Here goes...

I was in the market for a PSP GO but for $249 I thought the price was pretty steep. So I went to Walmart to look at them and instead I find the PSP 3000 Rock Band Value pack. Price...$139.99

The RB Bundle comes with Rock Band (obviously) but it's the full version, not the one loaded to the PSP GO with only 4 songs. In addition it comes with a 4GB card and a movie download (School of Rock). I'm not too crazy about the add ons but for that price...can't go wrong.

I have a buddy who owns an older PSP and said he would sell me a 16GB card for $30 because he's upgrading to the PSP GO. So essentially I'm getting a PSP 3000 with 20GB (16GB + 4GB) for $169.99

Originally I really liked the idea of the PSP GO because I would be able to download games. I really like the convienence of that. I travel for business quite a bit and between stops at airports, trains, hotels, etc I enjoy the ease of not having to swap games. I understand a lot of people dont think its that big of a hassle but to me it would be like having to change a sim card everytime I pulled out my cell to call a diffferent person from my address book.

With that said, now that I have 20GB of memory (figure I can put music on the 4GB and games on the 16GB) is there any reason for me to get the PSP GO instead? Anything in the future that's going to make the GO better or exclusive to downloads?

Thanks in advance for your opinions.

IMO you made a great move. How's the 3000's screen? does it have that weird interlacing issue?

The only thing the PSP Go really has going for it is the built-in 16 gig and a slightly better/worse design, depending on taste. I have a PSP-3000 and love it, this way you get the downloads and UMDs, for almost $100 less (more when you factor in Rock Band and the 4 gig).

you made the right desision, as the PSP 3000 does everything that the PSP Go can do, only with either a better or worse design based on your preferance. there are no exclusives between the two, and the 3000 can download and play all the same titles, but with the option of the UMDs

Don't forget, you aren't limited to only downloading games on the Go. You can download them on your PSP-3000's memory card as well. The 16 gig for $40 was a really good deal- and now, your PSP-3000 is essentially a Go without the sliding screen that is still able to play UMDs. If you run out of room, you'll just do what you would with a Go. Definitely a better deal IMO.

Actually he's selling the 16GB card for $30...which makes it even a better deal!

My opinion is that for you a psp go would probably be a better fit. Instead of having to swap out games and memory cards you could just load them all on a GO with an additional memory card if needed. I dont think youll actually need the 4GB card that came with the system since for most people 16 is enough. I have 7GBs of songs in my psp, and 3GBs of games and minis and still have the alloted space free which for me is 4.2 GBs.

I used to have the 1000 and going from a 1000 to the go is a drastic change for the good. I would have to make sure I had the disc I want to care with me all the time since I would only care the one thats in the system. Yes you can download all games to all psps but then theres the added bulk from the psp 3000 which if you are a business traveler would add to your pockets.

P.S. Im a sony fanboy really and would actually suggest an iphone or itouch unless you are a hardcore gamer that would spend at least 10hours per game you purchase

The PSP is great if you just buying it, but if you've had it for a while (like I have) its terrible.

Everything you explained is exactly why I wanted a PSP GO in the first place...Itouch is not really in the mix for me, I had one and the games on it are waaaay for the casual gamer. Rolando was cool but I never really found myself playing it. I can play loco roco for hours on the other hand.

I guess the question is how much bulkier is the PSP 3000 from the PSP GO. I haven't had the opportunity to hold the PSP GO so its tough for me to decide. I went everywhere to try to find a demo but nobody has them out. (BB, WM, Gamestop...etc) I guess being mostly in the software business, a lot of retail stores aren't going crazy to see them fly off the shelves.

I made the same choice so your choice was right

The PSP Go is a bad idea for anyone unless you want a spare one for things that you need a spare PSP for

The idea that "well if you're a new PSP owner then you should ONLY get a PSP Go" doesn't make much sense

With the PSP Go you're limited in software and you have a smaller screen. In reality the portability is nil between them. No one is going to look at them and say "Boy that Go I can carry everywhere but that 3000 is TOO BIG, I can't even hold it with one hand"

With the 3000 you can download everything you want, get UMD's if you want for half the price of the software if not cheaper, and have a larger screen.

I am the owner of both and the GO is built way better than the 3000. It just feels more solid.

You made a great choice. You are starting great with yourself getting a big memory stick. Looks like you have lots game dowloading to do. Have fun. :)

That's a fantastic deal! Think about it, you paid $170 for a PSP with 16gigs where the Go is $250 with 16gigs. Use the rest of the money for games and download off of PSN as much as you want. Same thing the Go can do but cheaper! Yeah man. No worries. You made a GREAT choice!

You should get a Stamina battery as well. I get at least 7 hours of gameplay with mine.

Well im glad to hear youre not a casual gamer much and have tried the itouch/iphone. IMO the psp3000 size is much different in your pocket than the psp go and if you have a phone sharing the same pocket with a 3000 like i used to do, its really uncomfortable (i would have to take my psp3000 out when ever I sat down). Now I have my psp go with travel case and phone in the same pocket and it fits much roomier (btw i had a bulky case with my 3000 that added a lot to the overall size). As for weight, the psp go weighs a lot less than the 3000 and i dont notice it in my pocket unlike my 3000 that I knew was there all the time.

If youre had the iphone then its nearly identical in size and weight, the only difference is that the go is slightly bigger by half a centimeter (so its negligible). And honestly I think that if you had an iphone and went to the psp 3000, you will be disappointed in size. I highly recommend the psp go for your needs. For someone else, like someone between 10 and 17 i would recommend a 3000. Its really down to preference.

Another thing I want to quickly add. If you like to play games while waiting, then want to quickly switch to listening to music or watching video, then the pause feature on the GO is perfect for a business traveler. Many times I sit in class or sit on a bus I play a game that is distrubed because I have quit playing and listen to the professor or get up and start walking. This is where the pause feature shines as I can just pause the game in its live state and start listening to music then go straight back to where I left off without having to load the game straight from the UMD. Best feature ever.

BTW if you can pay for a itouch then a psp go is only like 50 dollars more with more memory.

I also travel for work a lot. I also plumped for the 3000 (although in my case it was an upgrade from a 1000 and as such had a few UMDs) however the only benefit that I see (other than the live pause thing that really doesn't excite me that much) is the portability. For me I don't put it in my pocket, it lives in my laptop bag so size is so not an issue for me.

Good choice dude! :D:D:D:D

Thanks again everyone for your recommendations! I don't think the GO is as bad as many say technically speaking but it seems like Sony put out two systems so similar that it feels like I'm comparing apples to apples. If they were both the same price I would have gone with the GO but this deal was just too good to pass up!

On another note after playing Rock Band on the PSP it's actually pretty darn fun! I orignially posted that I wasn't too crazy about the bundle but with the 4GB card and now my new found appreciation for this game it turned out pretty sweet!
