So here's the deal.. I got SFIV finally and the official blutooth headset. I go straight to online (screw arcade mode) and played nearly 100 matches last night and not ONE friggin' person speaks when spoken to. See that's the thing, I challenged several really good players and wanted to just gossip. Maybe get pointers ya know? Nothing!

I'll also add this.. I used to own a 360 and when I had SFII:Hyper and SFII:Turbo folks were talking literally every other match, sometimes 4 out of 5. I feel like I get my money's worth out of it when I hear the reaction from the ones I'm owning online (likewise other way around).

Perhaps I'm overreacting here. I haven't tried the 360 version of this game, but I was thinking damn it's gotta be better than this. Btw I don't buy into all that texture sharpening on 360 for better graphics and all, I really don't give a flip. All I care about is not playing with zombies and/or mute ppl online!

I'm gonna give this game a few more all-nighters and if it doesn't improve, I'm gonna try my best to return it and toss the idea of getting another 360 (for this game) around, which I'd rather not do. This game is so hot I love it, been playing SF since SNES.

Have others ran into the same problem as me? If so, have you tried 360 version with same results? Thanks.

I absolutely agree with you here. More than 50% annoyed me on XBLA. But it's the others out there who carry on good conversations that make this game better IMO. There's nothing like getting advise from pros pulling wild combos and whatnot. Sometimes the annoying ppl are rather fun because they can't stand getting beat. They'll spout out anything and everything and it just tickles me.

Anyone else share this opinion?

with the 360 almost everyone has an headset (comes with the system), it is also just plug and play. On the PS3 you have to go get an headset, then it is not easy to setup. then to top it off some games don't even support voice chat. So most ppl don't even bother using it on the PS3. It is just the way it is on the ps3, sony should bundle an headset with every PS3 then not make is so hard to setup, they need a idiot proof system to get ppl to really use it. the 360 has that.

All the years I spent in the arcades at the SF and MK cabinets and hardly a word spoken beyond "good game". I find most everything spoken over voice chat to be absolutely, positively worthless for game enjoyment and often times actually detracts from the experience.

I don't see why so few people like the arcade. I feel it's more important than the multiplayer content.

I'm happy there's no voice chat. A lot of them are incredibly annoying.

I couldn't care less about voice chat for this type of game. The matches are so short I can't see a decent conversation happening.......and if one did happen you'd lose focus on the game.

That would be the perfect example of when voice chat is beneficial to gameplay. When teamwork is absolutely necessary nothing beats vocal communication....that is if you have teammates grown up enough to positively contribute.

You need to play with actual friends who'll want to talk to you. I think what has happened over time is the people who are largely annoyed by gamers with mics have stopped using them all together, myself included. At about the 100th time I was in a lobby with someone who just broadcast static or their tv in the background, or little kids who won't shut up, or people who talk incessantly in "gangsta" speak or simply act like total a-holes I decided it wasn't worth even bothering anymore. Same was true of XBL in my opinion, only it was worse. I think the problem specifically here though is there aren't many people who simply want to "chat" with someone when they are there to try and kick their ass, know what I mean? Especially since it's a one on one fighting competition. Like I said, if you're playing with people you actually know it's more likely to happen.

"MAJOR TOM TO GROUNDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD CONTROLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL"

"LIVING LA VIDA LOCA MAMBOO NUMBER FIVE"

"I OWNED U U NOOB LEARN TO PICK UP A WEAL GUN"

"OHHHHHHHHHHHH SNAPPPPPP I R SO AWEEESOMEEEEEEEEEEEE"

Seriously are you missing out on that much, for goodness sakes for the price of the headset you could have gotten another game. I on the other hand subscribe to the Chris Rock bullet and gun theory. Make the headsets around a $1,000 that way no one gets one.

Thanks for all the comments.

I see I'm in the minority here. Well, it's understandable for those of you who wish not to be bothered by someone talking. I probably came across wrong (or maybe I didnt?).

I hate to keep bringing up 360 on a PS3 forum but it's all I got to go by for now. What I'm trying to say is.. back when I was playing SFII-Hyper I did get alot of annoyances. However, usually after and ONLY AFTER the match we would both say "good game". It would also more than likely follow with a clean chat. Someone thinks they can challenge me with Zangief? They offer a challenge and they'll want me to pick a particular character to show me some counters.

Some may see this as no value, but I for one had many quality conversations about the game that ended up making me love it.

Allow me to give another example- One time I went into a match and the person I was playing was just standing there jabbing, such a noob. Well, half way in the match I heard the mic on his end stirring around and it turned out the kid's brother told me he'd play me in a minute. I'm glad I didn't quit after that match, because as it turned out I had a good challenge. Had this situation been last light, I would have quit and never had known somebody else would be in the room to play. This happened to me more than once. The ability to hear whom your playing gives you good insight to how good you really are. You dont know if he's 5, 10, 15, or 30, or perhaps female.

Sorry for the ranting in my own thread, but I'm glad I was able to get some replies. I wish Sony would bundle a headset with the system.

I agree with the TC. Though i made the exact same topic which was locked immediatly a few days ago. The microphone is the most useless accessory on the PS3. Its not just

a problem with Street Fighter 4, nearly every online PS3 game seems to suffer from a lack of microphone user support.

Please, don't turn this thread into a PS3 vs 360 because of voice chat. I feel what you're saying but saying that SFII had voice chat on 360 won't help you. SFIV might be a complete different game in terms of chatting. It's not because it was on 360 or not.

Right, which is why in my last statement I asked if the 360 version was the same? If noone speaks on that one then I'll know to stick with this version. I'm not starting a war, I love PS3.

