I play everything (including KZ) on an SDTV. Works fine. Bigger and sharper is always better, but it can be done on SD with no worries.

yeah mate, you can play any PS3 game in standard def. be warned though, it will make your eyes bleed, and make you wonder if you are playing a PS2, depending on how good your SD TV is.

Why would it be such a painful experience or detract from the game, in your opinion? I know I'm not on the cutting edge, but other than screen-envy, I don't find that my gaming on SD is overly distracting... And nothing ever approaches PS2 qualities, regardless.

Just wondering.

Well mate I know where you are coming from first off all. When I got my first PS3 on release day, I had no HDTV, and it was that way for quite some time. After upgrading to HD the difference was quite alot, but since then I have upgraded again for an even greater difference (my first HD was a cheap one) I have fired up SD games a few times, and used my PS3 on an SD TV, When you are used to HD it is very jaring going back, very.very jaring. When in the position of not having one, it doesnt seem any real difference, but ging back is a different prospect. Having SD games doesnt reduce the gameplay value at all, but having HD makes it more enjoyable, and so going back detracts from my gaming experience, imho. bit of an explanation, hope it made sense.

Were you watching SD channels on your HDTV? Because obviously watching on HDTV wouldn't make much of a difference there. But it's a pretty big difference watching the HD channels, and it can be a rediculous difference when watching a full 1080P blu-ray movie.

When I first bought my PS3 I was playing it most of the time on SDTV, had to "share" an HDTV. After awhile I said screw that and got another HDTV for just my PS3. =)

It really is a massive difference. At first I was trying to tell myself it was no big deal. But now I can instantly tell the difference between an SD broadcast and HD broadcasts. The difference for games is even greater IMO. I replayed a bunch of games that I originally played on my old 32" CRT SDTV, and it was basically like playing them anew...

not sure if i was or not but i'll take your word for it. I know playing video games on it is a big difference. did that at a friends house back when i didn't even have a ps3. Was playing uncharted 2 running around a tank or something. anyway was pretty hammered when i left so i could of been watching anything and not known if it was a hd channel or not. come to think of it did peep ff7 blue ray movie something about a deleted scene in it but i was swaying and sluring during that time lol. I think i was hitting on some fat chick too lol thats when he took me home lol he was like yeah you don't know what your doing anymore hahaha good time tho had a freakin big *** tv wit surround sound kept turning my head like someone was talkin behind me. good times

Try playing Wii on a full-HD TV. Now THAT will make your eyes bleed. On topic: It should work. I used to play PS3 on an SD TV a few years ago and everything went fine. I would consider buying a new TV though, cause it's a lot better with HD.

Yes, but I recommend investing in a HDtv. Can't imagine playing a HD console in standard definition.

Meh. I have played PSOne games ("Dino Crisis", "Driver", "Colony Wars") on my friend's 46" HD for the last week (house sitting), and I don't mind the low-res look. I guess I just tend to look at whether I am enjoying the game over what it looks like... But I'm an old gamer so I can look at pixel-parties like "DOOM" and it doesn't phase me in the least. I kind of feel like younger gamers are puting the blinders on when they gotta have full HD presentation to enjoy a game (you're all missing out on some amazing games if you do), but I grew up with "PONG" and Atari 2600, so I appreciate games from a much different perspective than younger or newer-to-the-hobby gamers.

:P

I'm not saying SD is superior by any means, and I will eventually invest in a nice HD, but I think that gamers who need HD to enjoy a game or they can't play it are crazy and the way they look down their nose at a PS3 on SD is elitist behavior and negativity the community doesn't need. Not everyone has the budget for HD electronics, let-alone the monthly cost of recieving HD programming through a provider.

Recently on The HotSpot podcast, they answered a younger gamer's question about playing "Half-Life", and if the game "holds up today", and their response was "No it doesn't" - which is blasphemy, and completely wrong in my opinion. The game is still great, and a piece of FPS history that every FPS gamer should play. I think it's bad advice to avoid a game based on the presentation via today's standards. That's like saying "Tetris sucks because it's only geometric shapes and not very visually striking". Which is just wrong in so many ways.

All Respect to All Forum Members. I don't mean to flame anyone with my post.

:D

Why do people assume a current gen game won't work on an SD tv? Other than 3D only (never happened yet) and games that have the 60hrz standard (most sd tv's have this requirement but alot of old school tv's dont go this high) any SD tv is fine.

confirmed , i was suprised that it looks OK - better than expected, playing games like FF7 and FF8 on Full HD TV is another story :D
