Sony said that the ps3 would be backward compatible. Well I've updated my ps3 to the lastest version to find out that the ps3 cannot play ps2 games due to region restrictions. Is there a way to solve this problem?

Well DVDs (PS2 games) are region locked. Its always been that way. Blu-Ray games are the only games that are not region locked on the PS3.
He doesn't mean region restrictions. He means backwards compatability with PS2 games, his FFX, X-2 aren't working.
Well, you didn't buy you ps3 to play your ps2 games. Besides if you have the games, then you probably have a ps2, to play it, that way you can still have your save files from your memory card.
I can't play ff10, x-2 and jak 3excalibredeadly
so are these games listed with known compatability problems? this isn't a region problem if compatibility is your issue, its an emulation problem. when did you buy your ps3? anyway to tell if it is one without the EE chip? is there a compatibility chart for ps2 games for the ps3's that have the EE chip?
if the games are from another region, this is a region problem and it has been known since before launch cross region ps/ps2 games won't work.
