Once you hooked it up to your broadband internet wired or wireless. you'll see the update for it. if not there's an update set up on your XMB. it's as easy as 1 2 3 and A B C.

Yea familiarize yourself with the cross media bar (main menu). System updates you can do either through PS3 on download the patch off the Playstation website and install it onto your PS3 through a USB flash drive.

Depending on what model you have, you should be able to go online using the WI-FI connection that the PS3 has that's built in. The PS3 will surely automatically tell you that you need to update the firmware if there is an update needed. For wireless, the PS3 will automatically search for the connection, unless you have it password protected in which you'll have to input the info on your own.

The nice thing is after your connected to the internet with the PS3 it's very easy to get the firmware updates and check out the on-line PSN. The only thing is dial-up internet will not work for this because it's to slow.
