Never played it on PS2 and on the PS3 I've spent most of my gaming time on Oblvion, COD4, Warhawk, Tiger Woods... A ton of others. Well, my son wanted Guitar Hero and now we're both hooked. I started off on easy.. no real problems. I moved up to medium and a few songs were a challange. How the hell do you get to hard? I've seen some wicked vids of some guys on expert and hyperspeed, but for the life of me I can't seem to make the transition from medium to hard. I'm just not getting it. Any suggesions and or tips?

Practice. It will come with time, you will get used to having the orange button. I shift my whole hand up a button when The orange button comes up, or you can just extend your pinky out to hit it.

so ive beaten every song on expert on every guitar hero except for raining blood(GH3) and TTFAF (GH3)

honestly the best advice i can give is practice practice practice.

also there are basically two hand positions for GH. Position 1 is where you index finger is on the green. Position 2 is where the index finger is on the red, get used to position two

also i would recommend you and your son playing against each other on hard difficulty setting on the two player mode, because no matter how bad either of you do, you cant fail the song, trust me me and my friends got together everyday after work and played for around 3 hours and this is how we got to getting 98% on Hangar 18 (Gh2) on expert

the more you play it the better you'll get. keep playing/practicing songs until ur confident enough to shift ur hand up a note to get the orange. it'll come with time, u just gotta want it

i was the exact same way, couldnt play hard for the life of me. but one day i sat down and tried it and i actually beat the song

all i can say is practice, practice, practice.

now i can play on expert pretty well (85-95%), dont worry tho the transition from hard to expert is much easier then medium to hard.

also use your index finger to play green and red then your middle and ring finger to play the rest. avoid the pinky!

i find it always throws me off if i use my pinky

really? i havent run into problems with the old "shift hand up one unit" routine. unless we're talkin songs that are back n forth green-orange-green-orange then i see ur point

well i play on expert and i havnt run into problems with this method. the odd time ill have to throw a pinky move in there for like a chord or a quick hammer-on but for the most part its unused. i just stick to my 3 fingers and im fine :)

My advice is to try a real guitar. If you practice on that you can get way faster and better at Guitar Hero. I could get all the way up to expert by shear practice but it wasn't till after I went back to playing real guitar that I was actually able to change chords quicker without messing up.

is this Shaq? has to be if you can use three fingers lol. I have big hands and its just easier for me because i only have to move my fingers one button instead of two if you only use three fingers

lmao yeah its not hard i like moving my hands fast like that tho

mind you for the odd hammer on/cords ill slap the odd pinky in but thats about it

stick to my main three for the most part its just the easiest for me i find, i dont have big hands either (relatively small) and its works for me

you have to get really good with the buttons, and be able to kind of know where your hands are in relation to the keys at all times. If you've ever played a real guitar it has a lot in common(in terms of knowing hand placement.). You can always do what i did; i played at a party after having a few drinks and immedietly was able to conquer hard mode, which i previously couldnt do.
