW2 dropped the ball on this in my opinion, as killstreaks, noobtubes, certain perks are overpowered. But, from what I've seen of some MLG variant stuff on Youtube, the game can be fun when played properly. Halo in my opinion is a great online FPS, due to both skill based gameplay (completely skill based, no KS or anything), a high health model (I think it's about double what it needs to be, but it means you don't get fluke kills) and insane matchmaking options. There are better FPSes gameplay wise, personally Killzone and Resistance, but they fail to match the depth of options for online.

MGS4 was great but it's by far the best. There will always be a better game and it doesn't have to score a 10 to be as good or better. That's just an opinion.

Although it does come down to personal taste, I honestly do not believe there is going to be a "better" game in terms of story combined with gameplay. Games now are all about instant gratification and the story is just there to give a reason to kill things. There are some great games, but in terms of matching the art, gameplay, story...there isn't anything that compares with MGS4 imo. People often overlook the ipod music selections, the ability to go stealth or rambo without feeling you are playing the game wrong, the unlocks, weapon choices, graphics, the easter eggs, total lack of glitches, challenge level, seemless cinimatic to gameplay, etc. etc. It truley is an amazing game that is still often talked about to this very day, despite being released over two years ago! I'll repeat that, two years later, we still talk about it and compare it to game today. That just goes to show how truley epic MGS4 is, and always will be.

This is just your opinion. MGS 4 was great for fans that have played the other games multiple times. Gameplay wise, the game was fun but there was way more watching then there was playing. Act 4 and and act 5 barely had any gameplay at all. When the game rewards you for finishing it in 2 hours or whatever, than that bugs me. There should be more gameplay than cutscenes. The character models and the graphics are probably the best but gameplay wise, it had faults. You have to be a fan of the series in order to say that game is perfection. I would rather play Uncharted, Ratchet and Clank, or something else overall. If you think MGS 4 is super great, then good for you, but to say that there is nothing that comes close to it's level is a bit arrogant. Uncharted and Ratchet might not be as great storywise, but they are equal to MGS 4 in their respective genres.

Every console progresses. More devs find different methods to push it further as the years go by.

MGS4 was the best...in 2008. I don't know why some people don't get this. But whatever:lol:

Everything was so much better in MGS3 than MGS4. I've played MGS3 about 12 times and love the game to death. MGS4 on the other hand, it was a struggle for me to play the game once.

Ugh...couldn't stand MGS3. Couldn't even finish it in my half dozen attempts. The jungle > cave > repeat progression is boring, having to go to my damn menu every 15 seconds to apply first aid/eat/switch camo was friggin' annoying, the bosses were so lame except for The End, he was cool. But a dude who shoots bees? Shoot > Dive > Jump up > shoot, done. What happened to the awesomeness of the bosses, when they were actually mystically cool? MGS1's were the best by far, followed by 4's, 2's, then 3's. The story was an absolute bore, I still to this day haven't been able to finish it.

At least MGS4 took care of the core of the problems: the camo. No more switching to a menu (seriously Konami, a menu dependent stealth/action game?) to change camo, it does it for me. Brilliant. The diverse locations were appreciated as well, and even though the following that dude around the city stopped the game cold for the entire sequence, the fact that we were wandering around a city was a cool change. The bosses were all interesting, adding the much missed dose of mysticism and insanity, as well as downright creepy. Being able to take a shooter approach was appreciated too, Snake could actually take more than a bullet or two. You can still sneak the entire way, but it's nice knowing you're not borderline useless if you're spotted, even in his old age.

Bah, I digress. I just hate MGS3.

Thread like this is only gonna bring out the haters and nitpickers, a game like this you have to look at the whole package and appreciate the depth of gameplay and it's quirkiness. Only Kojima can match his own style, he's a unique and eccentric designer in his own league. There have been other great games this gen, but it's hard to compare them. IMO it deserved the 10, even moreso than GTA 4.

