I was watching some MacGyver episodes at home on my PS3 that I had ripped from the complete seasons collection I bought on DVD last week, just going episode by episode. Anyway, I had a dentist appointment for some fillings earlier yesterday.

The wait in the room was taking forever. It was almost a full 45 minutes after the time they told me to be there and I was still waiting. Luckily I had my psp to pass the time.

Using their WiFi in their office I simply logged into my PS3 at home and continued the episode that I was watching. Awesome! I was able to share some photos with a friend of mine that happened to be there as well.

Remote play is one thing that Sony is doing right. I want to see more features implemented and more games support it.

I havent tried that remote play yet. One question do you need wifi on your ps3 to do this? Because I have the 20GB version. But that sounds really cool.

Nope. You only need to have it connected to the internet. Be it wired or wireless. You can access your PS3 through your internal LAN or across the internet.

But the one problem is that your Ps3 needs to be on and on remote play for the PSP to access it. So if I was away I can't just pick up my PSP and access remote play can I? Of course I can do that easily if I have a controller with me. That brings up another question, how far away from a PS3 will the controller still be able to access the PS3 and how far can the PSP get from the PS3?

PSP Firmware update 3.72 allows remote start and shutdown. PS3 Firmware 2.00+ allows this.

The range of your PSP is dependant on the strength of your router signal. For the most part using ad-hoc between PSP-PS3 is sufficient.

Remember you don't need to be on the same network as the console. You can use it anywhere you can connect your PSP to the internet.

The controller can be a few 100 feet away from the console to operate it. The PSP can be anywhere in the world that has a wifi hotspot to operate your PS3.

Very very cool feature, I travel quite a bit and have stored most of my Anime episode on PS3 HD. To be able to access them on PSP while on the lunch or in the bus, oh my...

Very cool. :)

The remote play feature is my main reason for considering buying the psp. I don't think I would use it much for hand-held gaming, but for streaming content on my ps3 to it would be great.

I have a question, can you stream blu-ray movies in your ps3 to the psp?

Thanks

I don't think you can. I tried it with a DVD and it wouldn't work so I would assume the same for a blu-ray dvd.

Yep, I can't wait until this is all functional. Has anyone forgotten that eventually, you'll be able to play just about any PS3 game on your PSP through Remote Play? The only game that works thus far is Lair, which I know most of you probably hate. I loved it and I had no issues with the sixaxis controls, but regardless this technology is awesome.

I have both and am usingremote playright now at work.If you wifi connect thePSP and PS3, they both have to be in range of each other. However, you can stilluse itaway from homebyaccessing a wifi hotspot (i.e. starbucks)through thePSPandremote playvia internetthrough PS3 at home.Your PS3 at home must obviouslybe on remote play for it to work though. Ihave an external 120gig hardrive hooked up to my 60gig PS3 atall times so i can accessall my music, pictures, andvideos at work or somewhere else. This is by far one of the best features forPS3 in my opinion. It basically turns your PSP into a video IPOD without the drain of battery power.Get at me if you need help...

Remote play in my expierence is pretty useless.

For one theres hardly any wireless hot spots where i live, so it really is useless to me.

Also i have tried it and it's nowhere near the quality of putting the video onto a memory stick, so if i ever want vid's music, pics on the go it will take me a few mins to transfer them from my pc to my psp slim and the quality's allot better.

I guess i'm not as interested in remote play as you guys.

The only use i could really get out of it would be using it as a rear view mirror in gran turismo, now that would be a good use.
