Not quite sure what the the problem was but I kept getting that and it would sometimes work normally for a while then disconnect after a few minutes saying it was denied. Anyway I switched from wired on my PS3 to wireless and now it works great

Here is one way to do it.  On your PC name your share the same name as your PS3 machine name.

1) Launch Windows Media Player 11
Right Click the top bar and select Tools --> Options -> Select Library tab --> Configure Sharing -> Highlight Unknown Device and select Settings -> Enter Name of your PS3 in the box under "Share Media As" and save changes.

What media server are you using and have you allowed PS3 full access to it through the media server ( and reset PS3 + the media server afterwards )

I use WMP11. When I go to Configure Sharing it doesn't see any Unknown Device or PS3, it just says Terrisa-PC and that's what it says on my PS3 too. I enable sharing on it but I still can't access it.

I have a question.  I just established the sharing.  Is there a way to save the media files to the PS3 HDD this way or does this just stream them?

how do I get my external hard drive to be able to be seen on PS3. I think I have it under the FAT format but noew PS3 is telling me "Access to media service is not allowed". It is possible that the system name for this PS3 system, XXXXX has not been registered
