I own a 40 GB. Got it repaired 2 months ago. For the lens becoming weak. I called that place today, asked them about the fan noise and they said it's natural for some games to draw a lot of power. I play black ops online fine. Fan Never goes into overdrive. I rented La Noire today. First of all, IT'S AMAZING. I'm only sad that I didn't buy it. But the fan noise reached "hairdryer loud" twice. First, it started 15 minutes into the game. And it went on for about 45 minutes. It first blew hot air. then it became cool/cold air. Then 30 minutes after, it came on again. Same with the hot then cold air. Then it stopped in about 15/20 minutes. Now I turned off my console, just want to let it rest. But is it normal for La Noire to do that? My ps3 didn't freeze or anything (knock on wood) it's all working fine. Just the fan noise I'm worried about. Does this happen to any of you Fat/Slim PS3 Owners?

Try cleaning out the air vents, I had that problem with Red Dead Redemption. I blew out the vents and away the noise went.

How do I clean the vents? I use a vacuum hose about 2-3 weeks trying to suck dust from the back vent, the side vent, the vent in the front. But it doesn't seem like it's doing anything. How do you clean the vents?

Canned air. Also, if you're warranty has run out, just open up the ps3 nad clean it out, then put the cover back on. It basically slides off if you just unscrew the screws.

I'm just curious. Do some games make your PS3 work hard? Because I called the place that repaired my PS3. They said they repaired the lens, did something with the thermal or whatever. And they told me "some games make your PS3 work hard, uncharted, red dead redemption, and most likely La Noire." Cause this never happens when I play COD.

I have the fan noise thing too (fat, 40 GB) - but mine has always had it or I am just playing the games that make it come on, I'm not sure which. I do remember the fan running often when I played RDR. I haven't noticed it when I am playing BFBC2. It comes and goes during Resistance 2. When I first got it, I was alarmed about how powerful the noise was, but it seems to be doing great so I'm not worried.... *crosses fingers*

Yeah some games as mentioned above tend to make the system louder. Even my Slim which is usually very quiet goes a bit louder than usual. But it may also be because of the hot weather that has been here for some time now.

Just to give you a heads up dude, I have read a couple of reports that the canned air sometimes can damage the internal hardware, dislodging, etc.

Might want to maybe take a look at that, would hate to see anything happen to your PS3...

Yeah. I'm not doing anything that involves canned air and my PS3 working together. Not using intercoolers or the fan test as well. Haha
