Yeah, this is probably opening one huge and ugly can of worms for a variety of reasons, but I'm takin' the chance anyway. Mass Effect is the only XBox, PC exclusive game that I really want to play, but my PC can't run it and one game isn't really enough of a reason to buy and XBox sooooo....

I was just wondering if anyone has heard or read anything that indicates there might eventually bea PS3 version of Mass Effect forthcoming. I figure they did it with Bioshock since it was popular enough and since ME was no slouch in the popularity department, it might deserve the same treatment.

Any info would be helpful and as usual if you feel like flaming me for whatever reason, just keep moving, I don't care how much you hate XBox exclusive games.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Last time I heard a PS3 version of Mass Effect 2 hasn't been confirmed OR denied. That's the only hope we have.

No it hasn't! I'd like some proof, please.... I mean, that'd be awesome if you're right, but I've heard exactly the opposite. Besides if that happened... We'd have heard about it by now!

Hasn't been confirmed. It would be cool if they released ME1 and 2 on a single disc for PS3, but sadly it probably won't happen as MS published the first. I don't see how they would put the second on the PS3 without the first because some huge story elements in number 2 are based on decisions made in the first game. I hope they find a way, this is going to be a phenomenal game that everyone should enjoy. The first had the best story this gen.

once bioware got gobbled up, i heard something along the lines of "mass effect is an xbox series". it was a while ago,so i guess i could see a change of heart with the current economy and publishers reflecting on their business responsibilities.

i wouldnt get my hopes up though. your best bet to play mass effect is to buy a 360 or upgrade your pc (probably a better investment if you arent interested in any other 360 exclusives since you will use your pc for more than just mass effect).

I read a while ago that ME2 will be a timed exclusive for 360, don't know how accurate that is. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Instead of buying a 360 for those few core games you can't play on PS3, just upgrade your PC with a $150 video card and $50 worth of memory.

If you have a slightly above average computer and a PS3 you'll be able to play 95% of the good games that are out on the market.

Minimum System Requirements for Mass Effect on the PC

Hard Drive Space:
12 Gigabytes

Sound Card:
DirectX 9.0c compatible sound card and drivers

Nothing's been confirmed yet but my guess it that Mass Effect 2 will release on the PS3 some time after the other two versions. With a ME 1 port some time before that. Being published by Microsoft didn't stop Ninja Gaiden 2 from jumping ship.

for now its not on ps3, i heard there was thinking about it but i don't know, its just because they said multiplatform and the fact EA brought the company people instantly think 360, ps3, you never know it might but yeah don't think much of it for now.

I definitely hope it follows the road of the Ninja Gaiden series. With all the messy DRM on PC games these days, I'd rather play them on console and save myself the headache. Since I don't have an 360, I hope we get a PS3 version sometime in the near future.

I wouldn't want ME2 without ME1 anyway because the decisions you made in part 1 will carry over. Yay for that. Time to replay without killing everybody.

Well unfortunately PS3 probably won't get ME2 (or ME1 for that matter) so there's either 1 of 2 things to do.

Wishing it was on PS3 isn't going to solve your issue so I gave the best possible suggestion.

Yes there is the DRM issue. Just like Bioshock on PC it has a limited number of installations before you are forced to contact the company and ask for allowance to install again after those installations are finished. Considering the massive amount of uproaring fanboys that got pissed about this, the company is being very lenient about giving more installations as necessary via PC.

And honestly, how many times will you install the same game on systems (especially after you beat it once or twice) My all time favorite single player FPS (Half Life 2 and it's 2 episodes) I've had a max of 3 installs over 5 years on 2 different PCs and have beaten the series over 3 times. I doubt I'll ever have to reinstall it but maybe once when Microsoft masters Vista and I install that.

Although I don't agree with the DRM, I don't think buying a 360 for this game (or the few other good games not available on PC or PS3) is a valid solution so my original statements still stand.

Instead of buying a 360 for those few core games you can't play on PS3, just upgrade your PC with a $150 video card and $50 worth of memory.

Heres some old news on it.

US, March 14, 2008 - Mass Effect 2, the second in a planned trilogy of sci-fi role-playing games from developer BioWare, will be exclusive to the Xbox 360, but possibly for a short time only, a company spokesman told the British gaming site CVG today.

Electronic Arts bought BioWare in January, prompting speculation that the next two installments in the Mass Effect trilogy would be multiplatform in one form or another.

"I believe we'll be Xbox 360 exclusive for at least a short period of time," BioWare senior manager Matt Atwood told CVG. "We're still working out the details on that, but we've had a great relationship with Microsoft and done very well."

Microsoft recently released the first round of downloadable content for the first Mass Effect, but the company hasn't said much about what form future installments will take on the Xbox 360.

"We have no announcements on future Mass Effect projects at this time," a microsoft spokesman told IGN. "Additional inquiries may be sent to Electronic Arts."

Atwood also said a PC version of Mass Effect 2 is also likely. "We haven't solidified the plans yet but we're headed in the direction where we want to be as close as possible [on PC]," he said.

I dont care if its stays exclusive or not, I just want this game to get all the respect it deserves.

Well over the years when you probably need a new computer, you can always get Mass Effect then, you can even buy it now and wait until you get a Computer capable of playing it.

Here is recent news

Heading to Xbox 360 and PC early in 2010.

mass effect asari - Confirmed: Mass Effect 2 not on PS3

BioWare today officially announced Mass Effect 2, the sequel to the acclaimed sci-fi RPG Mass Effect.

"We're going to surpass the extraordinary gaming experience we brought our fans in Mass Effect by delivering intensified combat and expanded weapon options as well as increased depth of planet exploration, all while delivering a powerful, emotionally engaging story," said Dr. Ray Muzyka, General Manager and CEO, BioWare and General Manager and Vice President, EA. "Mass Effect 2 is shaping up to be an unforgettable RPG-shooter experience, taking players on a non-stop roller-coaster ride filled with stunning plot twists and no-holds-barred action."

In this dark second chapter, Saren's evil army of Geth soldiers has just been defeated, and humans, who are still struggling to make their mark on the galactic stage, are now faced with an even greater peril.

It's also been confirmed that the game is coming to Xbox 360 and PC in early 2010. The press release makes no mention of the PlayStation 3.

So I guess it still could happen, maybe something will drop on it at E3.

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3156670 At the bottom of this article when asked about working on PS3 games the Ceo basically just says..... "stay tuned." I think its highly possible it will come to PS3, but probably not for at least six months to a year after its 360 release. I really don't care if it does or not, though. I'm gonna play it off my 360 anyway cause I wanna play off my old game save from the first one. However, if BioWare starts any new IPs with PS3 support I will definately be getting them for the PS3. And so many people seemed to think BioWare was a first-party dev.......... HA! :P

God, i do hope so.

i'm planning to try mass effect on my PC, but it barely reaches the system requirements. I have COD 4 on my PC, but it looks pretty grainy, so im afraid how mass effect might run.

im hoping that news will come true. hopefully as an announcement at e3.

Right on. Thanks guys, that's a lot of good information. Restores my faith in these boards. I was starting they were all filled with trolls and jerks. Mostly confirmed what I already thought though. I just need to decide whether to build a new PC or buy an Xbox. Kind of a moot point anyway though since I don't have they money to do either right now, so I guess I'll just see what happens with the ME franchise over the next year. Thanks again.
