So I went into my local resale last night, and I got "Darksiders", which has been on my mind since perusing the advance press for the sequel that's coming out, and I am really enjoying it. I have played all of the GoW games, and yes it's derivative of that series (I like so many others said "Well I've played the GoW series, why do I need this?"), but the voice work and the art is just incredible to me... Much in the same way as I look at "Amalur" and I'm drawn to that game a lot more than "Skyrim", I think I like this game more than I liked the GoW games. The art is just eye-popping, and the gameplay is really great - The one thing I would change is the Dash/ Block on the R1. I'm getting better about leaving the stick centered while blocking, but if I'm in the heat of a fight, I often end up dashing instead of blocking... But it's a minor quibble in a game that otherwise, is making me very happy I spent the $10 (yep, it was that cheap!)

Did you like "Darksiders", and are you as jazzed for the new one as I am now? this could be a dynasty of games much like the GoW series, if they make enough bread and interest to keep going.

Thoughts?

Joe Mad is one of my favorite artists, so I agree with you on the artstyle. And yes, the game was amazing and the second one seems to be better in every aspect. I only wish the second would take off where the first left off though.

The new one looks radical... The expose in Game Informer (BIG article and art spread) make it look phenominal. With this first game, as soon as i saw the angel soldiers in the introductory level, I thought it reflected the art of WarHammer 40K in design, with the big power-armor and such. I can't wait to get back into the game today and see what's coming - I just got to the bit where you're in the grave yard and hunting down the giant red eye thingies for Asul, or whatever... Just after you get the wings for the first time (not a spoiler, right?)

Anyway, I played it until my thumbs started hurting last night (my brawler-button-mash muscles are a little flabby)... But puting the controller down was a real difficulty, and i haven't really had that since I finished "InFAMOUS" the first time. That's the sign of a good, somewhat unique game in my eyes. I wasn't into GoW like that. I could pick it up or put it down, and it got more prevalent as the series went on. I liked the goW games and think they are one of the high watermarks on this gen of Playstation, but "Darksiders" has it's hooks in me more. The colors are so pleasing to my eye... I feel an addiction to playing this character that Kratos never instilled in me.

:D

EDIT: I will admit that GoW's combat is a bit more fluid in chaining combos, and that "Darksiders" is more old-school, but only to a micro-degree.

You can buy it from a store or off psn. If you really like the story, there is a DLC of the game which is pretty fun. You can unlock different stuff for the story mode when completeing it. And there are many endings for the story in each playthrough too.

You can probaby buy it cheaper as a used game.

I didn't care for it at all, made it about 6 hours into it before I just completely gave up. I found the combat to extremely boring and not a whole lot going on. Also, the parts where you can aim anything around suck because the way the cursor works is terrible.

there are tons of repetitive aggrevating moments in that game, one scene where u gotta make your way across this sand field avoiding a giant worm that pops out with no warning for a 1 hit kill, getting past it required luck not skill.. another part even more frusterating in particular is where u gotta use this portal shooting thing u get to make your way up and around a palace your in, controller throwing rage inducingly HARD as F**K! its been years since i played it.. but i remember it was also just... boring.. there is no replay value to be enjoyed whatsoever, and the action sequences were poorly done and not entertaining at all.. it had great sound, great music, super good graphics but imo it was just a really bad game, just aweful..

I actually bought that game for my friend for his birthday for $10. Man that game is so damn good. I was so surprised by it and I highly recommend it. My only problem with the game looks to be alleviated, which was the combat. It wasn't bad (I actually liked it) but it could have been deeper and the dodge/block were bad. Can't wait for Darksiders 2! :D

maz- if u honestly thought those parts weren't hard u are either not human or a gaming god! darksiders had its moments where it shined i'll admit that.. all be it far too few to make it a truly good game, had it focused more on combat rather than mind twisting puzzle headaches it could have, i'll even go as far as to say 'would have' been a really awesome game.. but instead what we got was a bland, stale, repetitive, aggrevating, boring @ss game which put people to sleep, seriously i'm getting tired right now just thinking about that game.. hopefully the upcoming sequel will be what the original should have been.

It's been a long time since I've played that game but I'm like 90% sure the part with the giant worms is just a pattern puzzle. In fact, yeah, I remember that now, they pop up and you just have to wait until they're at the other end and then dash to the next safe place. That wasn't hard at all. The second one was just a puzzle of moving things around. So I'm guessing you're not a fan of puzzles?

@Monkey, personally, I loved the game. There were a few parts that weren't so great, but I won't really say anything. Personally I'd just leave this thread so nothing is spoiled for you as I found the game to have really cool parts you just have to see. I don't expect everyone to like it, but if you're liking it so far well, it just gets better.

