Like many others on this board I seem to be having trouble deciding between FFT and Jeanne D'Arc. I had a couple of questions about the two I thought may help me and possibly some others with their decisions.

FYI- I'm new to this genre of game so I'm not sure if these questions will be noobish or not.

1. When you buy/obtain items in either game are you able to see them on your character. If I get a new piece of armor does it show?

2. How many hours is the main storyline for each game. I know that FFT has only been out for a day but I didn't know if anyone had heard anything about this.

3. How many classes are there in each game?

4. Which game has faster moving gameplay? I know these are slow paced games but is one easier/quicker than the other?

5. Which game has better graphics, cinematics, spell animations?

Any thoughts or advice you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your help!

1) No for both, except for weapons

2)FFT is much longer

3)FFT has several no alot of classes Jeanne does not let you choose classes or wat weapons you can use, only the skills you want

4)Jeanne D arc is alot easier(only cus FFT is very hard) and jeanne is alot faster paced as well

5)I would Say FFT because besides the magic spells in Jeanne they all look very similar and lame where as in tactics everything is unique and looks great

If you have never played FFT and enjoy great stoy lines for more mature gamers and a way more in debth cosumization get FFT

if you like easy gameplay alot less costumization and a childish stoyline get Jeane D arc

But I HIGHLY reccomend FFT to anyone who likes RPG's period Jeanne gets very boring due to weak story and lack of costumization

I hope this helps!!

Great, that was very informative. Thanks for replying. I think I'm leaning towards FFT a little more now.

Over all I say go for FFT;

SEMI SPOILERISH KINDA:

only downside i've stumbled upon(through reading) is the fact that they kept the final boss from the original game, whom is far to easy.

Based on the recommendations I've gotten, I've decided to get FFT, mainly because A) It has truly stood the test of time... 10 years later and the PS1 board of this game is still very active, let alone the PSP board for this game, and B) FFT has a ton more replayability then Jeanne d'Arc which matters a lot to me.

If you're new to the SRPG I still think FFT is the best game because you'll have a ton of room to get better. Sure, the game is very hard, but you'll appreciate it more because of it. If you cannot stand hard games though, then get Jeanne d'Arc.

Final Fantasy Tactics is a lot more robust, but Jeanne D'Arc is gem in itself as well.

You definitely have a lot more options with FFT, but Jeanne D'Arc is a freaking blast, and it's a shame if you don't play through it, so I'd say hell get both, but if you're only after one right now and want a longer and more customizable experience, go with FFT.

keep in mind the thread-maker is new to the genre as he/she mentioned in the first post. do you really think it's a good idea to recommend a complex game to a person who's "testing the water"?

if you're saying that Jeanne D' Arc is easier, you might as well recommend that instead.

that being said, i'd get JD'A if not for the gameplay itself, then just to see if you even like the genre at all. then when you become more experienced with tactic's based games go ahead with FFT.

Now I'm more confused then ever! j/k I really appreciate all of the comments. I should have mentioned that I recently rented Dungeons and Dragons Tactics and absolutely hated it! Of course that was mostly due to the crap graphics, dark environments, horrible interface, and ridiculous camera. I really like the idea of these types of games and this was a big let down. i'm hoping one of these games will help me forget about that experice. Also, I noticed that JDA is $10 cheaper than FFT. It's not a huge savings but it kind of makes me lean towards JDA a little bit too.

If your just ' testing the waters ' on these kind of games, you shold play through Jenna D'Arc first, and see if you like it or not, and see if you really enjoy these types of games. Then after that purchase FFT. =\

Why not start with FFT? My first Strategy RPG was FFTA it's pretty easy then I played Disgaea. I dont think difficulty should be a problem for someone who's an avid gamer. Once you learn how to play it becomes natural. You might want to get the strategy guide too.

a freind recomended jeanne...I bought it 2 weeks ago...I played throught 3 chapters...stoped playing cause I was going to a (different) freinds house for a sleep over and we only played MHF2...the I got in to that for oh ...unil suday onwich I bought the wracraft battle chest...love that game!!

...still play MHF2...alot lol

...I never played FFT...I played FFTA...it was fun but...a little too much level grinding...

so I might buy FFT for PSp in oh maybe a week...honstly this is what I recomend...

step 1) go to gamestop/EB games, buy FFT for PS1...then maybe buy jeanne but FFT for PSP is other than cutscenes and slightly less "edgy" graphics the same game!!

...or just get it for PSP

One thing you might want to think about is this. FFT is very hard and your not sure if you like the Genre yet. You could be Jeanne easier and if like it buy Tactics after it. that way it's a step up to a better game rather then buying Jeanne and it being a massive disappointment after FFT.

Heck I would still go with FFT. If you like the tactics type of RPG, there are not too many better then FFT. I am skipping Jeanne.

Like many others on this board I seem to be having trouble deciding between FFT and Jeanne D'Arc. I had a couple of questions about the two I thought may help me and possibly some others with their decisions.

FYI- I'm new to this genre of game so I'm not sure if these questions will be noobish or not.

1. In FFT you seea quick flash of your weaponwhen you attack, in Jeanne, you see them carry their weapons and use them.

2. About 30 for Jeanne, twice that for FFT. There'sA LOT of grinding in FFT. Abilities take a long time to learn and getting your soldier all the abilities you want for him can take many MANY hours. In Jeanne there are skill stones that you can equip once you meet the level requirement.

3. A bunch in FFT.There are six types of weaponsin Jeanne (spear, sword, axe, bow, staff, whip) that are basically "classes".

4. Battles in Jeanne are much faster than FFT cause of the turn limits and transformations.

5. Jeanne has better graphics. FFT probably has better spells. I haven't seen the cut scenes in FFT, but the ones in Jeanne are great.

FFT is really difficult and you'll have to be really careful with how you attack early on because your party will be so weak (no abilities). Jeanne will give you all the tools you need to succeed from the beginning. You can survey the map, see what enemies you're dealing with, and equip your party accordingly. You can save right before and during battle which also helps. In FFT you'll have to rely on your memory when in comes to terrain and enemy types.

Jeanne is a damn good game that brought a lot of great new ideas to srpgs, but it doesn't have a whole lot of replay value. Once you hit level 50 you'll be much stronger than most enemies and will find little motivation to keep powering them up.

FFT feels (and looks) kind of dated in comparison, but since you have so much control over how your party develops, you'll find yourself constantly thinking of new ideas that may (or may not) make your life easier. Enemies grow with your party so they'll constantly give you a stiff challenge.

I recommend both games, but FFT has the better storyandvalue.
