Just bought a PS3 and have a question

Im deployed right now so i aint got time really to search for the answer i want wondering if you can transfer video files to the hdd and still watch them on the ps3 like .avi file and mpg thx for your help oh and dont tell me to just try because im getting it ship here thx

Yes to MP4 video files. PS3 will not play avi. However if you install linux and vlc then you can technically play stored avis on your ps3 if you boot up the linux operating system.

the PS3 only deals in MPEG4 video formats. there are converters out there that will take your AVI and MPG and turn them into MP4

MPEG2 and MPEG4 for the moment

a good and (quite) fast converter is PS3 video 9

What about a RM File (Real Media)? Can it play that? With Linux or not?

Definatly check out PS3 Video 9 for the videos that aren't already compatible with the PS3. I use PSP Video 9 for my PSP and it is excellent, and free!
