The whole reason I bought a PS3 was for JRPG's as well. There aren't many now but I'm looking forward to White Knight Story, Final Fantasy XIII, and I think there are a few others that look promising.

I read an extensive preview on it and it looks pretty amazing.
None worthwhile IMO. Folklore is a hybrid action JRPG. But I don't the RPG elements are all there. It's more action IMO.
PS3 so far have enchanted arms. FF13 is way far. I assuming 2009 in Japan, and 2010 in the states. I personally think their waiting until the PS3 numbers in Japan pick up before putting out the game. Wii's and mobile gaming are dominanting the whole market these days.
I think its mainly a matter of expensive development costs and expectations of incredible graphics. most jrpgs for the ps2 featured sprites (you know the sorta gameboy like pixel stuff) which would not be recieved well on the ps3. I think now since blu ray has won and PS3 sales will skyrocket more developers will open the doors for PS3 jrpgs, until then portable platforms are gonna be the home of JRPGscosmo0071
I'd say you were correct if the 360 was using HD-DVD's as its game format. But it isn't. Blu-Ray winning will actually have very little effect on console sales. Most people who were waiting for a Blu-Ray player will go for the stand-alone. Some will buy the PS3 of course, but more won't.
I think the problem is they take too long to develop. PSone was popping out RPGs like nothing (Square soft was coming out with 2-3 a year, and that's JUST squaresoft.). PS2 I think slowed down (but still produced a lot). This gen we have hit almost hit a brick wall. Lost Odyssey on the 360, White Knight and FFXIII on Ps3. Then it will take another 2-4 years for another good one at least. Sheeshf50p90
Ya thats what i was saying, the expectations of this generation are WAY too high, and that equals way high development costs and lots of time and energy

Can't forget Blue Dragon (I still can't believe the review that one got here) Eternal Sonata, Enchanted Arms (meh, pretty good but not GREAT) and all the JRPG's that are coming to the 360 this year and next.
JRPG's are slower than usual, but they are still coming. What you are seeing is that they are more spread out. The PS3 isn't getting every single one like the PS2 did. That's why it seems so slow.
Believe it or not, there are actually more (better) JRPG titles on the PS3 than any other console when you really think of it. Yes, the 360 has Infinite Undiscovery, Star Ocean 4, Last Remnant.. but they aren't all that good. PS3 is actually going to be getting Last Remnant and Tales of Vesperia (with improvements, unless its already out :P), we also have Eternal Sonata, Valkeryia Chronicles, and Demon's Souls. In the future, we'll be seeing titles like Final Fantasy XIII and Versus XIII, Final Fantasy XIV too. Bah! There are just so many, and you can sure as hell bet that other producers will be making more JRPG gems for this grand ol' system. I highly suggest the PS3, it is truly remarkable and has great variety. :D
I was reading this thread, and finding myself baffled that no one had mentioned Valkyria Chronicles or Demon's Souls... And then I saw the date. Rubbish. Apart from the almighty brilliant action JRPG that is Demon's souls there are plenty of role playing games on the ps3 now and in the near future, Eternal sonatra,Disgea 3,Sacred2, Cross edge, with White knight, Final fantasy 13 in MARCH as well as Versus 13, Resonance of Fate,Star ocean 4 how many do you want?JustWiicredibleThis thread was from February of last year.
white knight chronicles (u.s. release), star ocean: the last hope international, tales of vesperia (u.s. release), final fantasy xiii are on the horizon. two of the three are ports, yes; but they're going to be jam packed with additional content. i wouldn't lose hope because now that the playing field is level it's a matter time before history repeats itself.
Tales Of Vesperia is not comfirmed at all and furthermore given Namco's track record with ports, it won't be released stateside. That whole voice actor rumor should be taken as such until an official confirmation is announced.white knight chronicles (u.s. release), star ocean: the last hope international, tales of vesperia (u.s. release), final fantasy xiii are on the horizon. two of the three are ports, yes; but they're going to be jam packed with additional content. i wouldn't lose hope because now that the playing field is level it's a matter time before history repeats itself.
