I got mine a few months ago at GameStop... so there is NO chance of a store return with those guys. Oh well, like I said, I dont' play it that much, so I shouldn't miss it too bad if it's quick enough. **crosses fingers**I've had one 360 fail (launch console) and my first PS3 failed as well. Luckily my PS3 was DOA so I just exchanged it at the store.
Sorry to hear about your bad luck.

First try turning off your PS3 , then turn it on and hold the 'on' button untill PS3 beeps ...Thanks for the help... I'm sure I've tried all of that. I did the following things, all in an attempt to get it to work: 1.) Cycled the power switch in back. 2.) Turned it on via controller and also via control panel. 3.) Unplugged ALL the cables at both ends and plugged them all back in. 4.) Tried HDMI as well as standard, but never had them hooked up at the same time. 5.) Tried all of this on two different TV's. ...I think that's it... However... I just thought of something... In my settins, I set it up for HDMI of course. So if my HDMI cable is bad (for some strange reason) then will I even get a picture from a standard cable? Meaning, would it "detect" that it was standard, so I could use it in a pinch. I guess what I'm trying to say is, about the only thing I didn't try was a new HDMI cable?
This might fix your problem ... since your PS3 is acually working but your TV isn't recieving a picture which could be because your PS3 is sending out a HD signal through the standard cables and not your HDMi cable ( and the standard cables can't send the HD signal hence why your TV isn't recieving it) ...
If that fails to work then call up SONY and the process is simaliar to Microsoft's i believe ... i can't help on the shipping it to SONY side though since i have never had to do this ...

My TV is 720p and 1080i only... and I have been using it on that TV since I got it a couple months ago, so I know everything works wtih that TV. I usually use it at 720p becuase 1.) I like progressive scan better, and 2.) 1080i makes some of the fonts too small. (off topic a bit, but thought I'd share)Also are the HDMI inputs on the TV's you're using HDCP compliant? If not you won't get any picture at 1080p.
Just a thought - I realizeyou may not be using 1080p though.

don't know how you tried on the tellie, but sometimes my hdmi gets wack and i have to pull the power chord to the tv. unplug the hdmi cable and then put the power back in and after that insert the hdmi again to get picture. though i have a quite cheap and dull lcd-tv atm.
hope you get it to work again.
Actually, that's one scenario I haven't tried... as I haven't unplugged the TV at all. I will go try that now, and thanks for sharing, as it appears I didn't think of everything!don't know how you tried on the tellie, but sometimes my hdmi gets wack and i have to pull the power chord to the tv. unplug the hdmi cable and then put the power back in and after that insert the hdmi again to get picture. though i have a quite cheap and dull lcd-tv atm.

I'm never that lucky... the unplug TV then HDMI then back in didn't work either... but thanks anyway.remaGloohcSdlO
YOUR PS3 is NOT broken.
Put your PS3 in standby by flipping the switch on in the back of the PS3.
Press and Hold the power button in the PS3, NOT THE BUTTON IN THE CONTROLLER, until you hear a beep.
Make sure that you are using your preferred cable, HDMI, when you are doing this.
TIP: READ the F-N MANUAL!

Thanks... I think... but this only works for standard cable, as that will "reset" everything to standard video mode. While it did work to get my picture back, that never should have left, it still doesn't work with HDMI. I didn't see the part in the manual that said "In case your PS3 decides to suddenly STOP working via HDMI, try this".[QUOTE="choasgod"]First try turning off your PS3 , then turn it on and hold the 'on' button untill PS3 beeps ...Thanks for the help... If all you've got is a lack of picture problem, then you can call them and they will help you with it. I know i had some problems with hdmi and picture, i called the support line and they were able to help. Give it a try because i really don't think it's dead if that's it's only problem. If you do have to send it in, i hear that they just send someone to your house to pick it up and they give you a new ps3 on the spot or something like that, but try the support line.

First I go through 2 different 360's... **crosses fingers that my third one keeps chugging along** and now, the unthinkable has happened... My PS3 is D. E. A. D. I need some information from ANYONE who has had problems and needed to send theirs in. First, has anyone had my specific problem... It will turn on, fans start up, and you can hear the menu sounds, as well as the soundtracks that play over the demo thumbnails... but NO picture. I have it hooked up with HDMI, so I checked it, and it was fine. I actually went through the trouble of hooking it to two different TV's wtih HDMI, and even the standard cable it came with... all the same results. No picture at all. I don't play it very much, but this is the first problem I have had. Now then... Do you call Sony and get them to send a box like MS does... or is the process much different? How long does it usually take, and will I lose all my HD info since it's not detachable? Are ALL the shipping costs covered, like MS does... or do I have to pay to send it to them? ANY help would be greatly appreciated!!!! I'm looking for early help on here, as I guess I'll call them tomorrow for all the details, but I kinda wanted to know what I was in for. Thanks!remaGloohcSdlOI literaly brought A PS3 yesterday and I'm sending it in for repairs.(It won't eject the PS2 disc I inserted in it.) I functions normally but it won't eject, (even though I held down the ejectbotton ) So the tech I talked to placed a replacement order on it just Like the 360'.so next week I should be PS3ing.

Also in a short time after you get your replacement you will most likely get your disc in the mail after they get it out of the disc drive at the Sony repair center (because they have time to spend in detail when a broken unitcomes in).
Plug in the composite cables that come with it (yellow, red/white), set your TV to that input, then turn on your PS3 by holding the power button for a long time. It should beep and reset to basic output. If the video output somehow isn't set to what your TV supports or a different connection then you have to reset it.
It really must be something wrong with your setup because just losing video output doesn't seem possible.
Sounds like something about your setting wasnt set up right....... have you tried to set it back to default settings? maybe that's all it is. set to default and start all over just like you first bought your PS3. see if it works?DogswithgunsNope I'm just going to send it back, and get a new replacement. But I'll keep that in mind when I get my new one.
I tried every technique already, but I'm going to send it in. Plus sony tech support has determined that I have a defective PS3.Plug in the composite cables that come with it (yellow, red/white), set your TV to that input, then turn on your PS3 by holding the power button for a long time.
