jap/asian ps3 controller work on a AU ps3?

ok ive searched on the net and on here (even tho i cant get the forum search to work the way i want it to)

 any one no the answer to my question? cus im gonna be buying some games off playasia and thought i might as well get a controller whilst i was at it since they are like 10$ cheaper
