Worst router ever for the PS3, funny I did not see anything about this in all my research, just saw how "good" the router is.

First off the set up is a joke, the PS3 can find the router just find via wireless, but half the time I get a 8013013D error. When it does work the speed is a joke. Just did a 100MB test wireless VS wired:

Wireless: 100MB in 273 secs for a glacial 2930 kbps

Wired: 100MB in 191 secs for a faster 4188kbps (the test paused for a good 20 secs near the end, can thank PSN for that)

Seems like as I am downloding off the to the PS3 with this setup the "blue speedometer gauge" on the front of the router will go from full to half full to full to almost empty to full. Never seems to keep a steady speed on Wifi, wired its somewhat better.

How do you set up this router? I could get almost 1MB/sec on my old ****** G (the cheap one). This one would get lapped if they were race cars.

Try turning your router to the wireless "g" only and see what speeds you get. What otehr wireless equipment do you have running??

I looked up my router and i found out that it has an issue with UPNP. A new firmware fixes that glitch. If your PS3 can use UPNP, its connection improves big time ;)

It seems very fast wired, the wireless is a joke. Very slow. But its so hard to tell sometimes, since PSN is fast/slow/up/down at a moments notice.

I noticed in wireless mode when I tried out Home it took a good few mins for all the people to "load up"

Just replaced my ancient Linksys B with a NetGear G and couldn't be happier. It's like I've gone from 5 mph to 90 mph.

It would've been nicer to go up to an N, but I wasn't sure my PS3's wireless could handle that speed.

Well the Playstation 3 doesnt have a wireless "N" adaptor in it. So it cant use it. It only has a "b" and "g" adaptor. But it does have gigabit ethernet which is what im using and is fantastic

I am starting to wonder what the point of having WiFi is when the damn thing wont even connect half the time, just about ready to go back to my El Cheapo ****** Wireless G. Seemed like it was faster. Nothing like spending 80 bucks on a piece of junk.

I could always wire it up, but I should not have to, thats the point of having WiFi, ****** must have missed the memo. I get a nice new N class router and now when (and if) I get my new TV and move my PS3 over there, I will have to run Ethernet cable all over the damn place. Great.

I got my PS3 to connect to this N class router ONE TIME, then I went it and was messing around, started over with it and now it refuees to work. Keep getting that 8013013D error. May as well call it the "sucker" error since I got sucked into gettting a N class router.

It seems to be something with the WiFi security. I mean, who knew, it worked fine with my old ******, with this one my PS3 is wetting itself not being able to get hooked up WiFi. My Ipod had no issue at all Wifi BTW.

Feels really good having no password on my WiFi, may as well hang a bleeping sign out side the window. FREE BROADBAND!

Yes in case you wonder what I did, I shut off the Wifi security and the thing hooked right up. Really lame that it worked just fine on my old router but has a fit on my new SAME BRAND router.

Try with security again. But start from the lowest form and work your way up. See what happens. If it ends up that you cant use security then make sure you put MAC filtering on so you have a least a little bit of protection from attacks and leechers.

I dont get all the security stuff in there, half the time you have to right down this 20 hexdec thing that is hard to remember. God, it takes less grief to launch cruise missiles.

Right now I am having fun having the DMZ thing not work either, man this rocks. How my PS3 can be perfecaly happy with my old ****** G and not even find an IP with this one is beyond me.

why change? isn't the letter just how far the ****** router's wireless is capable of reaching?

FINALLY got it to work right. I had to go in and change the authentication method, guess whatever the default was it was too much for the PS3. So now my PS3 is in the DMZ (for good measure, no chance it will get hacked) and its running very fast, almost 1MB/sec wireless! At first I was changing the whole security method which would have me putting in hex groups in the window, ugh.

Thanks for the help and ****** ROCKS even if their documentation sucks!

Just did my 100MB speed test off of PSN no less:

100MB = 800Mb and it took 111 secs

so

800Mb/111sec = 7.2Mb/sec from PSN wireless to the PS3

Bear in mind my internet connection from Mediacom is 8Mb/sec....so life is good :)

Better than yesterday when I was getting 2.5 or 3 and just happy it was conecting at all.

Now at least I can rest assured when I get my nice new 40 inch Bravia someday soon I will be able to have my PS3 near the TV and not have ethernet cable spread all over creation.

You do relise DMZ opens all your ports so it actully makes it easier to hack.

Oh and the letter that specifies the type of wirless (ie b,a,g,n) not only extends the range but increase the speed as well or change the frequency the signal is braodcast on (in "a" case). However both devices need to be compatiable with the standard to take advantage of it.

If your concerned about getting hacked do not broadcast your ssid and use the MAC blocking feature to make it a tad bit harder. You can also use more encryption when your set your password so you have to have a lot of characters(forget the exact name for it atm). anyhow I would say ****** and netgear have the best wifi routers. I stay away from linksys. Wireless N sucks with the PS3, I would stick to a\b\g routers is possible.

I mis-spoke. I know the DMZ is a open area that is easier to hack, I just mean I feel a lot safer having my PS3 in that are rather than say my PC or something like that. Dont know too many hackers who mess with PS3, not a very easy system.

At some point I may just try to set it up normal and NOT have it in the DMZ, I am thinking more and more that it was the authentication thing that was fouling it up. When I toned that down it worked right off (but with it in the DMZ its tough to know, never change more then one thing at a time, youll never know what made it work :) )

You may just need to run everything through a power cycle. When mine acts up, I do this and everything is perfect afterwards.

Unless that router supports dual band it's kind of a waste. Your PS3 uses G so unless it's dual band (able to run G and N at the same time) you bought a N router and using it for G, doesn't really make sense.

I have a ****** N+ Router too and it works great with my all 3 wired computers and the wireless on my PS3, Wii, and 360. If you have a Comcast modem, remove the battery, reinsert it, start up the modem, then connect the router and let that start up and rerun the setup and it should fix any connection problems. Make sure you secure it too afterwards. If you don't have a Comcast modem, then I'm not sure what you need to do. I just know that's what I had to do.

I have the same router as you and I have never gotten the error you posted here, However, I do get plenty of dropped connections. I switched back to my old Netgear for the time being and have had far less problems, but I will be re-uprgading sometime soon. BTW this isnt just with the PS3, its with any connection period, drops alot :(
