I was looking to buy a ps3 at bestbuy, and wanted to get an extended warranty. I was wondering how does their warranties work? Like do they give you a new console if you are having problems with your current one?

By the way i tried calling them, but was unable to get through on the phone.

lol, I tried calling 4 Best Buys today because I had a question about a PS3 sale, and NO ONE answered. They do not typically replace it right away (I think they do if it is only x number of days old). I think they try and fix it first and if it breaks a few times for the same problem then they give you a new one. But you should ask before comitting to the warrenty...it is not cheap.

Just go buy it and ask about the warranty. You ARE gonna buy it anyway, right?

My guess is bring 100$ bucks extra with you. If it's anymore I personally wouldn't take it. There arent much techincal problems with the PS3. I'm thinking it'll be 60$? But bring 100$ in case.

I am canadian so I am giving you canadian prices:

$70 for 2 years and $90 for 3 years

Now here is the rip-off. It is not 2-3 years of EXTRA warrenty. It is 2 years total. So it occursin conjunction with the SOny warrenty, however long that is

So it's technically a 1 year / 2 year warranty. My guess was almost spot on =D!

Just to let you all know about my experience with Best Buy warranties-they are awesome. I do not have the ps3, I have a 360, but they work the same way for both. Be sure to ask for the "Product REPLACEMENT Warranty" not the "Product REPAIR Warranty". The way that it has worked for me (3 times in fact) is that I have called ahead to my nearest store and told them I am returning a defective xbox and I have the replacement warranty. Each time I got to the store a new xbox was waiting for me and I only had to sign the receipt. The way that the warranty works is that ps3 and xbox have a 1 year warranty on their systems and when you buy the best buy warranty it takes precedent over the ps3 or xbox warranty and best buy will simply give you a new unit off the shelf. However, if you were to buy a ps3 today, in 2009 with the 2 year replacement warranty and you were to have it break in a year you would get a new one for free. Likewise if it breaks again in 2010 you would get a new one. However, if it breaks in 2011 you will need to make sure to renew the warranty before it expires (my warranty for the 360 was 50 bucks) and then you can get a new one again, and so on. Just make sure to always renew the warranty before it expires. But, dont think that you are going to have to pay to renew it for each new system you get. You ONLY renew when your original warranty expires (2 or 3 years from when you purchased it) the warranty is not renewed with each unit, its a stand-alone warranty.

Hope this helps!

Don

i work at best buy in nashville, if you buy the ps3 warranty, you will usually get it replaced. i have replaced about 2 ps3 when i worked at customer service. We just do a functionality check butsometimes we pass on that, n then we get a new box and just replace the hardware out of the new box with your defective ps3.
