I thought it was lame. John had fought impossible odds all games. Taking out entire forts of bandits, but he can't even take out 5 guys outside of his barn? Give me a break.

Was i the only person that was fairly underwhelmed by Red Dead? After i finished it i just haven't been able to get back into it and finish off all the side quests that i missed.

I can't agree with you more, TC. RDR completely blew me away. I have high hopes for LA Noire.

I'm counting 13 along w/ only having time to take out your revolver, I thought this part was well executed.

He could have fought from inside the barn, peaking out the doors. He would have had plenty of time to take em out, he didn't have to walk out and just die, I thought it was a cop-out. Great game, but disappointed in the ending. Not in that he died, but in that he went in such a cheap way.

John walked outside the barn knowing he was going to die. He sacrificed himself so that his wife and child would live on. John could have killed all of them, but he didn't because he knew that hey would mercilessly hunt him and his family down. He tried to take out as many as he could before going down for good.

At one point the game was kinda ruined for me because my friend was watching me play it and asked "why does the main character sound like bill paxton" from twister, and after that I could not hear john talk without thinking twister.

Yup, I completed 95% of the extra stuff with john before I did the final missions and damn was I glad because Jack was super annoying....work ya damn nag!

I loved the ending, it was different and I think he had to come out, he knew that if he didn't then they would have killed his family too, it's not like he could have tried to fight them off because they would have retaliated if he had killed any lawmen.

Also, ya OP, as others are stating, there's still a bit to jacks story, it's short and simple, but its good.

Yeah he could have. He could have gunned down every single one of them there and you know what....more would have came. Maybe not that day, but they would have come. He realized this. The point isn't that he was outnumbered at that moment. The point is that he had spent a life outside of society's laws and for that society demanded his blood. Just like with Bill Williamson, Javier Esqulia, and Dutch Van Der Linde. John realized, in that moment, that the only way his family were ever going to know peace was if he paid the price demanded of him.

Well he had no cover... lol. It was still pretty intense though I think, that feeling you may or may not have got in your gut, when you realise the dead eye just ain't gonna do the job. They really goofed up Undead Nightmare though. Blegh.

Undead Nightmare wasn't too bad.. I mean it had a lot of faults and was ridiculously short. Probably not worth $10 either but hey it was nice to go back and revisit on Halloween and see a different side of one of my favorite games.

yeah i was sadly dissapointed with the game for sure. i mean it had a great story and voice acting, but the actual gameplay was crap. i hated the dead eye stuff, the free aim was shaky, and horses are too damn slow. some of the graphics were nice, but a lot of pop in Tall Trees. i sold it the day after i beat it. and the ending was pretty lame honestly, its like, does every western end that way??im looking at you butch cassidy and the sundance kid.

i did not enjoy it. and i loved GTA4 and am looking forward to LA Noire...kinda weird

So two examples = an entire genre? (Keep in mind, also, that Butch and Sundance are based off real events)

Are you really gonna count Jack's last mission? lol Jack's last final mission took like a whole two seconds. I consider John dying the end of the game.

It took a lot more than two seconds. It's been a while since I've played so I don't remember the names. First you look for the main guy who killed your dad. Can't find him where he's supposed to be so you find his wife. He's still not there, so you find his brother. Still not there so you get the info from him, and finally find the guy. That's a LOT more than 2 seconds. I really got into this game. I HATED the main guy who killed John. When I found his wife and she gave the info on where he could be, I was like "ok, this mother f'er is going to pay". Then I started thinking "wait, he killed this guys dad and made him jump through hoops.....Turn about's fair play" so I lassoed his wife and drug her up the hill. Hog tied her and put her on the back of the horse. Put her on the train tracks and watched her get hit by a train, that unlocked an achievement (I had the 360 version). Next I found his brother. After he gave up the info, I hog tied him up and placed him in his camp fire. Then threw some molotovs on him. I don't remember exactly what I did to the main guy. I think I just blew him away with a shotgun, then proceeded to teabag his dead body and finally throwing it in the river.

lol that's pretty funny. Ok so you turned about a 5 minute thing into about 15 to 20 minutes. I guess that's pretty epic. I still loved Jacks final mission don't get me wrong but I was just so attached to John that once he died I didn't really give a crap about Jack but I was happy to get revenge. You can leave the stranger missions untouched though and play them with Jack and you'll get some different dialogue if you have run into them with John but come back to them as Jack. I left one stranger mission unfinished before John died and it was the one where the guy was building a glider and I came back as Jack.

Yeah, the guy who thought it was lame was right though. Yes, the ending is a part of the "theme" of RDR, that karma (all your wrong doings) will eventually catch up to you. But it is kinda stupid that Marston survived all odds, yet he CHOSE to exit in the front of the barn. He knew what was coming, and I guess he chose that way b/c so future karma won't bother the rest of his family. The burden was on him alone. Great game, I didn't like the ending too much. Marston's kid had an annoying voice, and after a few mins of playing with the son, I reverted to an old save so I can try to play the game with J.marston again.

Great game, SO-SO ending.

With comments like yours, how can we ever explain to politicians that violent games don't affect kids? :s

Definitely a memorable ending to a truly great game. John Marston was the best character I have seen yet in a video game. This will be one of those games I'll remember for a long time.

