As stated above, the recent improvement in UK bundle deals has made me think very seriously about getting a PS3 tomorrow. Any general tips or advice would be fantastic guys. I already own a 360, so any comparisons differing features would be great. Just ahandful ofquestions that I can think of right now include:

Is the Sony version of Live any good?

Are there plenty of playable demo's around also?

Is HDMI a lot better picture quality wise than component or VGA?

What can a PS3 do that a 360 can't (feature wise)?

Any killer titles due to arrive any time soon?

Any absolute must have tiles around now?

Do I need a PS3 if I already have a 360?

You get the idea guys, any input would be much apprieciated.

Thanks in advance.

Is the Sony version of Live any good?

still hasn't matured completely but is doing the job just fine and will only get better once Home is release

Are there plenty of playable demo's around also?

yes there are plenty of demos on the PSN which now Heavenly Sword was just added today

Is HDMI a lot better picture quality wise than component or VGA?

HDMI is the top of the line and the best but i have to say that component also does a hell of a job

What can a PS3 do that a 360 can't (feature wise)?

play HD movies without an add on, offer you free online service

Any killer titles due to arrive any time soon?

Warhawk, Haze, UT3, Socom, GT: Prologue, Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Lair

Any absolute must have tiles around now?

Resistance, Motorstorm, R6V, F1 (IMO)

Do I need a PS3 if I already have a 360?

thats a matter of opinion but you absolutely do if you want to play Haze and UT3 soon and if you want MGS 4 next year

You get the idea guys, any input would be much apprieciated.

Thanks in advance.

Yeah what he said...

The PS3 will be better in the long run IMO. Once Halo 3, Bioshock, Mass Effect etc come out, theres not much left on 360 (imo). The PS3 also has future proof technology... and it doesnt break down.

Good post.

One thing that wasn't mentioned is reliability. Your PS3 won't break down on you.

I am 100% satisfied with my PS3. If you want to be impressed, download all the trailers of upcoming games from the PSN. If Home doesn't sell you, one of the games will.

I already own a 360, so any comparisons differing features would be great. Just ahandful ofquestions that I can think of right now include:

Is the Sony version of Live any good?

At the moment no. It doesn't have some of the "friend list" friendly features of xbox live. It doesn't bother me much as I go online to compete against people not make friends or chat or IM people in game. However, you might miss those features. The actual online play I find better on PSN for games with dedicated servers at least. ie Resistance, Motorstorm, Warhawk.

Are there plenty of playable demo's around also?

There are around 20 demos in the store.

Is HDMI a lot better picture quality wise than component or VGA?

Honestly, I can barely tell a difference. Its very slight and you may not even notice it.

What can a PS3 do that a 360 can't (feature wise)?

Store videos, photos and mp3s on the HD. Browse the web. Install linux OS. Play bluray movies. Wifi built in.

Any killer titles due to arrive any time soon?

Lair, Warhawk and Heavenly Sword are all very good titles. I have played HS and WH personally and read very promising previews on Lair. These are the big exclusives for the next 2 months. Oct and Nov is when things really heat up. Look at Gamespot E3 coverage for more.

Any absolute must have tiles around now?

Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Resistance and Star Dust HD

Do I need a PS3 if I already have a 360?

It depends on how much gaming you do. If the 360 satisfied all your gaming needs then no. If you need more variety and find yourself bored with the game selection sometimes then a ps3 might be a good idea for you.

You get the idea guys, any input would be much apprieciated.

I am very satisfied with my ps3 and think its a truly nice piece of hardware.

Thanks in advance.

go watch the MGS4 trailer and live demonstration. that's enough to make you want a ps3 lol
plus its simultaneous world release. since you are UK, you wont get screwed over by the different release dates.
i own a 360 and i was pretty siked when i got my ps3 and right now im just waiting for Lair to come out. right now im playing alot of MGS3, thats another great thing about the ps3. full backwards compatibility.

Is the Sony version of Live any good?

It's alright for now,not as feature-rich as XBOX Live although it's free :)

Are there plenty of playable demo's around also?

Bunch of demos for free - downloadable off of PSN

Is HDMI a lot better picture quality wise than component or VGA?

HDMI is technically the best but like dstyr13 said, component is pretty good too (I'm using component at the moment)

What can a PS3 do that a 360 can't (feature wise)?

What dstryr13 said, but also it has memory card readers for SD/Mini SD, Memory Stick, and Compact Flash, Wi-Fi, + Web browser

Any absolute must have tiles around now?

Resistance: Fall of Man, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Motorstorm, Ninja Gaiden Sigma

Do I need a PS3 if I already have a 360?

Depends on what you like and/or need.

If you have an HD tv with HDMI inputs, you can use the PS3 to upscale DVDs to HD. It makes ur DVDs look a little better but it will never be as good as a Blu-ray or HD-dvd movie. Also Its good to have a Blu-Ray player built in b/c It seems that it will be the next HD video format. Also the 60gb has a built in Wifi (same as laptops) so you don't have to drag an ethernet cable halfway across your house.

No. You see, what that implies is that the games are coming out soon and that if you want to play them you need a PS3. If you were trying to indicate otherwise, then that is some terrible writing.

Also the PS3 version is supporting PC mods which is huge if you know anything about the Unreal community.

