I still wonder why sony chose Guerilla to make their biggest game this year....
it doesn't make sense, guerilla's first game was a failure and all the hype around it came form the media (supposedly)
Maybe sony did start KZ1's hype...
I'm sure sony started the fire for the media, then kept quiet after expectations weren't met. This time It feels personal though which is why sony has poured so much money into it.I still wonder why sony chose Guerilla to make their biggest game this year....

After watching the CGI trailer (countless time)which, is the developer target graphics... You have to wonder whether or not the PS3 can achieve such a graphics in game-play this early in the 10 years life spend of the PS3?I guess will we find out soon enough.

probably
I think the problem is going to be that no matter how good this game is, non ps3 players are going to bash it. Also no matter how well its liked, because of the price people will say it should have more content. Its really a no win situation for Sony and Guerilla now. They never should have shown that trailer until this year.Dilrod
thats how it works for any game. people will find one or two things wrong with it and bash it. and even if killzone 2 is the best looking game graphically, people would still complain. sony should have shown that trailer ONLY if the game does look like that. although me myself, i dont care if the smoke doesnt look that great, or if somethings are a little lacking compared to it, as long as its within 90% or so of the trailer then i honestly won't care. now if the gameplay sucks, then i will care. but i loved the gameplay in the first one so i dont think i'll be disappointed.
I don't know why anyone would hype Killzone. From a logical stand point it simply doesn't make any sense at all. The first game wasn't any good and the second will probably be worse.
But my biggest question is "why do people still care about Killzone 2?" We have Resistance now, which is superior to Killzone in every single way. Resistance was Insomniac's first try at a shooter and it turned out great, imagine how marvelous the sequel will be after all the experience they had with the first.

Sorry dude, you can't compare a PS3 title to a PS2 title and a yet-to-be unveiled PS3 title. That's like comparing Gears of War to Kill Switch.
Just look at Guerilla's experience. Can you name me one high rated game that they have made?
If they want Killzone 2 to turn out incredible. They need someone else to make it. Not give those morons at Guerilla more employees just so that they can waste even more of Sony's money.

yeah you would think that right. but lets take one of the most popular shooters ever. halo. the first one was amazing. but the second was mediocre. i mean still great game but not halo:CE good. that said i still play halo2 almost everyday for the live. so sequels are always better.

killzone liberation was generally well recieved with high AA or AAA scores. least i think, anywya sony has put to much money into this game for it to flop and im pretty sure when killzone 1 was released sony didnt own guerilla.
Killzone2 it's not hte only reason I'm waiting E3 to come..
(offtopic) when this event (E3) is going to happen? I know it's july but i don't know the exact dates

Why do you think they went from 20 programmers to 120? and increase funds to 20 - 40 mill? Only thing that hold Part 1 back was hardware limitations. It always kills me when people bash Killzone 2 when it hasen't even been released yet. Wait for it to come out before you make any judgement.Mcortijo01
It always kills me when people hype a game and have yet to see a single screenshot of it. It's hilarious really.

I've actually played Kill Switch before and your comparison was spot on. To be on topic, however. Anyone that thinks the original Killzone was a horrible game never truly played it. Guerrilla did their best to make that game better even after it came out. The console restricted that game not the developers. I've played the original now on my PS3 and all of the technical issues, aside from the repetitive Helghast voices, are gone. I attribute that to the hardware. Also, with up scaling that game looks great! My friend actually said that it looked next gen. I thought he was funny. Anyway. Things have changed since Guerrilla first developed KZ 1. Now they are part of the Sony Company, they now have over 150 different people working on the game, and they have spent an enormous amount on the next installment of KZ. Killzone 2 will be a success in my eyes no matter what happens. I believe this because Sony never lets me down. They always deliver.
I'm excited for it WITHOUT having to see any screenshots or videos, not only because there's a HUGE budget and dev team, but because:
-they have an ambitious target render they know they have to come close to, lest the media backlash begin.
-a previous game to help them know what works and what doesn't (gameplay-related, or otherwise) under their belt (so to speak),
-they have the newest advancements in understanding the PS3's hardware (practically a given for such a big title),
-And the uninterrupted time that those 2 years of silence allowed them to work on it (I know they've probably been working on it longer, but as far as the media retraction for it goes) without having to work on demos and what not.
this may be wat the original killzone was originally aspiring to be.
I mean the first KILLZONE wasn't as bad as everyone thinks. It scored a 7.5 on IGN (one of the few sites I trust for reviews) with these closing comments:

You're reading about a straightforward shooter limited by technology. All the hype built up to a decent game presented in an intriguing universe and with a stunning sense of art direction. Ironically though, it's the audio and visual qualities (however faulted they may sometimes be) that save the actual underwhelming gameplay of this one from utter mediocrity.
Now even though playing Killzone is to be bombarded by bugs and glitches and technological inadequacies, the whole experience is definitely worth playing. Before you purchase it expecting Halo to spontaneously combust, just remember the profound words of our ratings guide and its 7.0 descriptor, "Killzone is a good game that has some obvious flaws."

All developers start somewhere. If one game is bad it doesn't mean the next game is bad.
Liberation was a much better game than killzone 1 and killzone 1 wasn't bad, it just had glitches and bad AI. This was all due to hardware limitations. With the PS3, i don't think they have hardware limitations

Yea because your opinion is fact. I loved killzone 1 way better then halo. Yup you heard me right I found it more fun and interesting then halo. And there are people who liked-loved the 1st killzone so you cant say its not good and claim it as fact when others think its great.

Sony saw a lot of potential with Guerilla with after Killzone and that's why they bought Guerilla. Now that Guerilla has a bigger dev team, longer time period, more power, more money and more inside knowledge they have the formula for a better game.

Even though Sony actively denies it, I think they poured all these resources into Guerilla b/c they believe KZ has the potential to steal some of the spotlight from Halo. And the first game was not a failure either, it's average rating was a 7... which is still a game worth playing but every major site's scoring rules. And it sold over 4 million copies.
Add that to the fact that Killzone Liberation was an awesome title for the PSP.... and there is reason to invest in this franchise and for us as consumers to be excited about it.

Exactly. It's funny that EVERY gaming site said the same thing and yet everyone forgets that none of them ever said the game sucked... the ONLY criticisms were for the A.I. and technical issues. A.I. is the only major problem and one that I highly doubt will be relevant this time around. With the dev team being one of the in-house studios now, these guys will be getting just as much support from Sony to master the cell & PS3 architecture as Insomniac did. All of Sony's in-house work is turning out incredible... I don't suspect this will be any different.
Now only if they'd start working on the next Legend of Dragoons.

true
Reason why i hype it is because i loved the first one. Its gameplay was fun, it had some crappy parts, but the parts that were solid, were rock hard. If they pull a motorstorm and make the game 90% like the target trailer, than i will be over joyed.
Also i have HIGH confidence for this game after playing liberation. That game is by far one of the best i ever played, and its just a little handheld game. Also i have even more confidence in the online after playing liberation, liberation showed they have ideas and they are good.
It will be great, and even if people bash it, or it doesnt get a AAA or low AA score, ill still buy it.
