I have had my ps3 60 gig ps3 for about a year now and some times when i am playing all of a sudden it reves up the fan and starts making a lot of noise, and then in about a half an hour gets back down and then starts all over again, now my friends ps3 isn't that loud and its really annoying because when i am watching a movie late at night and i have to keep the volume down i cant hear anything cuz all i hear is the fan of the ps3.

I keep it in a horizontal position

There is nothing in front of or to the left of or to the right of it for at least 3 foot, The receiver is behind it but it still has room to breath SO whats the matter, is this normal or what, and sometimes when i put in a game in the ps3 it makes noise like i can actually hear the disk spinning, is there a way i can fix this.

Interesting. I've had the 60GB since release day and haven't had any problems like that.

Mine will do that after playing for a long time, but it usually stops after I turn it off for awhile...

I have a 40GB PS3 and it does the same thing. I think it just means it's starting to heat up. Laptops do the same thing after a while, and it doesn't mean they need repair.

I use to have my PS3 standing up before I move in to my new place but now i keep it in a horizontal position. I first month i made noise in the horizontal position but now it doesn't. make sure it real flat if your place is at a tilt you may want to stand it up O.o . . . back and front parallel to the tilt anyway don't worry the system is very heavy and stable just don't have people walking around the wires that are connected to the system. If its still happening I would have to say you are SOL. But you should try vacuuming your vents on the PS3 1st...pg8 of the manual http://www.us.playstation.com/support/manuals/ps3
