Blu-Ray DVD, oxymoron anyone?ocelotcougarWell DVD stands for Digital Video Disc, so it's not incorrect, but the format is called Bluray Discs.
I picked up Casino Royale on Blu-Ray and I must say, while the picture quality doesn't blow me away, I'm impressed with the sound. I got the whole big surrond sound home theatre thing happening here, and the Blu-Ray DVD really captured exactly what I was truly looking for when I set this thing up. Anyone else have suggestions for good Blu-Ray DVDs to pick up?SkyCastleDani just have a crap TV so i really can't bring my self to spend 30 bucks on a movie at this point. ohhhhh god i want a HDTV soooo bad!! lucky!!!!!
Ah yes, my apologies. I'm still a newbie to the whole Blu-Ray thing even though I've had a PS3 since launch back in November. A little bit too much RFOM and Motorstorm for my own good maybe?
English Prof: Dan, describe a Chimera to me.
Dan: An Alien creature, no wait! A Russian experiment gone wrong out to take over the world. It's already got all of Asia and now, it only need Britain to take Europe! But Sgt. Nathan Hale and Co. are fighting them off Sir, and we may actually have a chance to survive this threat! I want a Bullseye!
English Prof: O.....K......I was thinking more in terms of a mythical beast, but, uh, if that's what you got out of the poem's description then.....well, thank you for sharing your thoughts with us today. Anyone else?

Thanks Steve Urkel for clearing that up for us!
I have only 5 Blue-Ray movies. Rocky, Ricky Bobby, Casino Royale, Black Hawk Down, and Terminator 2: Judgement Day.
Having T2: Judgement Day on Blue Ray is an awesome thing, it really is.
I am surprised more people don't mention it.
I read somewhere that the Fifth Element is going to be re-released sometime with a much better transfer quality and a lot of special features.InfamousMcool!

And you hardly will see any difference in picture quality in screens smaller than 42in(depending on your visual accuracy, 56in).
I saw Happy Feet on Bluray, and the high def details are incredible.. if you don't believe me check it out yourself here.
I'm also thinking about getting "Relentless Enemies" on Bluray, this one looks incredible.
This is first next gen National Geographic on Bluray.Â

Not true, i watch all my HD DVDS and Blu Rays on a 32" 720p tv, the difference is extremly noticeable and well worth the upgrade. My 250+ collection of dvds now looks so ... bad to me its bad being spoiled by HD movies.[QUOTE="lordxymor"]Well DVD stands for Digital Video Disc, so it's not incorrect, but the format is called Bluray Discs. You can't watch Blu Ray in 720p, the only output resolution is 1080i or 1080p. If you have your PS3 set in 720p, you're actually watching Blu Ray with the resolution of 420p....
The Prestige is a good Blu Ray title to own. I would also recommend Rocky Balboa but if you aren't a Rocky fanboy like me then skip it. :)InfamousM
Rocky Balboa, the movie that I kept away from watching at the movies, big mistake. I just watched that last week and talk about being wrong about a movie. ROCKY BALBOA was awesome. Great movie and good job Stallone on writing, directing and acting. I alse recommend rocky balboa on what ever format.

Actually you are wrong. The correct meaning of DVD is "Digital Versatile Disc". Officially known as the Digital Video Disc, though marketers unofficially refer to it as the Digital Versatile Disc. DVD uses a 5-inch disc with anywhere from 4.5 Gb (single layer, single-sided) to 17 Gb storage capacity (double-layer, double sided). It uses MPEG2 compression to encode 720:480p resolution, full-motion video and Dolby Digital to encode 5.1 channels of discrete audio. The disc can also contain PCM, DTS, and MPEG audio soundtracks and numerous other features. Source: www.hometheatermag.com/glossary/ "DVD, introduced in 1996, was originally known as Digital Video Disc but soon became known as Digital Versatile Disc. It is the next generation of optical disc storage technology. which shares the same overall dimensions of a CD, but have significantly higher capacities - holding from 4 to 28 times as much data. Single sided DVDs can store 4.7GB for single layer and 8.5GB for dual-layer disks. Double sided DVDs can store 9.4GB for single layer and 17GB for dual-layer disks." Nice. Fortunately in my case, I don't need hd-dvd or blu-ray. I can make any solid dvd transfer look as good or better than *take your pick* blu-ray title on a 32-60"+ plasma/lcd in 720p or 1080p. (with many ppl to back up my claim, even you if you saw) So I can care less who wins the format war...if there is a winner.
Oh, and I have the KDS-XBR960. Â

heh me too, well i so have an HDTV but it can only upscale 480p to 540p or 1080i so its not true HD :(
300 will be the ultimate HD movies
So, let me get this straight as a purchaser of the PS3 tomorrow. I have a Sony 42in LCD that native at 720P and a max at 1080i, the PS3's blu ray player will not support the 720P for blu ray?Nemss2880It will not support 720p, but you have max 1080i and it will support 1080i.

If the picture quality doesnt blow you away you need to either adjust your settings or get a better t.v. Because anything in 1080p is amazing even dog muck in a bucket.
The Departed, Not only is it the best movie ever, it has great picture qualityDaAzNJRiCh
I didn't know that one was on bluray.
Incubus, Nine Inch Nails, Happy Feet, Ice Age, Crank, Chicago, Pearl Harbor, Kingdom of Heaven, Open Season, Kung Fu Hustle, Chicken Little...
Those are all the top BD movies when it comes to audio and video..
Pearl Harbor, Incubus, Nine Inch Nails, Chicago, and Pearl Harbor all got 5 out of 5 in the audio at highdefdigest, and 4 or better in video.
Â
Nine Inch Nails, Happy Feet, Ice Age, and Crank are probabley the best looking that i can think of off the top of my head.
Â
avsforum is down right now, but if you google "Bluray Tier System" you will find a good thread that list the best looking bluray movies from best to worst.