One of the best endings this gen. It was the only way his family would be left alone, and it was a twist for someone used to Rockstar's endings. (good guy wins, bad guy dies)

its called exaggerating....you know.....like how itll be hot in a room and people will say something like "GEEZ ITS LIKE 1000 degrees in here" of course it isnt 1000 degrees because theyd all be dead.... moving on....i dont think that the John ending was that bad he had to do that.....i more hate the LEAD up to the end....it was really all to just take up the time.....so many of those missions coulve been kept out...the ending though was PRETTY GOOD...ur supposed to hate that he dies...im just saying

damn, dont you guys get whats the meaning of the ending? john was brave enough to die like that and to show the police that hes not afraid of them, and the reason why he get out of that barn is for them to kill him because JOHN MARSTON KNOWS, THAT HIS FAMILY WONT HAVE PEACE AND WILL ALWAYS BE CHASED AND HUNTED BY THE POLICE AND HE DOESNT WANT THAT TO HAPPEN, INSTEAD he faced the odds and get out of the barn fearlesly for his family, now JUST LOOK AT how good that ending was.. that was epic :((

Oh, I get the ending. That still doesn't mean I don't think it was lame. I would rather have seen a few different scenarios: A) John takes out the guys. His family gets hunted down and murdered. John goes on a sadistic bender of revenge and booze, and lives a life of regret and pain that he will never get over B) John takes out the guys and his family and him go on the run and in hiding. More missions where he battles off intruders trying to mess with him family. Either scenario could have kept the character going. This is just my preference, no amount of typing in caps will change my opinion of the ending of the game. Epic to some, just plain lame to others. I guess that is why we all have opinions..

Liked the game as a whole. I really disliked the ending. If it would have let me play the ending like I did the rest of the game, and it just overran me with impossibility then that would have been epic! They could have set the barn on fire, completely surround it. But I could have easily poked my head out there shot 6 of them (because lets face it, the game wasn't hard on hard with auto aim off) get back in reload and repeat, easy as pie. At least Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid really did face enormous odds and they didn't give up!

sorry to offend you man but IMO, if they did that on the ending or if john marston would still runaway from what he did to his life, it would never end.. he just did the hardest and bravest thing a man could do.. its just good that all of us have been with john until the end atleast we all knew he died for a cause, and that cause was great and i believe even those police that killed him respected him for that brave thing he did

At least Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid really did face enormous odds and they didn't give up!

john never gave up IMO.. he fought and fought the hardest thing in the end he accepted his fate and faced all the consequences of everything he did. he sacrificed himself for the peace of his family.. its like he fought himself , john didnt want to die but he needed to do it even he dont want because thats the right thing to do.. but its good that he tried to take down as much as he can in the end to go with him in hell. LOL :)

[QUOTE="Srenjy"]damn, dont you guys get whats the meaning of the ending? john was brave enough to die like that and to show the police that hes not afraid of them, and the reason why he get out of that barn is for them to kill him because JOHN MARSTON KNOWS, THAT HIS FAMILY WONT HAVE PEACE AND WILL ALWAYS BE CHASED AND HUNTED BY THE POLICE AND HE DOESNT WANT THAT TO HAPPEN, INSTEAD he faced the odds and get out of the barn fearlesly for his family, now JUST LOOK AT how good that ending was.. that was epic :((corigan

Considering the themes of the game and the story within it, those endings are simply distasteful, no matter how you look at it. It's about honor, dedication, and family values. The ending couldn't have been better for a game with those kinds of themes.

Except that neither of those would have worked with the narrative. The whole reason why John left the outlaw life behind, and the reason he agreed to hunt down his former brothers-in-arms was to give his family a peaceful life. Living a voilent life on the run is rather counterintuitive to that goal. At the end John did what he had to do to give his wife and son peace. He sacrificed himself to save his family.

I loved the ending to RDR. It's a catch 22 with John being gone. It is redemption for what Jack does. It's good for the story, but it sucks you can't play as John anymore. I don't say this all the time, but I think John Marston is one of the best videogame characters of all time. When he died, it felt like losing a friend. Really it did.

This has to be the best game i've ever played. It's perfect in every way. A damn fine game from Rockstar.

I wish they would've gotten into more of the earlier characters you met. Like, what happened to them? Bonnie, and Marshal Johnson & a few others. Otherwise, it was an amazing game for me as well :)

Yeah, I just recently finished red dead redemption for the first time myself a few days ago and it was sad. Not many videogame characters get to me, but what happened to John Marston and everything he had gone through in life was tragic.

The newspaper gives some indication after you take control of Jack.Marshal Johnson retires and moves away. Landon Ricketts dies in his sleep. Not sure if it says what happens to Bonnie.

The ending was sad but held a purpose. RDR is a great game, I loved every second of it.

[QUOTE="IAMTHEVIPQUEEN"][QUOTE="Invisible_Kid2"][QUOTE="Foulcry"] Are you really gonna count Jack's last mission? lol Jack's last final mission took like a whole two seconds.

With comments like yours, how can we ever explain to politicians that violent games don't affect kids? :s

I'm 26. If some how you're meaning that I'm a kid based on my username, I've had this name since I joined on March 2nd 2003. I literally just turned 18 back then (birthday 2/24/85)
