You can say these are still violent but, you can give Deus EX: Human Revolution a try, it's a stealth game. You have the option to kill or to simply stun opponents and the majority of people take the stealth route and play the whole game without killing anyone, which I did and loved it, and it's also a really great game with great art design, incredible music, fantastic atmospheres, plus it was nice playing something that didn't require murdering to be honest...and it makes you think because if you have a room full of 20 bad guys you have to choose your route, who your going to stun first, who next while avoiding being spotted.
Then there's the batman games, batman doesn't kill anyone so that's another option. Both are absolutely amazing games and yes there's combat, but it seems that your main concern is killing...which you don't have to do in both batman games. It's an adventure game, great stories, plus you'll have to use your brain to solve the Riddlers riddles.
Like others have suggested theres Portal, there are always sports games...SSX snowboarding just came out, which is getting great reviews.
3D dot game heroes, you kill, but it's like zelda games.
PSN has a lot of side scroller games like mario that don't require killing, can't think of any off the top of my head but a quick google search will help you out.
Little Big Planet games are very fun.
Racing games are another option, games like Driver: San Fransico have a sense of adventure to them I think since it's somewhat story based.
Anyway, point being is that there are a tonne of games out there that are adventurous, fun, and don't require killing/aren't overly violent.
limbo is a sidescroller and has some platforming elements like mario, but its also a brisk puzzle game. its one of my favorite games, so id highly recommend it.
braid is also a platforming puzzle game, but it has a much more deliberate pace. its a puzzle game where you *shock* actually stop and think. its also really good.
everyday shooter doesnt appear to have anything youre looking for at first glance. while it is a shooter (like asteroids rather than CoD), there is no violence to speak of. the things you shoot are so abstract visually that its hard to feel like youre killing anything. on top of that, youre creating musical harmonies as you shoot rather than destruction. and while its definitely not a puzzle game, you do have to figure out different combo systems to create more and get a higher score.
PLay portal right now!
also rayman origins or braid.
or limbo it hasno combat but still a very mature game i think
Civilization Revolutions
And there's a new game coming out soon for PS3 called "Order Up!" some kind of restaurant tycoon game.
