Hey everyone,

I am barely ever online with my PS3, and I haven't been online for awhile. So, I fire up my PS3 late last week and I decide that I want to check out the PS Store. But, I have to do an update first before I can go online. So, I do the update and the PS3 restarts. I wait. And wait. But it just goes to the start screen where it says "SONY COMPUTER ENTERTAINMENT" and it has that wave background before it loads my own background. It just stays there. My controllers won't even turn on.

So... does anyone know how to fix this? know whats wrong with it? I appreciate anyone who helps me out.

Thank you

P.S. I know there's probably something on the board like this but I don't have the time or patience to go through thousands upon thousands of forum posts.

The PS3 should automatically install the updated version. Did this installation take place and did it finish? If not go to the system updates and see if there is a pending installation. This is the only thing that comes to my mind.

I can't even do anything. The controller doesn't turn on. The PS3 XMB/icon screen doesn't come up. It just stays at this wavy line with a red background. I tried googling my problem but have come back with nothing. Thanks tho. If anyone else could help, I would really appreciate it.

i really don't know, try turning on the console with the controllers, if they don't switch on at all check they are charged. Otherwise i really don't know, i guess the only other thing is to turn on the console with the button on the console, but keep your finger on it until it beeps. That resets it so that might work.

I will try holding the power button when it turns on. But, it doesn't turn on from the controllers, I can only turn it on from the main power button. When I do turn it on though, it barely makes any noise at all. It used to be kinda noisy. Not abnormally noisy or anything. Just loud from the fans and stuff.

you may have to phone a Sony helpline/or email. but maybe your controller has broken if so do you have a second controller to prove this wrong ?

Yes, I do have a 2nd controller. Neither of them connect. Seems I will have to contact Sony.

Try plugging the controllers in with USB. They might be set up to another PS3 if you went to someone's house with them...

Got it working. Held the power button down when I started it up and then restored the PS3 back to default from the menu that came up. Lost all my saves and what not. But have a working PS3 again. Well, back to the ole' drawing board. Thanks to everyone who contributed.

Only thing I can think of is turning the PS3 on at the back then holding the power button until it beeps.

Hope that helps.
