I just can't get into it. The opening had me sucked in A LOT. But then the game let me play.....LOU has sh!t for stealth mechanics, and the story takes a huge plunge after the opening and becomes mediocre. I'm not seeing the spectacular game everyone else does.

I'm about 5 hours in, when does it start getting good again?

Don't know what to tell ya dude, I loved every second of it. Played it 3 times. If you don't like it don't play it. I didn't like bioshock for some reason....doesn't mean it was over rated, it means I didn't like it. If you are 5 hours in and don't like it I doubt anything will change your mind.

I agree. The game had a lot going for it, and it was far from being a bad game, but when I finally beat it, I just couldn't see how it got such lavishing scores. It was good, not great.

That is too bad you don't like it I guess..

I had a great time with it. Stealth mechanics worked great for me. I'd just take it slow I guess. Or stop playing it if you don't like it.

You see a lot of these posts about how well received games are overrated and I guess it just proves that gamers like different things. No matter how much I might love a game like The Last of Us (and believe me when I say I do) there will always be someone who disagrees with me and that's okay. I could try and argue why I think TLOU is a masterpiece and why you should play it but you've given it a fair go and didn't like it so there's no point in trying to persuade you otherwise.

We all like games, it just so happens sometimes we like different ones.

Difference of opinions here. That's all there is. I played TLoU to the point of platinuming it and can't wait for the SP DLC in December. It was a terrific game. People find Metal Gear Solid great. I actually got the MGS4 PS3 bundle and traded the game in for something else because I knew I would not like it. It's just not my game. I wouldn't call it overrated tho. Just because you don't like something doesn't mean it is overrated.

Its perfectly fine that you don't like it. There are plenty of games that are supposed to be great that I didn't enjoy. That doesn't mean its overrated however.

But I did think it dragged for a bit and got better. If I was you I would stick with it, but if you don't like it it doesn't really hurt anyone, maybe yourself for missing what is in my opinion game of the year, but if you don't like it move on to your next challenge.

It is quite overrated. It's definitely closer to being a very average game than the spectacular one touted by critics.

My opinion is that this game is one of the greatest games of current generation. That's my opinion. I enjoyed the game greatly, completed it 2-3 times and experienced a wide array of emotions when playing it. I _Could_ go on and on and on, but I'm not gonna. Too bad you didn't enjoy it. People are different. I didn't like Red Dead Redemption...

It's a really good game. Top 5 this gen on ps3 that's for sure.

But me personally, I think Uncharted 2 is more memorable.

Yes I feel it was grossly overrated also. It certainly isn't a bad game, but it was very inconsistent in terms of game play and the narrative was weak and lacking in my opinion. In terms of narrative I felt The Walking Dead (which is very similar in many respects, as in both games the main character has to look after a child) did a far better job. It's not even in my top 10 games of 2013, let alone of the generation. I'll be very disappointed if it wins Game of the Year at the IAA.

Its gameplay is definately ND's best work, Uncharted 2 sucked by the way. And its story was executed faithlessly. and the gameplay mechanics were good against the Human AI and absolutely sh!t against the zombies.

The thing about TLOU is the story, it's a gripping tale, it isn't an overatted game, it's an absolute epic story,

gameplay isn't the greatest, the levels aren't brilliant, the game in it's self is very down one path but i mean do we want every game to be an open world game, there is alot of things they could of done to make it better, but graphics and story it is up there with the best, but like everyone is saying it comes down to what you like

me personally think bioshock is overated i can not of the life of me understand why people like it so much but thats me.

I actually think it might have taken me about 5 hours to really get into the game. After I spent that amount of time on it, I simply stopped playing it. However, after a break consisting of a couple of months I really started enjoying it and now I think it's one of the greatest games I've ever played.

Personally I enjoyed it very much, it will remain in my top 3 best video games of this generation. Each to its own I guess, I strongly don't consider The Last of Us overrated.

I could point out to numerous current franchises that each year bring nothing new to the table and continue to receive strong scores...

That's your opinion, 13 year old's shouldn't be playing this, I see how immature you are right after you write 13 years old you come out with an immature statement.

How isn't it a good story?? It's written very well, a great story of trust and friendship which started off as just another chaperone Job.

More than likely it just went straight over your head and you couldn't a get a grip of a well thought out story and just come out with stupid immature statements because your 13 yourself or close to it or at least your mind is.

Yeah, I agree that it's overrated. It's not even as good as Uncharted 2.

"The story that will shock you, so emotional, you will never look at story-telling the same way again." - Not really

Having a bunch of people shout at each other all the time doesn't make a story good.

Ya, maybe beating a true masterpiece like Dues Ex HR right before, ruined Last of Us for me. I generally like these type of games, where you can stealth or go balls to the wall, but it's just as if something is missing in Last of Us. Dues Ex had everything right, literally. It never missed a beat. The only thing I guess would be that the stealth gameplay is really mediocre compared to Dues Ex. And I generally don't like stealth games where you cannot move the bodies. I know you can drag them before choking them, but its really slow.

