I just got my ps3 like 6 hours ago with assassin's creed, with accessories, and I also got a HDMI cable. I have a HDTV with 1080p (or 1080i, I can't remember) and I have a HDMI cable plug in ( where I can plug in the HDMI cable into the TV.) I am very confused because I went to settings, display settings and then it was the first one on the list. I put HDMI and the ps3 said that It wont covert it to the HDMI cable. So, what I'm trying to say is that I don't know how to transfer the HDMI cable so it can start working in SUPER HD. What do you do when you get the HDMI cable (after you plug it in)? Does the PS3 automatically transfer the HDMI cable image thing once you plug it in? Do I need to have those cables (that came with the PS3.) in the TV when you have the HDMI cable in the TV also? Please be very specific when you reply back. Thank you so much for your help. -CrazyGamer9163

O_O still confused with what ur doin...if u have the composite cables also hooked in u dont need to do that, u just have only ur hdmi, turn ur ps3 on and than hold down the power button till u hear like 3 beeps, which autodetect the resolution settings(need someone to confirm that's how u do it though)

Try restarting the Ps3 so it detects the HDMI cable, maybe.

The console should automatically detect the HDMI cable. Of course, the HDMI cable has to be plugged into the PS3 console before you turn its power on.

To make it clear for you, what I did with my PS3 was:

1. with the PS3's power OFF, connect it to the TV via HDMI cable

2. connect the power cable to the PS3 and then to the wall power outlet

3. connect the sixaxis controller to the PS3 console via USB cable (to charge it)

4. turn the PS3 on

5. update the system firmware via USB removable memory device

And NO! You don't need the video cables that come with the system. You get both image and sound with one single HDMI cable.

You can download the firmware directly with your PS3 (if it's hooked up to the internet). OR if you have a flash drive/memory card/external hard drive, you can download the firmware via internet on your computer, then transfer the firmware to your flash drive. And you plug the flash drive device into your PS3; go to "Settings" --> "System Update" --> "Update via Storage Media."

Hope this helps.

Are you sure your tv is on the right input then? It should detect the hdmi right away.

for #5 do you mean the system update? I didn't update my system yet and I tryed turning it on with ONLY the HDMI cable and the power cord, but I didn't see or hear anything. However, I have only heard something on a different video output. How do you know which video its on?

This is what I tryed doing on my PS3 with the HDMI cable: 1. I went to settings. 2. Then I went to display settings. 3. Then I went to video output settings (the first one on the top of the list). 4. I then scrolled up to select the connection HDMI. 5. It said some stuff like " The screen will go blank for 30 seconds" and some other stuff.

Then I got stuck. It wouldn't switch. They should really tell you on the HDMI cable how to do it and on the PS3 book on how to do it but have it really simple and easy.

Yes, I meant "system update."

Sometimes a system update will help fix problems with settings, so I think it's worth a try.

Don't panic.

Plug in the HDMI cable to your TV and the PS3. turn off your PS3, then turn it on. An image should pop up. Change setting then if necessary.

You need to plug everything up. Then reset the PS3 by holding the power button from off more than 13 seconds or until you hear two beeps. It should auto detect the HDMI signal.

Ok ater the 5th step you need to switch your TV to the HDMI display(usually by pressing the VCR/TV button on the remote control). The reason you dont see anything for 30 seconds is because the PS3 has switched to the HDMI display while you are still set on the component display.

Your console should have detected the HDMI cable immediately. My only advice is to unplug everything (PS3 and attachments) - then connect everything and try it again.

I tryed both things: When I restarted the TV with ONLY HDMI and the power cord cable hooked up, nothing showed up, however on a differnt video imput I could only hear sound.

I tryed that also, 30 seconds later the it went back to the the screen where you select which kind of connection you want to switch to. Like I said, I can only hear sound on a differnt video imput, so do I have to go to video output settings and change it with no picture? P.S. I'll add you to next time I'm on. yes you can set it manually but you have to put it on a certain channel, and if I choose the wrong one, I can damage the speakers on my TV (that's what it says on the PS3). Also, there is like 25 different channels to chose from. I tryed looking up how to do it on youtube, and I saw this in one of the comments, is this how you hook it up? Basically: 1. Make sure the Audio is set up to go through your Optical device. 2. Turn off the playstation, making sure the TV is switched off just before the playstation turns off. 3. Switch the playstation back on. 4. Wait a second or two before turning the TV back on...timing is crucial. Too soon or too late, it won't work. I wait till just after the playstation makes a tiny beeb noise. Here's the link for people who want to see the video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=NTJJTS5InHU

I tryed that it didn't work. If your still confused, tell me exactly what YOU did when you got the HDMI cable and/or your ps3.CrazyGamer9163

Here is what i did. THis is what sony recommends doing. follow the instruction in the handbook thing that comes with the ps3

1. Uplug the power source from ps3 completely

2. plug in your HDMI cable into ps3

3. take other end and plug into your tv

4.plug power source back into ps3

5. turn on ps3 and tv and your ps3 will boot up and it should go automatically to HDMI settings

it will ask you stuff like "do you want optimal settings" and stuff like that. if that doesnt work dont know what will

are you switching the video settings on the tv? like video1-sd (red white and yellow cables) while video 2 or whatever is HDMI? when you tell the ps3 to display in HDMI, remember to switch to the new video on your tv

heck i got stuck i didnt know how to select my 720p setting using component cables i went to settings display ,, then selected component it asked if i wanted to change i said yes then when it got to the resolution setting it kept reseting to 420 p until i figured it out,, i had to use the d pad right,, then say yes again so ya it was kinda confusing
