My 2 neighbors upstairs bought a PS3 yesterday mainly as a BluRay player because they really liked watching my HD movies (granted, my 120" screen and audio setup is a little different than their 56", but oh well!) and 1 of them plays the very occasional game (has 3 games for her PS2 which hasn't been touched in probably 3 months at the very least).
Anyway, she bought CoD4 with her Walmart giftcard (apparently she has innate good taste?) as her game. I decided I would let them borrow my copy of Uncharted because I figured that would be a better game for 1 to play and the other to watch than CoD4 (since 2 player deathmatch ain't exactly fun....). Well, that was 6hrs ago and they are still playing through Uncharted and raving about it and how much it's just like a movie that they get to play, how pretty it is, etc. Have I created a monster/gamer out of these girls?!
Just thought I'd share since guys always seem to be trying to get their girlfriends to play games. I think the secret is to find something that they can really grasp and get into. In this sense, I believe story is probably key if you want them to be able to enjoy a single player game. Also, the more it is like a medium they are already intimately familiar with like movies or music (see: girls like Rock Band and Guitar Hero), the more they seem to be willing to give it a try and the more accessible it is to them.
