A few questions though. Should i switch the PS3 off (from the back) when I go to sleep or should I just leave it on standby.

I've left mine on standby for over a year and it's still working perfectly.

I've had my second ps3 since july and only use the back switch when I'm packing up the system to take some where or when I'm going out of town

if u dont put iton standby when u turn it offur system will malfunction

should be left on standby all the time. If system/console is off, there should be a red light on. Just read the ps3 manual, if you want more assurance.

Why not put it in standby and THEN switch it off at the back? Surely thats what it's meant for.. I got my PS3 for Christmas, i've left it on standby.

Leaving it on standby is fine.It's nice to be able to start up the console just by pressing the Playstation button on your controller. ^^

You can do it either way, but I personally shut it off in the back.

Heh... I've been turning off my PS2 via the back switch ever since I bought it, and it's fine. I don't want to take any chances with my PS3 though, so I'm leaving it in standby. :)
