When you buy a PS3(pal version) 259 GB, does a serial number follow with it that you need to activate the console with the first time you boot it up?

You don't need the serial number when first starting up your ps3. Basically its setting up your language, time, and making a user account.

You say that you don't need the serial number when you first boot up the console. Does a serial number comes with the console, because I can't find one on mine and if yes do you have to use it at some point

I of course meant a 250 Gb. Well could someone please answer my latest question? Does a serial code come with the console at all and do you have to use it at some point?

If you have to get your PS3 repaired or have to return it to the store that is when it is used. One of the reasons for serials on consoles was to prevent people from just returning a boxs of rocks like many were doing with the 360 before serials were put on them. It also proves you have actually bought the system rather than stole it when sending it for repair.

There's a serial number on the console in the back next to the Ethernet port. You can use it to register your console through Sony's official site. It's not necessary though, but it won't hurt if you do it.
