Yes, everyone hates Madcatz. Well I would too, but unfortunately I can't work it, to hate it. See I bought my PS3 along with this Battery Operated Controller at Christmas time. I only decided to get it out now. I put new batteries, because the old ones probably drained. I pressed on and the hom ebutton, LED's flash then go dead.

I have seen the FAQ at the MadCatz website, seemingly you have to have this USB receiver! I mean I don't think it ever had one in the box.

(or I just mislayed it, but I NEVER mislay things).

Solutions? Or is it just a problem that won't fix?

Well, if the controllner needs a receiver and you don't have one then it looks like you have choices.

1. Buy a receiver.
2. Buy a new controller.

If I'm thinking of the right controller the receiver should have been in the box. Chances are you're going to have problems finding just the receiver, though.

The MadCatz controllers use 2.4ghz wireless instead of Bluetooth, so you need the receiver or you're just out of luck. It's about the size of a USB thumb drive. Some places selling them used have been selling them without the USB adapter, so people looking for an aftermarket used controller should beware.