Is the Sony version of Live any good?

Never really tried Xbox live (only had one for 1 week...my xbox 360 worked with red ring of death, but I hated seeing it), but I was able to find games in Resistance much like finding games in CS. Downloading is like Xbox Live, everything is categorized so it is easy to find the thing you want. There is also a list for most popular downloads....just in case you are interested.

Are there plenty of playable demo's around also?

Yeah, most of the games have their own demo there, though I don't remember seeing Resistance (Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Heavenly Sword, Armored Core 4).

Is HDMI a lot better picture quality wise than component or VGA?

Well, I can tell you that it is a lot better. But it could also be me switching from my small SDTV to a 40 inch HDTV....

What can a PS3 do that a 360 can't (feature wise)?

Both systems are the same...no Six-Axis doesn't count. BUT PS3's version of Xbox live (PSN) is free. I hate paying monthly...

Any killer titles due to arrive any time soon?

Killer titles are very objective, but Lair (nice graphics, but MAYBE poor gameplay) is coming next month, August 14. I don't think any really really good games are coming out till the Holidays if not next year.

Any absolute must have tiles around now?

Resistance (FPS), MotorStorm (Awesome graphics, Driving) ....I know its not much but PS3 is more reliable than an Xbox 360. I play it over 5 hr (no freeze, no damn RROD -_-) playing PS2 games with upscale to HD for my HDTV (its not any better but normal ps2 on a HDTV is fuzzy).

Do I need a PS3 if I already have a 360?

If you like Japanese RPG, you will need a PS3. Other than that,I don't think anything general will do since both systems will get exclusive killer games for sure. No, Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey and the Music RPG will not win against Final Fantasy 13 series....I hope (Square Enix sucks now...I am still being optimistic).

All in all, you don't need a PS3 if you already have a 360, I recommend buying it now if you think you will be playing it for sure (think of PS3 like a PS2 since they are both really similar, PS2 didn't sell well in the beginning and had no games) because you will also get to get 5 free blu-ray movies for free if you buy it now! (Too bad they give you a list to choose from)

Here's the link about the free blu-rays: http://www.bluraysavings.com/

Thanks a lot to everyone who replied.

One final question though - what 'i' or 'p' does the PS3 run PS2 games at?

I have some "Grade A" advice for you. Make sure you're buying the PS3 because YOU want to and not because everyone or most people here are telling you to get it. That's your money going into that system, so do some research and makesure it's you who's deciding on getting the PS3.

save you money kid. its online service is in it's less then infant stage. you'll only kick yourself. graphics wise, you'll be lucky to see any hardcore graphics on your ps3 for any game. for one the ps3 is too expensive to develop 1080p games for. so, you'l never see that. ps3 has a bunch of stuff that has nothing to do with gaming. kinda like everything Else gaming second.. blu ray. thats a whole another biscuit. for one if you dont live in a big city most video store do not carry blu ray, so, you have to go online to rent them. and you can only rent one at a time. second, if you want to buy them,, there ridiculously priced. and third i would say any blu ray made before 2006 is not blu ray. they just slap the name on the movie. so, you see you'll get a lot of hype and no results. if you already have a 360, you'll only go back to playing that and your ps3 will collect dust.

Wow I want the crystal ball you used to predict/find that stuff. Sure it may be expensive as of right now that doesn't mean it won't be in the future as you do know technology prices drop the more popular and the cheaper it gets to create.

save you money kid. its online service is in it's less then infant stage. you'll only kick yourself. graphics wise, you'll be lucky to see any hardcore graphics on your ps3 for any game. for one the ps3 is too expensive to develop 1080p games for. so, you'l never see that. ps3 has a bunch of stuff that has nothing to do with gaming. kinda like everything Else gaming second.. blu ray. thats a whole another biscuit. for one if you dont live in a big city most video store do not carry blu ray, so, you have to go online to rent them. and you can only rent one at a time. second, if you want to buy them,, there ridiculously priced. and third i would say any blu ray made before 2006 is not blu ray. they just slap the name on the movie. so, you see you'll get a lot of hype and no results. if you already have a 360, you'll only go back to playing that and your ps3 will collect dust.F1sTDaCuffS

Go away trollbot. Dont listen to anything this guy has to say... He started a topic on "why people defend Sony. Their not even an American company" in system wars. I think that says it all.

Wow, thats all I have to say...if you hate the PS3 so much why are you even on this forum the PS3 forum? To enlighten us to your opinion which transcends all information and you link us to your forum it would appear because that is 100% factual and correct. Go back to your shining land of pixies and rainbows of the 360 or system wars forums where your stuff will be more appreciated

Just thought of another question.

Is the PS3 quiet when running?

My 360 makes quite a racket with it's noisy fan.

The ps3 is as quiet as a PS2 slim if you ever heard one. In other words pretty quiet. The 360 fan isn't what makes all that noise BTW. Its the dvd drive. Notice how when your in the dashboard it doesn't make much noise. Only when you start up a disk game does it start to sound like a vaccum cleaner.

Yeah what he said...

The PS3 will be better in the long run IMO. Once Halo 3, Bioshock, Mass Effect etc come out, theres not much left on 360 (imo). The PS3 also has future proof technology... and it doesnt break down.

I couldnt have said it better myself.
