I just connected to PSN to buy Mega Man 9 and came across their new user agreement with the latest update. The biggest things that stood out are that Sony said they could read any of your mail, would not be held responsible if one of their new updates harms your system, and that they can use any user-made content without getting the maker's consent and without paying anything in return. Who else finds this disturbing?

I mostly see the invasion of privacy and the evasion of responsibility. Sony has no business reading anyone's messages and if one of their software updates screws a system, they should repair or replace it. It's unlikely that anyone will create something on PSN worth real money, but they should be asked for permission and given recognition if they choose to let Sony use it.

Because they do not need your password to check their system and read all your messages. back at you.

Then it's not my ****ing mail... it's the PSN messages, 2 different things. And yeah, it's kinda like GS, so why don't you also complain about them, uh??

You said they haven't asked for your password; you didn't say password for what. You didn't say anything about your "****ing mail," so the original topic naturally leads readers to assume you're talking about PSN mail. As for GS, I'm talking about the 3 things the Sony agreement stated. If an update was released with bugs and messed up your system, would you not want the problem solved?

lol I just pointed out that GS has the same "right" cuz you're using their service. Same with Sony, they can do it becuse it's their network... if you don't like it, go and be happy with LIVE, will ya??

As for the updates, yeah, I guess It would piss me off, but on the other hand Sony is not forcing me to update my system.

Some of it's pretty stupid, but honestly it shouldn't affect me so I'm not concerned.

This is absolute bull. If an update screws up my system, then they won't do anyting about it??! So, now I have to play russian roulette everytime I get an update?? And to the doofus who said that sony isn't forcing you to update. You do know that you can't do anything if you don't update, right? So you'll be stuck with an old version for the rest of the ps3 lifespan? I might get rid of my ps3. I hope that this bites sony in the ass bigtime.

Well, this doofus usually waits for a couple of days to get those updates. I even made a thread when 2.5 was about to be released to ask if they were going to wait to see if there were any problems with it and EVERYBODY replied they were going to get it ASAP.

Again, Sony is not forcing you to update, at least not "ASAP", so if you were smart you'd wait a bit to see if it's safe or not.

;)

Ah I love this!!

Sony stole the idea for Home from my email. I'm suing for 3 games and a beta of my choosing.

It's not like Sony is going to hire people to specifically read the four-word messages sent from everyone to everyone on PSN. I imagine it will only be used in certain occasions.

The thing about updates and bricked systems is crap, though. I guess we really should all wait a day or two when updates release to make sure it won't kill our PS3's.

Technically they can force you to download things as soon as you sign in...which could then break your system, and then they're not responsible.

The part about the firmware updates is ridiculous. If one of Sony's firmware updates kills someone's console, the scumbags should damn well fix it for free. I seem to remember 2.40 bricked some consoles and Sony offered to repair them for free, I wonder why they've gone back on that.

Yeah Bubble_Man I hear you, the new terms are really just a way for Sony to play Big Brother and cover their asses even if a problem arises that is their fault.... blind fanboys will defend Sony no matter what

And @GreenGoblin2099... you sound like a clown

TC, you know the difference between public association and private associations in terms of law? I guess not. PSN is a private service, thus, they can control whatever they feel they need to control in the boundaries that are the PSN, that means they can control your private messages, much as the goverment controls all the public standard use and phone calls. Only that the goverment does it illegally, and Sony has the law behind them.

As we are currently forced to update the PS3 to the latest FW just to log into the service. BIG DIFFERENCE!

Makes total sense. Every company wants to provide bad products and bad service to it's customers. :|

You can browse the internet without being signed into PSN. Activity tracking was listed specifically for the PSN service.

You dont need to be logged to use the browser. So they cant track it. Its just account relevant information. Which means, things that are part of the PSN. This is most likely because Home is almost ready to be released, and they want to prevent and most likely give authorities a heads up on possible sexual offenders. Or have we all forgotten the pedophiles in XBL? MS had to do a similar thing, and is now applying a more strong censorship to help avoid this situations.
