Games work perfectly fine, but UMD movies are region locked, meaning you can only watch japanese movies on your PSP. I have a japanese PSP (metalic blue8))and all of my games are from the states. They even work fine online. However, my setup is: Japanese PSP,Japanese internet connection. I don't know what will happen if you have a Japanese PSP and an Amerivan internet connection.

Yeah, and also remember that the X-O detection on Japanese PSP's will be reversed in the XMB-Web Browser. If you don't know what im talking about think of Metal Gear Solid.
Got my JP PSP ages ago and live in the UK. Games work fine, UMD's should as we're the same region here as JP but tbh I can't be bothered with them, and net connections are not a problem. The unit updates itself from JP fine.
okim prob quoteing most people that posted, i didnt read them, but games will work umd movies wont, and the screen is much better, its sharper compared to the samsung 1s, basicaly for the slight screen improvement , u loose umd movies, i think you can buy some action replay to get round that, not sure tho, i use dark side
