I bought Uncharted:Drake's Fortune last week because it was cheaper and I didn't want COD:WAW.

The only problem is that I finished it on normal mode in like 10 hours. In fact, COD4 was really short aswell but the multiplayer made up for it.

Don't get me wrong I think these games had great stories but I just feel they were a bit too short. What do you guys think?

Cheers.8)

Well, it depends on the Games you play. There are Games like Disgaea 3, Oblivion or Fallout 3 where you can easely invest 100erts of hours :S

It depends on what difficulty you play... I heard Gears 2 could be completed in 8 hours on Casual. I played it on Hardcore and managed about 12 hours... If you play a game on easier difficulties, your surely gonna finish it faster than harder modes...

Its $30 now right? Thats $3 an hour...what else can you do for $3 an hour? and thats only considering your finish it only once and never play it again...

i steamed through COD:W@W in like 5 hours on normal difficulty. its a good job that unlocked the awesome zombie mode or I would have been really p!ssed. i agree it is rubbish how many games coming out these days are really short. but i guess it does really depend on what type of game you're playing. RPGs are historically lengthier than FPS's, and developers conform to these unseen conventions. Short sharp intense blast on an FPS, long involving and emotional journey through an RPG. i like a bit of both

I'm usually happy with anything inbetween 10-20 hours these days. Anything longer that isn't open world tends to drag before the end. Shorter games are usually easier to replay, while longer titles require a bit more effort to get back into.

How about the length of several old games (mario, sonic, etc), they were much less than 10 hours

Hell, I've seen mario games completed in much less than an hour .

QFT, especially considering WAW is a rehash of cod4, its more like an expansion pack.

I think the length of games are perfect for those games .. any longer and it would feel repetitive ..

That's what online is for ..

But hey that's just my opinion .. :P

I read the reviews for games if it's shorter then 20 hours I usualy just rent them unles the game has multiplayer. I rented Uncharted for $7 for 5 days I beat it in 3. I got my moneys worth out of it. Same with Heavenly Sword these games are ultamate rentals. I'm not spending $60 on a game that I can beat in 3 days it's a waste of money.

True. I finished Condemned 2 and Dark Sector in two days each. It was fun, but I wouldn't play them again so renting them was good enough. Depends on the kind of gamer you are. Some people love to play games several times.

But the challange in those games made up for the length, or added to it. Those game could not be beat on a first try in under 20 hours in most cases. They also did not have much memory then either.

You don't get everything out of a game on the first playthrough. I remember playing Disgaea 1 which takes around 40+ hours and I have replayed that game starting from scratch like 5 times.

There's plenty of lengthy games on the PS3, but Uncharted and COD aren't some of them.

The gaming industry has gone the way of Hollywood offering more flash than substance and we keep begging for it. More graphics we cry! Better online! Mo one cries: Better sub plots!

We're idiots.

It depends on the game. You would expect COD4 to be long, but it wasn't, its actually a online based game. Assassin's Creed was short , but it was suppoesed to be - can;t wait till AC2 come out. I was a little disappointed with Heavenly Sword, but nothing is better than a game that keeps you wanting more.

You know, there is absolutely nothing wrong with playing a game over again.

If the game was good you would want to play it all the time.

That is the problem with games today.  Its not that they are short, its just that they are bad.  Everything mentioned in this thread is an example (Call of Duty, Resistance, Uncharted, Heavely Sword).

I wouldn't want to play them again either.

i've played uncharted through countless times...people wanting it to be longer would just have made the pace slack and would ruin it. The game is so well made that it can be played countless times....

I agree, the last thing you want in games are artificial filler levels that lengthen the game just so you can say that "IT CLOCKS IN AT OVER 100 HOURS OH MY GOD!!!".

Games of last gen averaged 8-10 hours. Depends on how much time you devote and how far you keep playing (unlockables, difficulty, trophies..).

So its on the greatest hits list? I haven't heard it has been, but if it is, I'll think about it.For the record though, I don't calculate how much an hour of gameplay would cost, I go for a what it has to offer including the story as a whole.

Action games are generally short since I can remember; Jak games, Ratchet, Klonoa, Sonic, Mario, Shadow of the Colossus, Ico, Prince of Persia, Spyro, Crash Bandicoot. Only one I think was amazingly long was Okami. Any game RPGish was always at least 25 hours.

I think the TC is talking about just the story.

Game length depends on the genre but I agree that games today are shorter.

I hate it when I beat the game (just the story) in less than 10 days. I normally play 2 hours a day, as much as possible I want game to last at least 20 hours.

My favorite game length is Okami. :)I really like long games because I rarely replay games.
