I have a swiffer in my room all the time to keep the PS3 clean and I cover it up at night, so I don't have to worry about dust. :) (A big amount of it anyway, because dust always manages to make it in electronics somehow lol)

Do you vacuum all vents? Or which ones? Also is your system on standby when doing so, or completely turned off from the back when vacuuming? There is a lot of vents of the original PS3, so tell me whcih ones?

Vacuum the vents while it's off. With power switch set to off. Then start at the back of the PS3 where is fan is.Also clean where th HDD goes but dont remove your HDD just vacuum out the dusty areas of the PS3.

i vacuum all of the vents, and leave the vacuum on them for about 5 to 10 seconds, i go back and forth really fast to jar loose any dust. i vacuum the back vents, the front vents (the ones under the disc tray, i have the fat ps3) and also the top vent (the top of the ps3 wen its standing up) also i leave mine on standby mostly and i play it in an air conditioned room. i had my ps3 since launch (40 gig) and had no problems since, knock on wood, but sometimes when its hot in my room the fans go into overdirve and start working really hard. but this happens on some games like madden and mlb the show.

I own a 40 gig as well and loving it.I missed the vents under the disk tray still.

Just take a vacuum hose and just vacuum the vents, you don't need to open it or anything. I also unplug it first too. It just gets all that lingering dust in your system that will eventually clog up your vents over time. And yes it's safe, it's actually recommended in the user manual.

if you don't have warranty for your PS3 anymore, you might as well just take it apart and dust from the inside.

I vacuum mine every so often. Vacuum only when off, if you do it when the console is powered-up then the vacuum will fight against the internal fan and could damage it. The clean removes some (it all helps) dust from the internal heat-sinks.

I use a swifter duster on my system every other day and vacuum it about every two or three weeks. Even after doing this after having the system for about 3 years now that runs 24/7 I took it apart a few weeks ago and still found a lot of dust in areas that the vacuum or even the canned air couldn't reach. Also replacing the thermal paste with something like Arctic Silver 5 helps a lot once the paste has cured the fan hardly ever runs even with the AC set at 78 to 79 degrees.

Now why would some people do that..I rather have a professionalopen it up and do that..I also don't shops that say they can do that..Better if Sony handles their product.

Its actually not a bad idea. Any tech-savvy tinkerer would consider it newb work. You're right to seek a professional, though, if you're not comfortable with doing it yourself. I haven't vacuumed mine out at all for the past couple years. I'm about to do it now. Thanks.

I open my PS3 up and vacuum for the inside. You definitely don't have to be tech savy, just understand how to use a screw driver.

I just took a fresh can of air to my PS3. Unbelievable how much dust was in there. There was literally a visible cloud. Thanks for reminding me that I forgot to clean it for a while.

And btw, its not hard to open the PS3. All your really doing is taking off the top cover, and not really moving anything sensitive around. But in all honesty, if youre not comfortable or sure about opening it, then dont. Dont let anyone push you into doing anything you dont want to do. A vacuum and a can of air will do you just fine. Leaving the system closed isnt going to make that much of a difference.