Why shouldn't 13 year olds play it? Because your mommy didn't let you play M games when you were 13? There is nothing gripping about it, sorry. Ever heard of a cliche before? The story is riddled with them. 13 year olds wouldn't realize this, but an older audience can tell the difference between shlock (this game's story) and a mature well-told story.

What's the story's theme (or moral)? What did you take away from it?

If it's failed to grip you after 5 hours than I just don't think it's the game for you. I've completed it 3 times and it just keeps getting better with each playthrough.

Characters and voice acting are some of the best I've ever heard in a game. It just draws you in like a great movie and kept me gripped the whole time.

OP: did you try the multiplayer out? I thought it was one of the most unique multiplayers of recent years.

I am having a blast with The Last of Us right now. First, I am very impressed with the difficulty. I died a lot in this game compared to say Uncharted 2 or 3 or God of War games but it isn't so difficult that I get so fed up with game. Even though Joel can carry lot of items, he is nicely balanced where he isn't overly powerful especially with limited bullets. This definitely isn't Nathan Drake going Arnold Schwarzenegger Commando against the infected. The game also did great with the characters (Ellie is actually a good character and not an annoying 14 year old Ellen Page), graphics, environments, all the various enemies, how you can bind items together and do upgrades, "open world" (some people ripped Uncharted 2 and 3 for being so linear... that isn't a problem with TLOU) and I could go on with the positives. I am surprised that anyone can not like the storyline. Does it deserve an OSCAR? No but for a video game storyline, it is great. Is it perfect 10? No. There are some minor gripes and some things may seem a little silly like "Why are there so many scissors and bottles of alcohol around?" and "Why a lead pipe breaks after a couple hits against a couple enemies". I do know why they do it though. When I hear "grossly overrated", I am thinking about someone giving it a 6 score.... I think the game should score a 9-9.5 score out of 10.... The metascore is a 95 out of 100 (98 critics) and a 9.1 user score (4353 ratings).

Just beat the game tonight. Bravo Naughty Dog! Bravo!

The best game that I played in 2012 and 2013. I really loved the last 2 chapters and the story was really awesome. This game is definitely worthy of being made into a blockbuster summer movie.

Watch all the cinematics from beginning to end...... It is a great movie. Far better than World War Z.

I'm about a few hours into it. It's OK. Not blowing me away, but I'm glad I'm experiencing it. It's very hard for me to put my finger on it. I was playing it very long though. I can't explain it because I find myself lost playing it at the same time.

Thanks for not baiting some type of argument lol.

My main gripe is the gameplay itself. I recently beat Dues Ex HR and the stealth combined with the blazing guns gameplay was so perfect in every way possible. DE was the perfect game ever this gen for me. Stealth felt like stealth in DE. Stealth in LoU seems....not complete for some reason. I mean the storyline is actually good in LoU....I just cannot for the life of me get into the gameplay itself. Stealth is the MAJOR flaw in LoU.

I'm thinking Dues Ex HR ruined LoU for me maybe lol.

I couldn't disagree with you more.

I was sucked in from the first second, and it didn't let up through the entire game. I've played the campaign about 6 times now, and i am actually kinda aching to play it again :P

If you are 5 hours in and you aren't liking it so far, then it's a long shot that you'll suddenly start loving it... that being said, the third act was a definate high point for me!!

It's no doubt a fantastic game, very ingenious game mechanics and lots of unique ideas. Is it the end all be all of games? No, and in that way, yes, it is a TAD overrated. But still, it deserves MUCH of the praise it's been given. The attention to detail and passion behind the fluid gameplay is undeniable. The game revolutionized the survival-horror genre which has been on the wayside for many years already. I've only played through it once and don't care to begin again real soon, but I did have a great time with it. I would probably give it a 9/10, but not a 10.

I think it gets better once you get to finally fight human enemies that are in gangs. They actually offer somewhat realistic tactics while the clickers are so sporadic that it often results in painfully boring trial and error due to their poor AI. I also found it really aggravating how Ellie would either get in the way or make a ton of noise, not attract clickers, and then all you do is turn the wrong way and you're dead.

And yes, the story and most side characters aren't anything amazing, which is a shame since the beginning was really setting a nice tone.

Clickers aren't sporadic. They are what they are. They are blind and attack based on sound waves. Crouching or standing still real close to a clicker doesn't automatically guarantee safety and turning does make sound especially if Joel is in shallow water. You need to work on your stealth and move real slowly around clickers...... Clickers kill because the gamer made a mistake.

@ristactionjakso: start playing multiplayer it might help ya and if you manage to complete it try in survivor your hearing aid is disabled and whenever you are about to attack an enemy it will not prompt you to press traingle everything is based on your instincts its a good game but not as good as Uncharted 2
