I've been pretty hard on the PS3 so far, but...

...I just wanted to say that all the news that's been coming out has got me really pumped about the future of the PS3, really for the 1st time since it launched.  PSN Home and Big Little Planet look really great, and I just wanted to make sure that I put as much energy in hyping the positive aspects of the console as I have dissing it for it's shortcomings.

I am often called a Lemming 'round these parts for having compared the PS3 unfavorably to competing hardware/software, but I believe that voicing my opinion here is important because I believe Sony is patrolling the PS3 boards secretly, and the more they know about the changes people desire, the better.  (All those "We hate rumble" threads are really screwing PS3 owners, in my opinion.)  So for the 1st time since I bought it, I am optimistic about the PS3.  It looks like Sony has paid attention to people who where underwhelmed with their launch offerings and vocalized their concerns.  The future is looking bright.

We've all been saying give it some time, it's only been out for a few months.  The things they're exposing now didn't come about overnight.  These projects, especially in the form they've been shown, prove they've been working on things for quite some time.

Well, chalk it up to bad PR, then. I hope the wave of good news continues in regular intervals. I'm actually really excited about PSN, and it's a welcome change. I hope it keeps on coming.

Well, kudos on owning up to your past PITAness, and double kudos for having an open mind enough to see good from bad.  We need more of both to make the PS3 forums a better place.  Fending off speculative criticism is getting old.

Like I said, I think it's important for eveyone to voice their concerns for the greater good of the console, even if everyone isn't in agreement. There's a big difference in complaining with the hopes that the issues will be addressed, and complaining just to anger others and get some negative attention.

Well, their online offerings for PS2, lack of sixaxis rumble, high price point, and PS2 disc read errors all let me down, but to each his own...

all of this shows the dedication sony has to making the ps3 a better product. but there are still things they have to do to compromise. the price of the ps3 currently can't be any lower because of the cost to make it and if they introduced a price drop now, it would anger early owners. but they did look at ways of lowering the manufacturing cost, such as shrinking the dye size of Cell to 65nm, removing the EE chip (this is an example of the compromise i was talking about). this will, unfortunately, cut down the compatibility, but you can rest assured sony will keep the compatibility % high for the ps2/ps1 games. lack of rumble - well, they originally thought it would be ok without it, but since a lot of people (even ps fans) were complaining about the lack of rumble, sony finally ended litigation and started a new business agreement. PS2 DRE - the only people i've seen get DRE's are people with 4+ year old ps2's. thats pretty damn long imo. i had a launch ps2 that lasted me over 6 years and it was finally getting DRE's. i wouldn't call that a let down. but to each his own i guess. to me, ps systems have always been reliable, and the ps3 is no exception. i know its too early to tell, but imo, the ps3 is more reliable than its competition. there have been very few failures so far, and most people have little to no problems.

Well I'm not saying the sample is representative, but at least half of my friends went through at least 2 PS2s bc of this, and none of them have kids. And one friend went through 3, so... But it's all water under the bridge.

I absolutely agree with you but this forum gets inundated with criticism, more destructive than constructive, to the point where differentiating is impossible and dealing with either one becomes a headache.  I just wanna come in and read about the goings on, not hack my way through countless speculatory bashing threads made by people who don't even own the system.

Its funny, people have been on Sony's tail for a whole 3 months and been complaning and talking trash. Its funny how people are know like "omfg" look what they are now doing.  I don't understand how people can bash Sony for what they have been doing for years. They always start off solow and we seen how that turned out with the PS1 and  the PS2. People who bashed the system when it forst came out should stick by their weak guns and keep on so they realize how dumb they were for acting premature. Thats almost as bad as making fun of a newborn for not being able to wlak right after birth. As I said many times in the past, no system is great right out of the gate especially Sony. The future of gaming(as a whole) looks great and I hope each system makes improvements to make our gaming experience as great as it can.
Shame on those who doubted Sony.

really? my experiences and people i know have all been pretty lucky then. i still think, overall, the ps2 was a very reliable machine. i hope people can stay mature about this, but i have heard A LOT of people saying their 360's have failed shortly after their 1-year warranty expired. there was even a news story on this in the UK i believe, of the "ring of death" or something. i don't have any personal experience with the 360, so i'm only going by what i've heard.

I will also admit that I may have come off in the past as bashing PS3, which was never my intent, I was merely defending the other console from retarded statements, sometimes to the point of what may have seemed as bashing PS3. I also for the first time see a glimmer of light that may keep me from regretting my $600.00 dust collector. That & my anxious anticipation of Motorstorm. I hope neither let me down. Although I admit this home ide seems cool, I never cared for the sims, so I hope it's features keep me interested other than just having characters get together in a room. For many of you who may start to make comments that i'm finally starting to see the light, don't get ahead of yourelves, I simply said I may no longer regret my PS3 purchase as I think there are some cool things coming, however, I still prefer the 360 far more than the PS3 & even though this new addition to PS3 is cool, it won't be enough to sway me. And before the threads get started saying how this will get the microsoft fans scared & we will see that PS3 is the greatest, just forget, microsoft fans don't care & eventually MS will come up with something new as well that Sony doesn't have. Just don't, it's comments like those that get people in here making the comments you don't wanna here, so jsut think before you type. It's a cool idea, but it won't sink 360. As I said before, not here to bash PS3, more to defend 360. That being said, does anybody know when the big updat is coming yet, getting bored waiting on it.

I don't know why they can't all be good consoles. Everyone is ususally so defensive, and tend to identify themselves as extensions their favored videogame hardware.

I don't understand why people always have 2 bring up tryhing to sink the other console or vice versa. This is about giving people a better gaming experience. I'm tired of people always trying to bring it up. Will this kill this system, or will this kill that system. The fact of the matter is the gaming world is big enough for all three and more and each system gives a different gaming experience(this is why I have them all). People forget to realize its all about trying to give the best gaming experience within each console, and every time anther console brings out something new someone always try and underplay it or make it like its a shot at another console. This is whats wrong with gaming. People pick consoles over gaming itself and its kind of sad. People bashed the PS3 when its only been out for a few months. The same thing was done to the 360. As a gamer I want every system to do well which means more gaming across the board. Too bad most gamers don't see it that way. PSN:Meeks32 Gamers Game......Fanboys Pick Sides......
