If he likes RPG's then Skyrim for sure he could get so much out of it and it should be fine on PS3 since patch 1.4 is already out.
Hiya everyone, I'd like some tips for good games I could buy for my boyfriend for valentines day. Seeing how I just started playing myself, my knowledge about what games can be found out there is limited. I thought maybe some of you could give me some examples based on the games he recently played, and what he thought of them. I've tried looking up some games myself, but as I said, I am a complete noob and have no idea where or what to look for. Red Dead Redemption - we both enjoyed this game, actually this is one of the few games he really loved. Dirt 3 - Yeah, he loves cars, and it's a pretty neat game, although really boring to watch in the long run. GTA IV - I think he enjoyed the older games more, but he generally likes games with a lot of missions (and trophies). Also the reason he liked RDR, I think. Dragon Quest - The Journey of the Cursed King - he does enjoy rpgs like these, but he hasn't gotten any more of them in a long time. Being the one who sits beside him and watches a lot of the time, these are the kind of games I like to watch along with. He has also played a few FF games, but he doesn't really enjoy them, I think. Boo. What I'm looking for is probably a game similar to Red Dead Redemption or something rpg-ish. We only have PS2 and PS3, and while the game doesn't need to be newly released, I think he would enjoy playing a game with awesome graphics. Thanks for helping!ohrusty
If he enjoys dungeons and dragon-ish RPGs such as Dragon Quest, I'd say Dragon Age: Origins is a possibility, though it's not exactly like Dragon Quest, few games are anymore. Maybe Skyrim actually. Big game with lots of missions and its in a fantasy time period. And overall, it's just a really good game.
If you likes GTAIV then I'd suggest Saints Row: The Third. Kind of like GTA, but a lot more goofy and over the top.
"LA Noire" is a game that you will enjoy watching along as he plays, it's very story-driven with action, interrogation of suspects & witnesses, and it's done in a very cinematic way so you'll enjoy watching as much as he does playing.
"Enslaved: Odyssey to the West", and "MAFIA II" are also engrossing story-driven games...
... You might even be interested in playing yourself!
But those are three off the top of my head which would be fun for both of you.
He might like the Yakuza games if he's into crime games like Grand Theft Auto. It's a little different because the gameplay is more RPG-like, but there's a LOT to do in the games like sub stories, shopping, and mini games.
Dark Souls. Uncharted 1-3. Batman AC. Skyrim.
You should convince him to sign up here and start adding games to a wish list. My wife has no questions about what games I want because all she has to do is look at my games lists.

Effenay! What a great idea. (Absolutley NO sarcasm) Why didn't I think of that?
:)
Also Deus Ex is an rpg shooter, stealth type game. Great Story.ez_moneymakerYes Deus Ex is amazing :D
If he'ss into UFC there's a new game coming out on Valentines Day - UFC 3.
It's gotten really good reviews.
I looked at the review for Yakuza 3, and it seemed really cool. We both have a long time crush for japanese culture, so this would be cool to play together, seeing how we can both relate to the environment (plus I even used to live in Tokyo). Would it be okay to start playing the third game in the series though? Even though it provides flashbacks from previous games, do you wtill recommend he should play them in chronological order? ---- Edit Oh! I just realised there's a Yakuza 4. And something called Dead Souls coming out in March? So many games!ohrusty
Spoken like a gamer... You need to pick up the controller, you're a natural.
:)
I don't think it's terribly important to play all of the "Yakuza" games in order, they're fairly stand-alone in story. Certainly, you & he would have a more depthy appreciation for the evolution of the series, but I think it would be alright to start with #3 (the others were on PS2, and unless you have a much older console, there's no backward compatibility on the console you own, so you two would have to use a PS2 to play those first games).
The "Dead Souls" part of "Yakuza 4" is similar to RDR "Nightmare"; Zombies infiltrating the "Yakuza" universe. Yeah, just can't seem to shake the whole Zombie Thing... It's the latest in a long line of unwelcome developer idiocy, in my opinion.
"Enslaved" is actually what I would call a good gateway game, for gamers who might not be as saavy as some others yet. The platforming is simple, and the mechanics are spoon-fed, so there's an easy adjustment curve to what they teach you how to do, and the characters are as wonderful as the acting & graphics. You'll really grow to like them, and their relationship as you explore an Earth re-captured by nature (and some un-natural things, too). I think with your BF coaching you in a few spots, this would make a great game for you to play, instead of watch.
;)
Think about it.
Wow, thanks for all your help! I've looked through some reviews of the games, and so far I've found a few. Heavy Rain - I looked at a trailer of this game before it came out, and I really liked it then. Watching the review, it seems even cooler than I thought it would be. I really like how the game differs your experience depending on what choices you make, and I think this is something that would be very intriguing for both player and watcher. LA Noire - Being the same makers as that of GTA and Red Dead Redemption (Rockstars, right?), I think this would be a good game to choose as well... Although he got so frustrated with GTA IV, I don't know if it will be appreciated since the shooting experience seems to be the same as in GTA (which was what he didn't like). Resident Evil 5 - He actually told me a few weeks ago he wanted to play this game, but... I don't know if I feel like watching another Resident Evil game so soon after the special edition of RDR, the zombie part. And although I really loved the first RD, I think I'll let him buy this game for himself if he wants to play it. We just started buying games for eachother, trying to choose something that we think the other person would like playing, but not necessarily the game we -say- outright we want to play.ohrusty
I was just about to recommend this game. I think you should reconsider. My wife is a very casual gamer and this is a game we endlessly play together. She is usually the one asking me to stay up for just one more level. It's awesome to play co-op and the only game we've ever gone through to beat more than once. We are currently playing it on the Professional (hardest) difficulty which I think is crazy considering my wife is a Sims kind of person. She keeps wanting to play on harder levels and get farther. It's definitely a bonding game for relationships, if you enjoy gaming together, even casually.
You both would probably like Fallout 3 but DO NOT get GOTY as the game falls apart on the ps3 with the dlc added. If he had a half decent PC, goty is worth getting for that as there are mods that get it working. My wife really enjoyed that game; both watching me play and playing through the whole thing herself.
Also avoid Fallout New Vegas because even without the DLC, that game is a complete mess on the ps3.
Of course there are games I would like for him to play, but unfortunately ones I don't think he would appreciate. Enslaved: Odyssey to the West for example seems amazing. It seems a bit too advanced/hard for me to play though, but maybe I'll play it when I've gotten a bit better at playing in general. So many games! ohrusty
Yakuza 3 does have story trailers that help explain about the plot of Yakuza 1 and 2 so that you can understand what's going on in the game better. Before playing the game I recommend watching both videos, they're kind of long but they give you an idea of who the characters are and what's going on in the story.
One thing I have to warn you about is that some of the content from the Japanese version of Yakuza 3 was left out in the US version of the game, namely a Japanese history trivia game and the hostess clubs. What really sucks is that the hostess clubs can still be entered but you can't do anything with them except ask the employees about local bars in the area. On the bright side you can still go on dates with most of the girls, but instead of meeting them at the clubs you meet them at the burger and ice cream shops instead. Some fans see this as a good thing because you don't have to buy them expensive gifts or choose the right pick-up lines first.
