So I've been thinking lately about possibly selling my Xbox 360 as of late and trading it in for a Playstation 3. Among other reasons, it seems the PS3 has far better exclusive titles then the 360. Another factor being that not only is PS3 free online, but Microsoft has decided to even raise the cost of Live: http://majornelson.com/archive/2010/08/30/price-change-for-xbox-live-gold-subscription.aspx Anything I should know about the PS3 before buying it? I'm sure this question has been asked before, so if Gamespot has some kind of link to help a newbie getting acquainted with PS3 that would be useful too. For those who own both, which do you prefer and why? How does PS3 online compare to Live online? Again, sorry if these kinds of questions are asked all the time. Also, I was raised on the PS2 and it remains my favorite system of all time so I'm no stranger to Sony.

I think I can handle those losses if it saves me $60.

Xbox 360 Pro. I've got enough money anyhow and from what I hear this generation of consoles is expected to last to 2015 or so, so it's not like I'm buying the PS3 only to get the PS4 a year later. I also have a bunch of games that I could probably also make some money off of.

now a days most 360s arent worth much unless they atleast have a jasper chip... id list all your stuff on craigslist and ask over 300 and see if you get any takers.. but the used console market is a tough one.. ebay might be a good bet either, but i prefer to deal in person, personally.

i like em both... as far as exclusives i think the ps3 is better because the only exclusives left on 360 are halo reach, gears of war 3 and alan wake... and halo reach and gears of war 3 will probably be on PC eventually... i would recommend staying away from gamestop for selling your console... it is convenient but you will barely get any money back, ebay or craigslist would be much more profitable for you..

Good stuff. Thanks, I appreciate the help, hopefully I'll go back to being a Sony faithful in no time (provided I can convince my brother).

if you undecided on which sku ps3 to, mat i recommed that you get the 120gig ps3. take some of the 100$ you save and buy your own after market HDD. you can get 320gig drives for as little as 50$ online at newegg.com. if u have a HD Tv then be sure to pick up a HDMI cable but dont waste money on those high price ones like monster cable ect. get on online for 5 t0 10$ or just get a cheap one at wallmart ect. there is no def. be carefull when chooseing your psn name as you will be stuck with it so make it a good one. Keep the system clean, dust it often.just to ease your mind when you hear it be aware that the slim can and prob will make cracking or poping noises soon after you turn it on and for a short time after you turn it off. its just the plastic case expanding ect do to heat. nothing what so ever to worry about. all ps3 slims iv ever played on has done this. mine included. its very common and again nothing at all to woryy about. exclussive games you may want to pick up first or asap are uncharted 1 and 2,mgs4,god of war 3,grand turisomo 5p but you may want to just wait for the full gt5 game and little big planet. all are top notch games. the resistence games are IMHO a bit meh but you may enjoy them. also killzone 2 is great but the SP is pretty short much like with the CoDmw games. non exclussives i can recommend are batman AA,re5,deadspace,fallout 3.

I hope you get as much fun out of your ps3 as i have mine. good luck.

You know OP I was just like you. I gave away my 360 and bought a PS3 and I've never looked back since. I've found the PS3 to be better than the 360 in nearly every way but that's just my opinion and I hope I don't come off as a fanboy ( I don't care if you think a 360 is better AN OPINION IS AN OPINION). The only thing I miss from my 360 was Mass Effect, but that's already coming to the PS3 as you know :) As for selling it, that's a bit tough. You should defnitely try Craiglist first and see what you can get from there and if that doesn't work, try Ebay.

That depends on if the OP is interested in PlayStation Move. If he/she is, then I would say just wait until Sept. 19th and buy the $399 bundle that includes the Move bundle and a 320GB HDD. That is essentially a free upgrade from 120GB (well, 160GB now), to 320. Of course, if he/she has no interest in Move, then yeah, go for the cheapest PS3 you can find (120GB are discounted at a lot of places to under $299 to clear them out for the 160GBs).

I'm sure this question has been asked before, so if Gamespot has some kind of link to help a newbie getting acquainted with PS3 that would be useful too. Well let me start by saying I switched to the PS3 last year after my 3rd 360 got RRoD. So I have experience with the both. Now the PS3 Exclusives kill the 360 exclusives. Other then no party chat the online is the same plus I enjoy the layout on PSN then Live. All Live does is through ADS at you left and right, you won't find none of that on PSN. Yes the 360 is a good console but PS3 is staking that #1 spot in these next couple of months. Look at the line up for the games coming out for the PS3 compared to the 360. I think you want a PS3. I never turned back or regretted moving to a PS3 and in fact I am much happier with my PS3 then I was with the 360. Whatever you decide to do best of luck For those who own both, which do you prefer and why? How does PS3 online compare to Live online? I got 100 dollars at gamestop when I traded in my Xbox Elite. Just be sure you have all the cables. Mind you that was a year ago though

....and right before Halo Reach, Fable 3 and Gears of War 3?

I love my ps3, but for some reason i never play online with it. But i understand not wanting to pay for Live and there are plenty of games on ps3 to make you not miss your 360 too much. I suppose if i did not have a 360 i would play on psn a lot more and kick myself for not doing it sooner. But i dont think you will get that much money to make a big difference ..... cant you just have both systems?
