I got it from my sister for Christmas. Is it really as bad as some people say?

It's not as bad as people say it is. you just have to spend some time learning the sixaxis controls. playing with the analog controls is terrible imo.
Change the controls to analog and its a pretty good game. They tried something new, and it didnt work out too well. They patched it to allow analog controls and that made it a decent game. Not great, but definitely playable. Also even with the sixaxis controls, its not even close to the worst game ive ever played. Maybe for young kid gamers its bad, but others of us have been gaming for 20+ years and have some stories to tell.
It's not as bad as they say, but the first thing you should do is log onto PSN, and download the analog control patch ;). (I seriously HATED the Sixaxis controls)).I got it from my sister for Christmas. Is it really as bad as some people say?

I used the Sixaxis movement with no porblems, only the targeting was broken but it was patched.
I liked the game but got stuck at the sea serpent (maybe lvl 6 or 7)

Never got around to buying or playing lair for that matter...my friend had it and said it was real stupid...i think he got rid of it about a week or 2 later
I still don't understand the hate for this game. I have it and I thoroughly enjoyed both play throughs. I had absolutely no problems with the flight controls with the Sixaxis and when they added joystick functionality I played it again, also with no problems.

[QUOTE="kweeni"]In Lair, you fly on dragons.Abecale
In lair, you fly dragons and attack things.
in lair, you fly dragons, attack things while you suffer from dreadfull controllers with even more dreafull graphics that are even able to be recreated on the wiiThis game really wasn't that bad in 07. It was not the worst game or anywhere near as bad as most people or revies said it was. The controls aren't the best but they aren't the worst if you get used to it. The biggest problems I had were figuring out the little things that meant a lot in this game. The fire balls for instance. If you mash the button the dragon shoots little ones, but if you wait a couple of seconds and then press square, he shoots a big one. The big fire ball is essential to defeating the first major boss in the game. Doing the 180 turn around was rather simple if you learned how to do it right. If dipped the controller down and then immediatelay up, it did the move 90% of the time. If you just held the controller and jerked up, no it would not work. I would easily give the game a 7 back then maybe a 6 today because it's been a couple of years. The biggest problem with the game are the missions. It's kind of the same thing in each level for the most part, It's always something like destroy the bad guys attacking the mantas or turrets, or something of that nature. The physical fighting was a bit dumb. It was cool that you could unlock new moves, but they were just longer combo variations of the moves already there. They had all the ideas to make a great a game. If they thought up different style missions while tightening the controls, it would have been a pretty cool game.
Factor 5 was the first company to realize that if you make the PS3 first and then port to 360, you will get good results on both platforms, so I wouldn't say that they are a crappy company for one bad game. Factor 5 are not one trick pony's. They made Turrican way before Rogue Squadron even came out so I don't know where that is coming from.
your definitly talking about analog controller (when the game first camed out, you could only use sixaxis to move, the devs realized that was bullcrap and they released a patch to allow you to play with analogs as well)I like it. Controls were actually easy
Anyone who says otherwise obviously didnt redo the tutorial ;)

Not every who played the game thought that. They were people early on who said if you practiced the controls. I happen to agree with them. The control weren't perfect but if you put in acouple of hours practice, you shouldn't have had much to deal with. Just because a game takes more than 5 minutes to learn how to play does not make it a bad game. I was also skeptical when I read all the bad reviews but then after watching people on youtube play it and showed how they controlled everything, I decided "hey screw it does not look that bad to me." Despite how I feel about most reviews, GameInformer actually had the most accurate one of them all for Lair.
P.S. Stop going into these threads and saying negative things, first Dante's Inferno and now this. It's fine to offer your opinion but to keep saying everyone is wrongbecause of theirs is just a waste. If you don't like something, say it and move on.

Or my other theory is that you haven't played it all and you are just riding the hate train because I see you doing nothing else on these forums...I like it. Controls were actually easy
