Ok so i bought my ps3 250 gig off someone off craigslist yesterday comes with 3 games 2 controllers and hdmi, only thing is he ONLY had hdmi no compnent cables so none of my tv's has the hdmi output (but they are expensive.)

So my question is which cables should I buy?

Composite or component?

HDMI is the highest quality, but for those two: Component is the higher quality.
However, make sure you buy good quality component cables, since it's analog and not digital (like HDMI), so quality of the cables matters.

Honestly your almost better off getting a HDTV. Besides the logical reason that all tech is moving to that. It is also pretty cheap to buy.

Component is the better one as previously posted, get a good one preferably an insulated one as it'll provide a much stronger signal.

Like what everyone else is saying, if your TV supports component than get a component cable.

The official one will be fine... You don't really need an expensive one.

this - you'll notice right off the bat that its going to be hard to read text in some games. i had my ps3 for about 2 weeks before i couldnt stand it anymore and dropped some money on a decent flat screen.

I'm not punching anyones nose with this, but...
...I don't get it. On every forum, there's same problem.

If someone asks a question about something, he gets an "answers" that most likely, has nothing to do with the subject he was asking.
In this case: -"Which should I get, composite or component cables?" -"Get HDTV!1!"
No one here knows who he is, where he lives or what he does for a living, and does he already have the HDTV or not, but half of the people are guiding him to do what he already have done.

He was asking help for the cable he was going to buy, not for his TV.

I have spoken.

Component can look just as good as an HDMI cable at the right settings. Anyways, I think you've already found out that's what you need.

I used to play using SDTV believe me I didn't like it at all but it's better than nothing After few months I bought a new PC monitor because I cannot afford a HDTV I bought a 22 Inch Samsung (2253BW) and I'm using that monitor for both PC and PS3(PS3 using HDMI to DVI) cable and the sound with some kind adapter (I can't remember the name) You attach the red and white cables to the adapter and plug it in your subwoofer or whatever you have
