as the titles suggests i just got a ps3 and metal gear 4 but wont be able to play it for awhile.
what is the multiplayer like? please no campaign spoilers.
ive never player any metal gear multiplayer and have no idea what to expect?

multiplayer is very tactical, you have to get used to it, it wasn't my cup of tea, but it might be yours, it's a 3rd person multiplayer as well (like the actual MGS game)
Its bad, really bad.
Its even worse now because you will be starting at level 0. Most of the community are pros in the high levels. Having a higher level in Metal Gear Solid 4 means you have the gameplay advantage due to having all the perks and skill points.

dont listen to this guy. well ill take everything ive heard into consideration. thanks! You really don't have much of an option at this point anyways do you. You already bought the game. Just dive in and find out if you like it. It is one of the games I owned with my old PS3. But I never got a chance to play the multiplayer before having my PS3+games was stolen. Not worth your time. Pick up UC3 and enjoy the premier TPS MP.
Not saying MGS4 isn't worth time just MGO.
hows the community?? people still online playing it?VHEISUum back when I played it in 2008, the only people there were some super elite gamers from Japan that would be on the whole day. I dont know if the servers are still up. BUT good luck even getting to the main menu cuz the updates take weeks to download and that was back in 08, imagen all the updates you'll have to DL now. PLUS the horrific Konami sign up account thing.
Well, I got it at launch, and if I remember right multiplayer wasn't available right away.
I never even bothered to hurdle the sign up process.
I can assure you however, that you won't feel your purchase wasted even if you never get around to the multiplayer, or even if you do and hate it.

listen to this guy.Fix'd
The multilayer is AWFUL. Enjoy getting insta-killed by a bunch of hacking Asians.
You shouldn't fix'd whats not broken and MGO is not hack fest online game.I agree with this guy^ Even tho i am the biggest MGS FAN EVER, MGO was just too slow for me, and the controls are very awkard, if you are into TPS multiplayer games, get Uncharted 3, no way you can go wrong thereNot worth your time. ohh ok i was trippin out. i thought i was missing some important story information lolYou most likely won't enjoy the mulitplayer, mostly because the other players who are left playing the game are hardcore players, and you will probably get your ass handed over to you - also, the aiming in this game is very zaney (ie. hard to control, and thus imprecise).
BUT, playing it back in the day, this game has the single best original mode in recent memory (nope, there is no exaggerating here), and that is team snk (team sneak). It pits a regular team of players with players who have cloaking suits. It turns out to be very cat-and-mouse type of game, and it's very fun. The only way you can see your other "invisible opponents" is when they shoot their gun, which makes them become visible for a split second, through their shadows, which are casted when under the sun, or through dust thrown up in the air when your invisible opponents run for it. The invisible team must stay in the shade, run only when necessary, and take the visible opponents out by tranquilizer guns.
A lot of people overlooked this mode, and I can see why: the entire online experience is pretty cumbersome, and the gameplay unrefined. However, take the word of a jaded gamer who's been playing games for a very long time (and someone who plays all types of games, besides non-fighting sports games [i only play boxing and mma games]) - this will probably be the slickest mode you will ever see in a video game - both on paper, and in-game.

IDK if they got rid of it yet, but the reason the had it was becuz MGO doesnt use PSN. But good luck downloading those updates, you might need to leave your PS3 on for a month. ITs not worth your time, it takes 30 mins to find a game, the only people playing it are a couple hundred Japanese super owning elites. And I havent played this since 08-09, I doubt it got any better.
man i just tried to download the updates. no go. is there any other way i can get the updates??? i just want to get it as shot it sounds fun but if not ill just go back to bf3You most likely won't enjoy the mulitplayer, mostly because the other players who are left playing the game are hardcore players, and you will probably get your ass handed over to you - also, the aiming in this game is very zaney (ie. hard to control, and thus imprecise).

The first Uncharted doesn't have MP and UC3 improved on UC2 MP drastically imo. But the games are known for their excellent SP experiences, sooooooo just get the trilogy!

I thought there were 2 ways to update? One was p2p, which is peer to peer, and direct download. P2p would be faster if theyre alot of ppl playing, direct dl would be faster if hardly anyone were playing. I'm not sure what updates you're talking about
my gosh.. its so depressing that multiplayer is even rearing its ugly head on the metal gear series now... even this great franchise isn't safe from being eaten by the mp monster... :(

So you hate everything online gaming related? I guess you just have to ease into it, not right to downright hate MP though I can see where you are coming from. If MP/Co-op takes away from the SP experience I would hate it to but MGO did no such thing to MGS4 and likewise with Uncharted series. In fact the latter IP did a lot to warm me up to MP. Now I will never get into FPS/COD type experiences but Im all for TPS, and Fighting MP mayhem. You just gotta find one that clicks. Next year there's Anarchy Reigns, SSX and Twisted Metal!

twisted metal... don't remind me.. i've read all the reports.. mp has completely and utterly destroyed this series, the new one isn't even gonna have a challange mode and the drivers no longer even have story lines... all cause of mp.. you're right, i most definately hate mp, why? because it takes ALL the fun out of gaming.[QUOTE="glitch2424"][QUOTE="VHEISU"] man i just tried to download the updates. no go. is there any other way i can get the updates??? i just want to get it as shot it sounds fun but if not ill just go back to bf3VHEISU

The game was always about multiple gamers playing together via splitscreen and now you can do it online as well. I don't get your issues with TM, and it seems you don't have the full picture. TM will have a story and the most expensive(scope) story in the franchise, not one but 4. And as a fan of TMB I say it's very true to the franchise. Now it doesn't have every character which I don't like either, I understand in terms of story but they should have added them for the spitscreen/MP mayhem.
Keep in mind the series hasn't had a proper console release in 10 years or so. The fact the fans finally get a TM should be exciting enough.
