ok, I need help finding a good TV used mostly for gaming. I want it to be:

32 inches or bigger
A good brand name (ie Sony, Panasonic, Samsung)
Less than $1000
1080p
Refresh rate of 120hz

Here are some of the ones I had in mind

http://www.amazon.com/Sony-BRAVIA-KDL-40V5100-40-Inch-1080p/dp/B001T9N0DU/ref=sr_1_19?ie=UTF8&s=tv&qid=1269915769&sr=1-19 I've got the 46" version, and at $760, this thing is a steal. The colors are good, and the blacks are really dark. The screen is also a middle ground between glossy and matte, and I like it. The sound quality is also good compared to similar TV's. If you've got the slim, you also get a few bonuses when you connect it to a Sony TV with an HDMI cable.

The bonus is that you can enable Bravia Sync. When you turn on your PS3, it will automatically turn on the TV and change it to the correct channel. When you turn off the TV, the PS3 will turn off too. And finally, you can control your PS3 XMB and and DVD's and BluRays that you are watching with the TV remote. Pretty neat feature if you ask me. Kinda makes me want a Slim lol. Still, even without the Sync feature, that TV is well worth it IMO.

The best value TV's are Panasonic where as the best are Sony. If you have a budget then go for a Panasonic one.

I got a 42" Panasonic Viera Plasma 720p right around Xmas for $497. Id like to have a 1080p set, but for under $500 I couldn't resist. Besides right now, there isnt a real compelling reason to have a TV capable of 1080p as there are so few games or cable/dish channels that show in that resolution. The only reason to have 1080p is if you are a rabid BluRay fan!

i just replaced my $3000 samsung 50in led projejection with a 46in 1080p panasonic plasma. i got the plasma at walmart $648 im very happy with it. my $3000 samsungs light tunnle collapsed last week 2 months after warranty expired and found out theres a class action lawsuit over it. i called samsung they treated me like crap. ive boughten over $5000 worth of samsung tvs and after the way they treated me and many others. i well never purchase another1 of there tvs again. and before you people say my tv was out of warranty people. on forums people are saying samsung isnt even fixing these model tvs even if there under warranty.

i just saw a Sony Bravia/1080P/60hz 40" lcd for $670. i know it's only 60hz, but it's still a really good price. if you wait a little longer for LED's to start dropping in price i'm sure that the tv specs that you posted will drop in price quite a bit. give it half a year or so.

Here you go, sir:

Sony BRAVIA 46" 120hz 1080p LCD HDTV - $989
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Sony+-+BRAVIA+46%22+Cla.ss+/+1080p+/+120Hz+/+LCD+HDTV/9763279.p?id=1218169465735&skuId=9763279

(Won't allow the link due to a certain word)(copy the above link and delete the period in the highlighted word)

I compared it to a very similar Samsung 46" at the same price. The BRAVIA has more inputs as well as more features. The Samsung didn't have any composite or component inputs. The Sony has 2 of each. :)

In general though, go by this rule of thumb. As far as the HDTV industry is concerned, THESE are the best brands at their respective projection type:

  • Plasma: Pioneer
  • LCD / LED: Samsung, Sharp AQUOS series
  • DLP: Mitsubishi

Sony's stuff is great too, it's just typically overpriced in comparison to similar brands. In this case though, it's a great buy.

Sony is the way to go. Right now they are releasing their new TVs for the year. So you can find last years models really cheap. Just search for them. Trust me in terms of picture quality sony is the way to go. Its also the best way to prevent any HDCP issues with your ps3. Samsungs have this problem a lot. I myself have a Sony 40 inch XBR 7 and XBR 9.