Loved the game, the art style was excellent but the superb voice acting, solid gameplay and good Zelda like puzzles were enjoyable as well, can't wait for the second game, Death is approaching. ;)

Agreed with the majority in this thread. Darksiders is one of my favorite games this generation and definetely the most underrated game of 2010. Loved the artstyle, story, puzzles, and gameplay. Great mix of God of War and Zelda styles. Yes, they blatently copied many things from several different games but they pull it off so well that I don't mind.

Nah man, those sections just took patience and timing. Its not a game for everyone, but those that it is meant for like myself enjoyed it thoroughly. you are entitled to not enjoy it. Different stokes for different folks. it also helps I like Joe Mads art and really dug the story line and characters.

Darksiders was one of those games where I thought the demo sucked, yet loved the actual game. I won't be getting D2 on launch day, but when it drops to $30 or so I'll be picking it up.

Got mine for $10us, that's a pretty sweet price for a game that works as well as it does, and has all the other qualities I enjoy like the art and the acting. Sure, there are derivative elements. But I find that happens with a lotta games *koff* CALL OF DUTY and every shooter out there now *koff* ... I think the thing for me, personally, is that a game clicks. That it's not out-right broken *koff* BETHESDA *koff* ... As long as it works, after that it's pretty much down to the player. I remember the guff about "Dante's Inferno" when it released, and everyone made the GoW comparrison, forgetting that Devil May Cry series and several other titles had pre-dated GoW by almost a generation. "Ghost Rider" was a COMPLETE rip-off of GoW, and i had fun with that game - Although, it was a bit jagged in places, admittedly.

I whole-heartedly support the players who didn't like the game, there's no argument for an individual's tastes and they should always be respected. So to that end, I appreciate you talking about what you didn't like, Lotus... And your explaination is a good one. I'm always interested in what didn't work for a game from anyone's perspective... The one thing I hate is when someone says "It Sucked" but doesn't expound on the subject. There's a LOT to be learned from listening to a gamer's opinions.

Sometimes you need to read through the acidic qualities to grab the kernels of truth and fact, but hearing such complaints is important. To me, anyway.

:D

I was able to give my girlfriend's daughter a lot of info on the technical issues of "Skyrim", and how to avoid the pitfalls while enjoying the title, from reading a lot of your posts about the game, and that was very helpful to her (she's approaching the 60hr mark rapidly).

PS - I don't hate CoD or Bethesda, those were just touchstone jokes to make you laugh, everyone. I own CoD & Bethesda games, I won't lie. And, I like them.

Anyway, I hope others keep posting, because I really AM interested in what you all think!

:)

Darksiders was in fact a good surprise. I really enjoyed it for what it was. Better then GoW? Hell no. A great game? Absolutely. Darksiders II is one of my most anticipated games this year. I dont know... theres just somethin so badass about the series and all the mythology surrounding it that makes it to me one of the best series this gen even though the gameplay is really nothing special at all. I guess its the badass comic book style that made me apreciate it

Summer would be a fantastic time to release the sequel... It's definitely on my "To Buy" list! Glad we share the same views on the first one, Joker.

:D

I'm almost done with the four challenge stages, having a bit of difficulty getting the last one (30 Instant-Kills), but gonna work on that this afternoon when I get back to my console. I'm sure it can be done. I really love the art. It just takes the game over the top for me. I was reading the GI cover story on DS2 again, and I can't wait to see where this goes, It would be phenominal if they could get all four horsemen's stories done eventually.

Actually I think DS2 won't be out til december. It sucks to wait so long for it. At first I was kind of bummed they werent going to continue the story of War after the epic ending but looking at how DS2 is shaping up, im interested to see how Death fares, and how they tie it into the first game and setup DS3.

I loved the Darksiders game. I still have to finish I am currently stuck on a boss battle. But this is a great game. I cannot wait until darksiders 2. Which will be a Launch title for Wii U. But I stick with The Playstation 3 version. Darksiders is one of those sleeper hit games on PS3.

You will like it, I thought the gameplay and sense of style was very engaging with this game. I enjoyed the story and the Atmoshere of Darksiders.

I've gotten quite a ways into the game now, and the more it opens, the cooler it gets. I can see where "repetitive" and "hard-as-nails" might be leveled at the game, but I'm still loving it. So my question is now this:

Am I playing "Dante's Inferno" after this?

:D

I know these games are God of War via Devil May Cry, but I feel like I found a real hidden gem on the system. I know "Dante's" got fair reviews (as did "Darksiders", of course)... Anyone testify on behalf of "Dante's", who's played "Darksiders" through? This game has got me all revved up to play this kind of actioner, lately, and I'm almost finished.

PS - Is there any replay value to "Darksiders" on harder difficulty (playing it through on "Normal" now)?

Thanks, everyone... This is a real find.

Thoughts?

I liked Darksiders when I first played it upon its release a coupleof years ago, but didn't find it great. However, with the second one naturally taking my interest, I decided to get Darksiders cheap, and enjoyed my second playthrough more than my first. Overall I rate it 8/10.
