Tonight while playing MAG, my original launch 60gb ps3 suddenly shut down and got the red blinking light. I tried replacing the hdd and checked the cables, but it still does the same. So, Im assuming the only thing to do is call sony and dish out $150 to get it fixed. For those of you who have had this problem or had to send in ur ps3 to sony, how long does it take? I read some where that it can possibly take 2-6 weeks, I can't wait that long.

A. call sony and pay 150 bucks to get it fix within 2 weeks.

B. get a slim ps3

C. find a place where they still sell fat ps3s, buy it, and put the broken one in and return it. if they check your serial number then just say it was a gift.

Id say just sell it as long as they know its broken because people will fix it themselves....and probably sell it for profit but afterwards put it towards a slim

Yeah. Don't do that.

Instead of committing Fraud. Either just buy a slim. Or fork over the $150 for the repair. Or you could do both (to either resell the 2nd one legitimately, or to have a 2nd PS3).

I would personally just buy a slim. I never trust repairs. If somethign ELSE breaks, or it breaks again, you will be out another $150 which could have just gotten you a slim.

they changed the mother board for sure
cause not all my old gamesaves work

maybe its louder cause they realized that they have a overheating problem and therefore crank up the fan?

Thats exactly what happened to mine. I was hooked on mag too, a lot of people said to just go and buy a slim. But I don't know if i can give up on my launch 60gb just like that. If this problem occurrs after my 90 day warranty, than I'll buy a slim.

It happened to me last night while playing Dragon Age. I've had my 60Gig since launch and I've never cleaned it or vacuumed it out. i guess its about time. I am going to attempt the repair and if that fails retire from gaming for a little while.

This happened to me this past thursday. Instead of sending it to Sony (For the second time. This happened to me last year) i tried the YLOD fix on youtube and it worked. Only spent about $30 in the materials needed to fix it. Everything's been working fine with it so far. *Fingers Crossed* :D

It's all good, I have been getting mixed replies here and there on many sites. I know some people who have had their ps3 repaired and it's been runnning flawlessly ever since. Sony also gives you a 90 day warranty after you get your system repaired. Lets see how it goes. If this crap happens again after 3 months then I'll definately pick up a slim.

I'm under a 3 month warranty myself. I'll be pushing this PS3 to bitter death until these three months are over. If this is another crap console, it'll die before the warranty goes up. /Theory

It's only my experience : my 60Gb died some months ago, it went to speed 3 of the fan immediately when I did folding or read a Blu-ray, the refurb goes to speed 2 after 30 minutes of folding or Blu-ray, it seems to confirm what a guy from Sony said to me (they put in the newer components) when I phoned before sending it.

yeah, my refurbished 60 gb from SONY just YLOD'd Yesterday.

I refuse to send it to SONY again. I was ripped off! I payed $150 for a crappy loud refurbished unit, and to lose my data! I found a guy in San Francisco (where I live)who will fix it for $70 and I get to keep my files.

The loud sound meant it sucked!

AfgZeroVirus

My sons 60GB did exactly the same 2 weeks ago,i heard it was £131 for a straight swop refurb. which they exchange on your doorstep-they deliver the refurb and take away your broken 60GB,usually within about 3 days of you calling Sony.Trouble is-you only get 3 months warranty with the refurb,so we sold our broken 60GB,and now my son has new 80GB Fat PS3 with a full 12 months warranty.

I have heard from people confidently saying that once outside your warrenty you can just open up your ps3 and apply a new layer of heatsinc and totally head off the problem before it happens. (make sure to clean the inside while your at it of dust.) And only outside of warranty no point otherwise.

Its what ive read and it seems to completely renew the ps3 if you head it off early enough. Heatsinc will run you about 10 bucks. so its probably a worthwhile investment to do it yourself or have someone who knows what they are doing do it for you.