It makes me mad also seeing how many ppl on the ps3 are using voice chat. It is like no can afford a headset. I mean im sure everyone has a bluetooth for their phone they can use. 360 always has a talking community but more @$$ holes.

This is what I don't understand. The way I figured is that PS3 is the most expensive console, hence psn users should be able to afford a headset at the very least. Why not make the best of a high quality product?

One can argue that there wasn't a mic included in the box. However, last I checked it wasn't the stone age. This is 2009! If someone has enough sense to pay for a PS3, bring it home and set it up, and go online.. one would think they should be sporting a headset. If anything, the team-based games would benefit.

There's always that mute button.

So you have a problem because people don't want to talk to you, its simple their not interested in chatting. When playing with friends we chat about nonsense perhaps but I have never found myself chatting about the game in like an arcade with someone I don't know.

Way to generalize! Matches can be 2 minutes or they can be an hour when you play someon your skill level over and over!!! What? You only play somebody one match then turn your PS3 off? Lulz.

Somehow I'm getting the impression that lots of PSN users are mindless robots. It's a shame really, the way Sony has worked on PSN over the years and to finally have a robust service.

Just in case some didn't get the memo.. I said in my OP that NO ONE SPEAKS while playing SFIV. From the time I start the game till I turn the machine off. It's dead. I'm gonna try again tonight.

You sound like the kind of person who makes me enjoy the lack of voice chat. I don't want to play games to be chatting it up with everyone. And that comment about hearing the reactions from the ones you're owning further strengthens my resolve against voice chat.

I see where you are coming from.If the Xbox360 version has it then the PS3 version should have it,whether people use it or not.I usually just send the team or person who actually played a good game.I love doing it,it is a great feeling.

Not everyone has bottomless pockets. You can't just assume or expect PS3 users to be able to afford a PS3, games, and accessories (including BT headsets) in one go. Some have to save up for that stuff, some can buy it straight away but probably don't.

Please don't generalize... I think voice chat makes more sense in certain games than others.. GTAIV for example is fun to play online with voice chat.. esp with your buddys, from the same town, same with sports games.. but to talk with total strangers and yap it up.. I just don't see any point in it personally. If you want to text me.. go ahead, but voice chat just gets akward in alot of games, especially if it's a game that you're really not working together on. Hense why probably no one talks in SFIV.

Probably the latter. I honestly don't see why someone would want to talk to someone during a MMA when they're probably not going to fight each other for a long while, unless they become friends >_>

Your thinking of returning an un-returnable game now that its opened, buying a whole new system, for the exact same experience, so that you can talk to people ... call your friends ... or listen to music ... I'm not saying dont buy the other console, it has some awesome exclusives ... but if thats the reason your gonna buy it ... wow! people never cease to amaze me.

And look for the microphone beside the guys little expression icon in SF4, if you wanna talk or find out if they want to talk.

What's the point of 90 second interactions with people, where most of them will either be kicking and screaming cause your beating them or parading it in your face as they beat you ...

Everyone has taken this the wrong way. I never once said I wanted to just "talk" just to conversate. If you believe chatting is no good in SF then I doubt some of your skills. Sure, you can be good. But if someone were to completely own you.. I garantee that you'd be a much better player should they share tactics with you (which includes speaking). Maybe you just don't take SF that seriously. Well that's fine.

I'm not gonna keep stating the same thing over and over just to have a few more frantic ppl come in here and say talking is for losers in a fighting game and whatnot. My concern wasn't catered to you, but thanks for you interest. Heck, I don't even talk unless I play someone more than once and they seem interested. Even then, I'll just tell em' there good and if they choose to elaborate then it's fine by me.

I couldn't care less about voice chat for this type of game. The matches are so short I can't see a decent conversation happening.......and if one did happen you'd lose focus on the game.Large_Soda
I can agree with that man. I actually don't use my headset because 9 out of 10 matches noone has them. But when I did use it I got destracted because the other guy was trying to talk and I am trying to pull off moves and then I mess up.

They either yell, scream, say "good game", share tactics in a calm manner, engage in random conversation (without loosing concentration on the game), and more.oldskooler79
I can go to the park if I want to hear kids screaming or chat up one of the old ladies that walk.

Why on this green earth would you want voice chat IN A FIGHTING GAME? It would be an epic disaster of trash talk, offensive language and out and out verbal assault this side of CounterStrike.

I have to agree with most of you here, I dislike voice chat in fighting games.

When I play SFIV online, I play like I would in the arcade. I focus on my game and when it's done, congratulate the other player. While games like R2 benefit from the addition of voice chat, a fighting game is more about concentration and being 'in the zone', neither of which I find very easy while using voice chat, even while playing with people I know. If you want to discuss tactics or combos while playing SFIV, you'd be better off just inviting someone over.

I only really use voice chat when playing with friends. Besides that I hate all the trash talk.

Online ranked matches last 90 seconds ... and if you get utterly destroyed their even shorter, how is that enough time to get advice from someone, all they can really say is practice, learn chain combos, force attacks are powerful ... Now searching the web on the other hand will give you a plethora of information on how to get better

If it's people on my friends list (from forums I goto) then I have no problem with using my mic.

Though, playing against random people, I would rather not use my mic because of idiots I don't feel like hearing.

I was annoyed when there was no option for it at all, but now its been patched I'm happy. As stated earlier the games are too short to gossip, so I only chat with friends unless I have something to say. It's just nice to have the option there now.

[QUOTE="Thetaguru"]I absolutely love the lack of voice chat. 95% of people who use voice chat annoy me.oldskooler79

If you want good conversation, get a wife. I really don,t want anyone talking to me.. i don't know you, you don't know me.... don't talk to me...
