I don't know if this got posted 5045435908908 times, but of it did, here's 5045435908909.

When I look on eBay at PS3s, I keep on seeing people seeling the Japanese version saying it's a lot better than the US version. Is it true? Here's an example of what I see on eBay descriptions:

You are bidding on a BRAND NEW 60GB Japanese Playstation 3. This unit is rgion free meaning it can play both American and Japanese Blu-Ray games and movies. This unit is made in Japan not in China like the U.S version. With this PS3 you'll be able to connect to Japanese marketplace and download contents that are not available in U.S! You'll be able to play in both U.S and Japanese servers. All the menus and texts are English.
I will include my own brand new copy of Talladega Nights Blu-Ray movie as a bonus IF bidding reaches. This Playstation 3 was purhased for $750 + shipping straight from Japan.

Is this all true?

No, and only the first batch of PS3s where made in japan, the rest in china. And you can do all of that with the US PS3.

There is no real difference between a US & JP PS3 except for DVD region. The JP PS3 will still be only region 2, so cannot play US DVDs (Region 1). However for Blu-ray movies and games, there is no difference. There is a slight difference in price however. I am not sure about Japan but in Taiwan the PS3 60 Gig model is cheaper then buying it in the US. Out the door price of a few shops I visited in Taiwan was around $531 while in US its $600 + tax.

The major difference is backwards compatibility. (The console only plays region 2 DVDs.)

As for me, I chose to buy the Japanese version. Cuz I can read quite a bit of Japanese, so I don't want to miss any good PS2 title that was released only in Japanese. :D

There are some games that are released only in Japan but *most* of the time it's for a good reason.

You'd only want the Japanese version if you want to play Japanese PS2 and PS1 games.

60gb? No it is not. It did not have the EE chip and had the same limited/flawed PS2 B/C that the US 80gb had.
