Following the simple advice from the above posters will help you a lot, but if you're still worried, you'll be covered for a year under the manufacturer's warranty. After that, it's very cheap to insure your console online.
[QUOTE="3aNkabot"]I still have my launch ps3 running like a champ, just keep it well ventilated and don't block the vents .jimm895Same here and my system has been on 24/7 for most of the time I have owned it. Just follow your advice and everything should be fine for anyone. how old is your PS3?
I think the incidence rate of the YLOD is directly related to heat and ventilation issues. I have my PS3 on a glass coffee table (a poor conductor of heat) in a well ventilated spot. I also wipe down the dust from around the PS3. I haven't had any problems. I think its no wondewr when people get the YLOD when they stick their PS3 inside an enclosed space, i.e. a wooden cabinet, its not only poorly ventilated but also it would get very hot. Just my 2 cents.
Some are just faulty systems like mine. I cleaned it everytime before i played, didnt play long (3hours tops), and well ventilated but i still ended up getting it. Sometimes it is the owner and sometimes it isnt. Main thing is just to take good care of it and the risk wont be very high of getting it.ez_moneymakeraw.. can i know what model and how old is your ps3?.. :(
Just be safe and be smart, I've been making the mistake of playing my PS3 for like 10 hours at a time and that's definitely not smart.
Don't worry to much mate. YLOD doesn't happen often. Just keep the PS3 in a well ventilated located and keep it clean. The problem is that no one knows what causes it, at least not any specifics. But it doesn't happen often. I've had my 60gig since it launched in Australia and I've only had a problem with it once - which was when I was playing the Uncharted 1 demo and it froze randomly. All good since then. Long LONG time ago. =)Well she just got a PS3 and we heard about the yellow light of death. Just wondering how likly this is to happen and what we could do if it does?

The guy at gamespot told me the intercooler was not necessary, he said sony ran one in a sauna for three days and it was fine. Mine died (80gb) and I played it for long hours sometimes. It shouldn't die after 2 years because you play it for 6-7 hours at a time, what other piece of electronics dies if you use it too much?My 60gb PS3 I've had since Oct of 2007 still works fine. The intercooler I got for it seems to help a lot.

I've heard of several 60 gigs going bad, but I've only heard of one or two 80s going bad. and I'm sure that thte Slims will be as reliable as the 80s.

I don't know why people are saying it's a certain model, I've had my 60g since the NA launch...."0'' problems to report.

Well unless you put it in a cramped space with no room and you're one of the 0.3% of the unlucky ones nothing to worry about.
It's not prevalent enough for you to worry about it ... I've pretty much only heard it regarding to 60gb systems. I have one, my PS2 is broken, I still love to play PS2 games, I've had my PS3 since January of 2007, and I'm not worried. :P
I've heard of more problems being caused than fixed by those things ... I say it's a waste of money. My 60gb PS3 I've had since Oct of 2007 still works fine. The intercooler I got for it seems to help a lot.

I honestly don't think it has much to do with how often or how much you play, but how you take care of it otherwise.Just be safe and be smart, I've been making the mistake of playing my PS3 for like 10 hours at a time and that's definitely not smart.

As long as she doesn't miss her period than you have nothing to worry about.