To the OP,

I wouldn't even go that far about MGS4. For one, it's graphics are definitely not on par with UC2 or GoW3. UC2 has the best graphics in any game to date. You don't have to believe me, check out this quote I got from one of the developer's interviews about that game:

"Our characters they typically have eighty thousand polygons in you know, one character, like the main character. In total- what we try to push through to the graphics chip at one point two million triangles that we try to draw every frame. We do a lot using the cell processor."

If MGS4 boasts as many at once on screen, or higher (which it doesn't b/c I have those things in my head called eyes lol), I'll eat my own shirt! No, I'm not a fanboy of those games, to me they were rentals so I didn't bother. I only get the really long games that most people don't have the patience for. I'm still playing DA:O lol.

My point is, maybe you should be asking if they're making any more 3rd person shooter action/rpg/stealth-espionage games with bad acting... It's different strokes for different folks out here, and while I wouldn't mind playing some MGS4 right about now, I'm nowhere near fanboy status. I won't dare to compare MGS4 to other games with, what I feel, are better gameplay mechanics and better graphics. I will do that if they are in the same genre though lol. I think the problem is there just isn't enough stealth-espionage games out there for PS3. For now MGS4 is the leader in it's tiny little club for PS3. I will say, nothing so far beats it's length and depth of rpg-ish elements.

To answer your question though... Yes I believe that this gen will blow MGS4 out of the water. Take your pick, all those juicy 3d/move games or online rpg's (FINALLY!!!) coming to PS3. My money would be on Crysis2's engine as far as graphics go this generation, but I lost faith with port-overs. None of those clowns ever try to use the cell-processor, so their games run like crap on PS3. I would keep my eye on the exclusive titles coming out though.More than a few PS3 exclusive games push the graphics bar up.

As far as gameplay goes, my money is most definately on Sorcery. Flame me if you want for it, but I have a crush on games that are intuitive and funny at the same time.

I realize this is all about personal preferance, so everything I have to say is all opinion, of course, but there are some really good points I'd like to make about MGS4.

Graphic wise, camo's morph in real time or you can use skins. Cinimatics and gameplay are interchangable without notice. Many games this gen STILL don't do this. Even UC2, with its amazing graphics, doesn't accomplish this.

Story wise, what sequel has pulled together its previous stories throughout the game so well? Most start with what was left off and thats the end of it. MGS4 does this while you play and its not the 2nd squel, its the 4th. Games that go that far are usually dead in the plot department. MGS4 goes strong.

Gameplay wise, people say you watch more than you play...but its the amount that you CAN do that seperates it. For example, you could melee the entire game in UC2, but it would feel like "you are doing it wrong". MGS4 lets you play how you want to, and every way feels right.

Sound wise, you get to select from a huge library of soundtracks...barley any games (let alone good games) let you choose what you want to hear. Dialog, sound effects, etc. set the bar for the games of this gen, that many have yet to reach.

All of these things still make MGS4 top dawg imo. A lot of games choose 1-2 things to be great at. MGS4 did them all so well, we STILL talk about it. Name any PS3 game that old that can say the same. Name any 2 yr old game that gets compared on any console like MGS4 does. /fanboy

Meh. MGS4 is extremely average. Beat it once then sold it, and i rarely ever do that with games.

And no, i hadn't played the previous games in the series. Don't really want to go back and play them, either. Only reason i got MGS4 is because people wouldn't shut up about "how amazing it was" when it came out.

I didn't really like MGS because it was average, but the game is meant to be played by people who have played the others. The game is extremely mediocre if you haven't played the others. Even if you have, I still think it's an alright game.

MGS4 was the complete package for me and though some games excel in similar areas like graphics and gameplay or even come close to MGS4 awesomeness but no game has actually beat MGS4 as far as Im concerned. It is still my favourite game this gen but that's not to say titles like Uncharted 2, Demon's Souls and God of War 3 are not worth it, they are still top quality epic experiences just not quite at the level of MGS4. But with so many quality titles releasing MGS4 may not hold that spot for long, considering GT5, Vanquish, The Last Guardian... :o
