So I'm on the hunt for an RPG. I've been looking at Resonance of Fate, Tales of Symphonia (on Gamecube), and possibly Mass Effect. I just want solid gameplay that won't get stale and a good story. What do you recommend?

Kingdom of Amalur is pretty good.

Try out Nier. It's pretty cool.

Dark Souls is awesome. It's been 5 months and I still haven't finished it. It's by far one of the best games this generation.

Agreed. It's not as addictive / gripping as Skyrim in my opinion, but maybe this has its perks - I've been on and off it, and haven't completed it yet. There's many, many side quests.

If you're looking for a challenge: get demon's souls. Otherwise get kingdoms of amalur.

Out of the 3 I'd go with Mass Effect (2/3).

The Mass Effect games were good, as were the Souls games. Dragon Age: Origins was also a great game.

Dragon Age Origins isn't bad if you can find it cheap. It gets pretty repetitive though. But yeah depends on what you're looking for OP.

Challenge: Dark Souls

No Story/Kill stuff: Amalur

LET's GO TO SPACE: Mass Effect 2/3

I don't think Mass Effect games besides the first one are RPG heavy though.

If your looking for something awesome I'd suggest Mass Effect. But another good RPG is Final Fantasy XIII.

Oblivion, Mass Effect 2, Fallout 3, New Vegas, maybe Kingdoms of Amular. I don't know much in the JRPG department, but apparently Dark Souls is pretty good.

Demon's Souls has a very simple and straightforward plot but the atmosphere and the feeling of loneliness and despair absorb absorb you so fast that you wont have time to wonder until the end

it depends what kinda of rpg you want if you want something very action packed with light rpg elements but a good story then mass effect or the yakuza games are great for that. the fallout games or elder scroll games are great rpgs but a bit lacking on overall story. and if you like jrpgs then anything by nis is good

If you haven't gotten it yet, you can find the first Dragon Age and the expansion pack bundle for $16. A good value.

Tales of Grace F are good choice , or wait for Xenoblade and the Last Story to release in US if you have Wii .

If you have no matter with outdated games , you should try PSOne games on PSN , like FF 7 , 8 , 9 , Chrono Trigger and planty other great rpg there .

+1 for Kingdoms of Amalur

for older games, Enchanted arms is an average turn based JRPG with some strategy in batle for placing the characters, Marvel ultimate alliance (not #2 as they stripped almost all RPG elements) is an action RPG

Tales of Graces is a good game and if it sells good Tales of Xillia should soon come over stateside. * crossing my fingers* Hmm the Yakuza games are good. Great story. Stay away from Yakuza Dead Souls though. Wait until that one goes into the bargain bin. Big fan of Yakuza but the gunplay looks outdated. I rather be b@#$%slapping the zombies with my fist!
